PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4 TRAILER
Paranormal activity 4 is a sequel of first film ‘paranormal activity’ which
features paranormal occurrences appearing in a young couples house.
Editing
Title screens are used throughout the paranormal activity trailer to create a link between the paranormal activity sequels and create a sense of suspense.
Transitions are used through out the clip showing a untuned television or camera effect, this makes the ‘home footage’ style film seem more realistic. Slow paced editing is also used in this scene to add tension and suspense.
Night vision style of the audience reaction is shown in-between the footage of the film. The night vision effect makes the film appear spooky.
Camerawork Panning shot- The shot is panned across the room to reveal the overturned furniture, the pan turns left to right to show the whole room highlighting that a paranormal event has occurred.
Overhead shot used to look down on the scattered room, the high angle shot makes the room seem vulnerable , symbolizing a powerful presence in the house .
Paranormal activity is a low budget horror film filmed using handheld cameras to create a ‘found footage’ style. Using a found footage style and handheld cameras made the first paranormal activity a low budget film costing only $15,000 to produce.
An establishing shot is used to show the setting in the room, the shot is focused on the door, establishing that something ‘spooky’ is about to happen.
The camera angle is tilted slightly to create a ‘distorted’ and confused effect on the audience, the tilted camera angle makes shot type appear more ‘spooky’ and adds suspense to the ‘paranormal activity’.
Mise-en-sceneParanormal activity is set in a typical home environment gaining fear of the viewers as it makes the experience more ‘lifelike’.
Scattered furniture are used as props to make the setting seem disturbed and ‘paranormal’. The composition of the scene is scattered, typical of a horror film.
Sound Ambient sound- Screams of the audience
are heard during the trailer to show the audience reaction.
Sound effects– Sound effects such as furniture moving, doors slamming and creaking noises are heard to create a feeling of ‘suspicious activity’ this makes the trailer appear more supernatural and intises people into watching the film. There is no diegetic music used in this trailer, fitting in with the realistic home footage style.
