PARACHUTE PROJECTBY: Jacob Rose

UNDERSTAND First I looked at our specified rubric to

understand what I was required to do. Next, I looked at the givenformula to predictthe terminal velocity

EXPLORE Then I explored different websites to

understand more about parachutes. I learned that the drag of the parachutes

must slow the parachute down enough so that the terminal velocity is slow enough that the egg won’t break.

DEFINE I used the equation, to

calculate terminal velocity. Our parachute had to be under 200

grams. Finally, the parachute had to be packed

into a compartment before deploying, which would allow it to deploy once a certain velocity had been reached.

Ideate- I used paper to make a funnel shaped

container to hold the parachute- The funnel was then taped to the probe- The parachute was made out of pieces of

wax paper taped together-Then I made a smaller parachute to help

pull out the main parachute from the funnel

- The smaller parachute was then tied to the larger one

Ideate

Prototype

Refine The container was too small for the

parachute, meaning it was packed too tightly to let air force the parachute out of the container.

So I added some space to allow more room for the parachute so it could get out easier.
