Paper Cup Improvement Project

IntroductionHummers®, iPods®, cell phones, clothes, and video games are just a few products that are familiar to most people. These products are all very popular because of their ability to entertain the user. iPhones for example, are compact and easily accessible. The different functions of these products and their designs cause people to buy them. Buyers are also more attracted to certain brands because of their logo or symbol. For example, people are attracted to certain high end brands such as Gucci or Chanel because those are typical brands viewed as a prestigious status symbol or fashion accessory. The way these products are marketed also plays a big role on whether or not you would buy the product. Design plays a vital role in the creation and marketing of any product. If the product is designed or marketed in a way that is appealing to the public eye, more people would be interested in buying the actual product. For example, some different marketing techniques to help make products stand out are different deals or rewards for buying the product. Some deals that we could use is buy this amount of cups and get another cup free. In conclusion, using all this information should help us design a new coffee cup that will help increase sales.

Changes and Enhancements 1) The cardboard slip prevents you from burning your hand and also prevents it from

freezing2) The design will help make our brand stand out and help make it sell more than other

brands.3) The lid makes it so that you don’t spill your drink, and the opening lets you drink from

the cup.4) Name tag on the coffee cup is just another little addition to the cup to make it better. 5) A stopper is something to put in the opening of the coffee cup to not accidentally make it

spill.6) Themes based on holidays will be used in order to make our cups different and more

attractive. It will attract customers and make them have something to look forward to. 7) The logo is important because it differentiates ourselves from other products.8) Rewards for buying the cup will be used as deals so customers are persuaded to buy more

cups. An example of this is buy this amount of cups to get another one free. 9) An insulated cup will also be used to get rid of the heat of the cup and not allow our

customer to get burned.

You have to consider the functionality of the product, whether the design should be improved upon, the cost of the product, convenience for the consumer, and any limitations that might occur.

It is important to document the brainstorming process so you can have all your ideas organized and that during brainstorming you might come up with the “billion dollar idea.”

3. What is the purpose of sketching your ideas?

It's important to sketch your ideas so you can get a general idea of the design of the product and how practical the design is for the consumer.

The group speaker, explained our product's functions and conveniences to the audience and remained positive about the product.
