NARRATIVE TREATMENT
Space Cat, a cunning feline space explorer, is enjoying a ball of yarn in the hull of her
space ship. The Narrator, an omnipresent voice, alerts her to an intergalactic
emergency; the evil Sullivan is creating black holes all over the universe. She must
navigate a safe route around them and stop Sullivan as fast as possible.
Meanwhile, The Narrator introduces Sullivan, a zany and moustachioed old canine,
who is busy hatching his latest scheme; sapping stars of their energy in order to power
his latest doomsday device.
On her journey, Space Cat gets distracted and loses control of her ship. The Narrator
alerts her, but the ship has already been pulled into the outer event horizon of a nearby
black hole. She explains that she can still manoeuvre her way out so long as she
doesn’t get pulled into the inner event horizon. After some struggling, she manages to
break free.
As she approaches Sullivan’s ship, she notices a giant hose sucking the energy out of
a star and explains that when a star runs out of energy, it implodes and becomes a
black hole. Before her eyes, the star implodes and creates another black hole.
Sullivan spots Space Cat’s ship getting closer on his radar. He commands his ship to
activate the laser defence system. A laser light beams in through a side window of
Space Cat’s ship and has her bolting around her ship in pursuit. Suddenly the light
disappears. She looks out the window and sees the light from the laser being pulled
into a black hole.
Sullivan starts an excited monologue when The Narrator alerts him to Space Cat
standing right behind him. She demands to know about the black holes. He states that
he has no idea about any black holes, and denies that the glowing machine on the
back of his ship is a doomsday device. He produces a cardboard box in the far corner.
Space Cat is compelled to go sit in it, and it folds closed, trapping her. She panics, but
only for a moment as she whips out a remote control. A small canon from her ship
shoots a tennis ball towards Sullivan’s ship. Sullivan is immediately distracted by thetennis ball flying past his window, and he bolts out into space to chase it. Space Cat
breaks free and steers the ship into a black hole, jumping out just in time.
She explains to The Narrator that although she can’t destroy black holes, she doesn’t
think they’ll have to worry about Sullivan for quite some time. They laugh as they
watch Sullivan chase the tennis ball through space.

MOOD BOARD
Paper Polygon wanted a loving simple style or Space Cat that is appealing and non threatening toour audience o 5 to 12 year olds taking similar styles rom artists like Rebecca Sugar’s Steven
Universe and Natasha Allegri’s Bee and Puppycat. We wanted to achieve a sof cute eel to ourworld and characters to urther appeal to our audience. We looked at art by Jim Worthy to gaininsight into some acial expressions we wanted to achieve. Also reerencing Invader Zim toremember how great zany evil characters, we don’t want our audience to take too seriously, shouldact.
