PARADISESUMMITMIAMIatEmersonDorschisagroupartexhibitionandsiteforParadiseLibrarywheretheParadisegroupandguestsgathertoexploreideas.FortheMiamiaudience,thegroupcuratedthelibrarybyflaggingreferencesfromtheessay FacingNecrophiliaor“BotoxEthics” byartistandtheorist,KatherineBehar. Participantsandaudiencesactivatethiscollectionwhentheyusethespaceasaresearchfacilityandforprivatetopicaldiscussions. Paradiselibraryisconstantlyexpandingbasedonnewconversations.Librarianandphilosophyscholar,LoriKelly,inKeyWest,hostedthefirstiterationofParadiseSummitinApril2018.
AtParadiseLibrary,usersareallowedtowriteinthemargins.ThistracesbacktoKelly’sexperienceasalibrarianatPAMM.Shewasgatheringandtakinginventoryofallthebooksthatcuratorshadpurchasedandusedforresearchingtheirexhibitionsforthepastdecadeormore.Sheobservedhowmuchinsightwasthereinthe
marginswherecuratorshadle�notes.Readingthemwasliketappingintotheirindividualmindsandifviewedtogethergaveintimateaccesstothebrainoftheinstitutionasacollective.
Oneofthefoundersofthegroup,FeleciaChizukoCarlislewrites,“Asacollective,wecommunicate,restore,fortifyandproduce“knowing”outsideanyinstitution,inthemargins.TheconceptofmarginalityasitisplayedoutinsocietyisfoundationaltoourpurposeinthinkingaboutParadise–aplaceoutsidethecenter,awayfromdailylife–aplacetoescapewhere“real”thingshappen.“Paradise”absolutelyhasusevalue.”
