Hiking

Complimentary hiking maps are available at various outlets throughout the village.

Page 17: Panorama Mountain Village Summer Guide

Panorama Mountain Village is surrounded by some of the most rugged mountain terrain in North America. The alpine meadows, forests and valleys are frequented by wildlife, including bear and cougar. For your safety and that of the animals, here are a couple of hints for you:

• Never hike or mountain bike alone! Travel in groups of 3 to 4 people when venturing away from the village. Bears and cougars tend to avoid human-contact, so make noise (wear bells, talk or sing) to let them know that you are in the area.

• Please use our bear proof garbage bins. Leaving garbage in the open attracts animals looking for an easy meal and will lead to them visiting again!

If you see a bear or cougar… • Remain calm; don’t panic.

• Bring children and pets to your side.

• Never approach the animal and do not run from it.

• Warn others of the animal’s presence, without yelling.

If you’re on the mountain, report the sighting and location to a bike park patroller or lift operator.

If you are in the village, call Central Check-In by dialing 0 from any phone in the resort, or use your cell and dial 250.42.41 extension 0.
