ProgramDescriptionThisapproximateone-yeardegreeprogrampreparesstudentstoenterthedual-roleprofessionofparamedic/firefighter,whichisamodelutilizedbymanymunicipalitieslocally,out-state,andacrossthecountry.Theprogramwillprepareindividualstorecognize,assess,manage,andtreatmedicalandtraumaemergencies,withafocusonemergencysurgicalprocedures;equipmentoperationandmaintenance;patientstabilization,monitoring,andcare;drugadministration;identificationandpreliminarydiagnosisofdiseasesandinjuries;communicationandcomputeroperations;basicanatomy,physiology,pathology,toxicology;andprofessionalstandardsandregulation.Afocusonthetheoryandpracticeoffiresandfirefightingwillincludeinstructioninfirechemistryandphysics;combustiblematerials;computerscience;buildingconstruction,firecodesandrelatedlaws,firehydraulics;firecommand;fireprevention/inspection;fireprotectionsystems;firesuppressionsystems;fire/arsoninvestigation;occupationalsafety;communications;andequipmentoperation.CenturyCollegeEMSProgramsworkwithmanyhealthcarepartnersinandaroundtheGreaterTwinCitiesRegion,andbeyond.Throughourindustrypartners,CenturyCollegeparamedicfirecandidateswillfindopportunitiestoparticipateinmanyinnovativeresearchinitiatives,andpracticestate-of-the-artstandardsinEMSpatientcare.ThisprogrammeetsorexceedstheU.S.DepartmentofTransportation2010NationalEMSEducationStandards.TheCenturyCollegeEMSProgramhasbeenaccreditedbytheCommitteeonAccreditationofAlliedHealthEducationPrograms,(CAAHEP),since1987.Uponsuccessfulcompletionoftheprogram,graduateswillbeeligibletotaketheNationalRegistryParamediccertificationexam.ProgramAdmissionRequirementsDocumentationofthefollowinglistofitemsmustbeonfilebeforeyouwillreceiveprogramacceptance.
