INNOVATIONAWARD
2006
All good things come from above
Its diameter is 109-times that of the earth, and its outside temperature is 6,000 °C.
It generates an output of 370 quadrillion watts and continuously sends this energy,
equivalent to 100 million nuclear power plants, to the earth. And theres no danger
of this stopping for the next 5 billion years.
Is there any other source of energy apart from the sun which, in contrast with
fossil fuels, is safe and available in an unlimited supply? Is there any other form
of heat energy which is available at no charge and friendly to the environment i.e.
CO2-free?
And from Paradigma
Paradigma solar heating systems provide the best way of effectively using solar
energy for water heating and heating support inside your own 4 walls.
As one of the leading suppliers of ecological heating systems in Europe, Paradigma
has been developing heating systems with integrated solar collectors since the
late 80.
Paradigma solar heating systems such as the AquaSystem awarded with the
Bundespreis 2006 (German Federal Award) are now
amongst the most innovative. These systems also
feature some of the highest output yields.
Welcome to the sunny side.
2
Ideal:
the sun supplies free
energy to your home.
Join in,
harvest the sun,
save energy!
Optimal:
solar energy for people
and nature.
Ideal for the climate
The installed base of solar heating systems has already saved roughly 70 million litres
of heating oil* – this corresponds to more than 2,300 full road tankers. Even better for
the environment and climate: 190,000 tons of harmful CO2 are avoided in the first
place.
And for the heating boiler
The installation of a Paradigma solar heating system also significantly extends the life
of your boiler. This means the heating boiler hardly has to be switched on to heat water
during the transitional periods and in summer. All this is done by your solar system.
Paradigma solar heating
systems have an appea-
ling look. The attractive
evacuated tube collec-
tors can be adapted to
any architecture.
3
* applies to over 66,000 CPC collector modules which Paradigma sold and installed by the end of 2006.
The choice of collector is decisive.
4
Enhances your roof
Users of Paradigma solar heating systems Made in Germany can be seen from far
away. In an age when everyone is talking about climate change, these collector
modules with up to 21 evacuated tubes are visible proof of property owners acting in
an environmentally conscious manner to make sparing use of the available resources.
Converting light to heat
Paradigma evacuated tube collectors convert solar rays to heat energy using a
principle which is both simple and sophisticated.
Each collector module is equipped with a row of evacuated tubes that use a special
absorber layer to convert sunlight to heat. Each tube functions like a thermos flask
by storing heat for longer periods and not emitting it. This becomes noticeable when
touching the tubes on a connected collector. The outer tube shell is cold. The inside is
hot.
In order to ensure that light also reaches the rear of the evacuated tubes, a highly
reflective CPC-reflector (Compound Parabolic Concentrator) directs the solar rays
shining between the tubes to those sides not directly exposed to light. The reflector
also ensures that the light strikes the absorber at an optimum angle (for further
details, see page 18).
Their clever design means
that CPC evacuated tube
collectors produce some
of the highest output
yields particularly during
transitional periods.
This guarantees high yields...
... even when there is little sunshine. CPC evacuated tube collectors output high
energy yields over the whole year, even during unfavourable weather conditions such
as transitional periods, during the winter or when the skies are cloudy.
Little space required ...
... particularly during poor weather conditions. At a solar irradiation level of 400 W
per m2, an outside temperature of 10 °C and a flow temperature of 60 °C , the CPC
evacuated tube collector produces 40 % higher energy yields than the best flat plate
collectors available today. At 0 °C, the energy yield of the CPC evacuated tube
collector is up to 5.4 times higher than an average flat plate collector. This means that
when using average flat plate collectors, 5.4 times the collector surface area would
be needed to produce the same amount of energy.

The Aqua solar heating system
Assuming that a specialized installer could easily connect a solar heating system to
your existing heating installation and components such as the hot water tank could
be re-used‚ wouldn´t you be interested in immediately upgrading your heating system
to environmentally-friendly solar energy?
The patented Aqua solar heating system from Paradigma is one of the most innova-
tive systems around. What makes it special: Pure water, instead of the usual antifre-
eze mixture, transports heat from the solar collector to the hot water storage tank.
This means that in most cases you do not need to replace your storage tank in order
to enjoy solar-heated water or support your heating with solar energy. In a nutshell:
the sun can come, the tank can stay.
Award-winning
Not only has the Aqua solar heating system from Paradigma been installed almost
20,000-times in Europe, it was also awarded the Bundespreis 2006 (German Federal
Award) for outstanding innovative craftsmanship.
One of the most innovativesystems ever.

Simple to connect
The AquaSystem is particularly suited to allow simple connection to existing heating
installations. Its versatility also comes to the fore in new installations. The collector
functions as a second independent heating boiler to reduce oil, gas or wood pellet
usage. The minimum flow temperature of 60 °C means that solar-heated water is
directly available once it has filled the top layer of the tank.
Long-life design
The AquaSystem is easier to maintain than conventional solar heating systems in
which the antifreeze-water mixture has to be regularly replaced. Furthermore the
AquaSystem is equipped with an automated functional check. Errors are signalled by
an acoustic alarm. This will also make you feel good – a life-long guarantee against
frost damage.*

KG (availablefrom your Paradigma system partner).
The solar controller ensures
optimum interaction between
individual components.The solar station keeps
the circuit moving.
Aqua solar heating systems include everything you need
When compared to conventional solar heating systems, an AquaSystem consists of
a manageable amount of individual components. All of these are synchronised to
provide optimum compatibility. Ultimately the goal is to have extremely satisfied and
contented customers.
Collector including station and controller
It all starts with the solar collector on your AquaSystem. Every solar ray is collected,
even the weak ones. This light is converted to heat which is transferred to the water
flowing through the collector tubes.
The solar station then pumps this solar-heated water to the hot water storage tank,
where the heat can be extracted immediately and directly. The solar station also
pumps cold water back to the collector to close the circuit. The solar controller is res-
ponsible for energy management in the solar circuit. It indicates the energy yields
whilst ensuring trouble-free and safe operation.
Few components, many advantages.
8
The solar collector
converts light to heat.
The tank stores the
solar-heated water.
Storage tanks also available
Regardless of whether you use your AquaSystem to produce solar-heated hot water
or provide additional solar heating support – a wide range of high-performance
storage tanks is available to meet specific requirements.
From solar storage tanks to the rapid heating of drinking water, combined storage
tanks with integrated hot water stainless steel tanks and fresh water storage tanks for
water heating and partial solar heating – all Paradigma tanks provide a high degree
of comfort and instant hot water as soon as it is supplied.
Existing tanks can also be reused. This is what makes Aqua solar heating systems
special: they can simply be connected to existing heating systems.

Hungry for the sun
If your existing tank is too small or badly insulated, or if it cannot be integrated
into the AquaSystem for other reasons, then the Aqua solar storage tank is the right
choice in pure water heating applications.
Hot water, fast
The Aqua solar storage tank from Paradigma is a vertical floorstanding tank for
drinking water and water heater. By connecting the solar energy system to the top of
the Aqua solar tank, hot water is available much quicker than in conventional solar
storage tanks, which use a water-antifreeze mixture as the heat transfer medium and
feed the solar heat through a heat exchanger below.
The Aqua solar storage tank from Paradigma is easy to integrate in the heating
installation. It uses a bare-tube heat exchanger to which the solar energy system and
Paradigma condensing gas boiler or wood pellet boiler – or an existing boiler – are
connected.

CPC/TITAN AquaPackage Deals
Do you want to use solar energy to heat the water in your home and provide partial
solar heating – then the CPC/TITAN AquaPackage Deals are the right ones for you.
In summer, the CPC/TITAN AquaPackage Deals almost completely relieve the load on
the existing boiler. During the transitionary months, solar energy is used to support
the heating. And even in the depths of winter, a large proportion of the drinking
water is solar-heated. The package includes a CPC Star azzurro evacuated tube
collector that feeds hot water above 60 °C into the combined storage tank. It there-
fore acts as a second boiler of equal importance.
In order to further minimise the power consumption of your AquaPackage Deals, the
solar pump is only switched on if a worthwhile amount of solar heat is stored in the
collector. This interval operation can result in large temperature differences between
the flow and return and helps minimise pipe losses.

Combined storage tank TITAN Aqua
The TITAN Aqua is the integrated storage tank solution used in the CPC/TITAN
AquaPackage Deals. The stored solar energy can be used for solar water heating as
well as partial solar heating. The integrated heating buffer significantly reduces
the frequency of boiler switch-on operations. This extends the life of the boiler and
reduces harmful emissions.
Peak withdrawal output
The TITAN Aqua has an integrated hot water stainless steel tank, available in three
sizes up to 230 litres. It has an impressive hot water peak withdrawal output, despi-
te its relatively low drinking water capacity.
The TITAN Aqua is a vertical floorstanding steel tank with a quality certificate. Its
excellent thermal insulation is made from CFC-free polystyrene foam. It is suited to
heating water storage for heating systems with flow temperatures of up to 90 °C,
heating water-side operating overpressures of up to 3 bar and hot water-side ope-
rating pressures of up to 8 bar.

The OPTIMA Aqua heating buffer tank is an integral part of the AquaPackage Deals
CPC/OPTIMA . Its strength: Water is only heated on demand. The heated water is
therefore of a high hygienic quality. Instead of water which has been stored in a tank,
you will always have “fresh” hot water.
Hot water comfort
As water is being used, the stratification technology ensures the controlled stratified
discharging of the storage tank. More than double the storage tank heat is used to
heat the water than without this control technology. The heat flowing into the tank is
available for use after a brief charging period.
No heat escapes into the cellar room thanks to the use of CFC-free polystyrene foam,
reflective coatings and siphoned storage tank connections; consequently less
reheating is required and more hot water is available.
