National Level Workshop & Challenge on “INTERNET OF THINGS”

Participants During IOT workshop

Department of ECE & EEE in association with IEEE-SB, IEEE Communication Society,

Wingfotech Excellence & IIT- Madras organized National Level Workshop & Challenge on

“INTERNET OF THINGS” during 20th

& 21st February 2016. The workshop focused on the

Introduction to IoT , Needs and Scope of IoT. Practical sessions were conducted on Arduino basics

and on interfacing sensors with Arduino. There were about 57 participants who felt it extremely

beneficial and gained knowledge from the workshop on the first day

In the second day of the workshop a contest was held and the winners of the contest will have the

opportunity to Chemclave 2016, Utkraanti event to be held at IIT Madras.

Welcomed the gathering. Charts were displayed and explained by the students. Mr. A.Ramesh of

Second Year ECE won the first prize.

Model making event

Mr. C.Sakthi Kumar, Director Panimalar Institute of technology inspected the Models

PIT- IEEE SB, WIE, SP, RAS & Communication Society, in association with department of ECE

& EEE Organized the Model making event on 07th

March 2016. Best Three Models were selected

for the final round. Models were displayed and explained by the students. Mr. C.Sakthi Kumar,

Director Panimalar Institute of technology inspected the Models. During his interaction with

Students he motivated the students to implement the models in real time. Models Smart City a

model made by Indira E ,Priya Tharsshini S, ShamiSeles.M, Shraddha Kamath , Niveda B of Third

year ECE won the first prize.

Essay Writing Contest

PIT- IEEE SB , WIE, SP, RAS & Communication Society, in association with department of ECE

& EEE Organized the Student Essay Contest on the theme "Harnessing the Power of ICT for our

New Initiatives". Several papers were received and scrutinized based on the originality and

innovative ideas proposed. ICT for Digital India an essay written byMr. YogeshGudi of Second

Year ECE won the first prize.


Guest Lecture on Women Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurs

Sree.Vishnupriya.K ,Regional Program Executive from south east ENACTUS delivers the Lecture

PIT- IEEE SB & WIE in association with department of ECE organized a Guest Lecture on

Women Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurs on 09th

March 2016. Sree.Vishnupriya.K ,Regional

Program Executive from south east “ENACTUS”,an international non-profit organization

delivered the lecture. Session started with the factors that affect any startup, where she throwed

limelight on the social stigma, an important factor which influence woman venturing into business.

By this, she provided us the various ways by which an women can break this social stigma. She

also gave us several pragmatic approaches by which women can overcome any arduous situations.

She also distinguished how an educated woman differ from the uneducated women through an

example. She explained us the project which she undertook with the help of the women in

Rameswaram which became a great hit. On the whole, her seminar manipulated some changes in

each and every woman, which would help them to take a great leap in the near future.

Guest Lecture on Emerging Trends in VLSI Signal Processing

PIT- IEEE SB, WIE & Signal Processing Society in association with department of ECE organized

a Guest Lecture on Emerging Trends in VLSI Signal Processing on 10th

March 2016.Mr.

SenthilArunachalam, Director – Automotive Business Unit, Jasmin Infotech Pvt. Ltd., Chennai

delivered the Lecture. During his talk he highlighted the Importance of signal processing in our

Day today Life. He introduced the students with basics of Signal Processing with Live examples

which was very useful for the students and that inculcated an interest among the students towards

signal processing. And also he created the awareness about Various Job Opportunity that is

available in this field. The session concluded with the Demo session on Audio Compression.

March, 2016. Ms. Shami Seles WIE Chair

Welcomed the gathering. Ms. Shafeeka Fathima Vice Chair WIE delivered the annual report and

explained the various events that are organized under WIE and its benefits. Dr.M.P.Chitra HOD,

ECE delivered the presidential address, during her speech she emphasized on Women

empowerment & role of women in developing nations. The event was followed by a Talk on

women empowerment by Ms. Jyotshna, Assistant Professor ECE. During her speech she

emphasized about the importance of women education in present era. It was then followed by few

events like Quiz, Extempore &Connexions in which students participated actively. Mementos were

given to all the faculty. The prize was distributed to the winner at the end of the session followed

by the vote of thanks given by Ms. ShamiSeles.M.

ECE organized a guest lecture on “EMBEDDED SYSYEM” which was delivered by Dr. Jey

Veerasamy, Director, Center for Computer Science Education & Outreach, The University of

Texas, Dallas on 14th

March 2016. Ms.Indira Vice chairman IEEE welcomed the gathering.

Dr.Jey Veerasamy gave a brief introduction about what an embedded system is and what are its

various application in real time. During his thought provoking lecture he showed some real time

application which captured student‟s interest towards the domain. He also emphasized on various

fact about embedded system and impact of it in present scenario which drew keen interest of

students. He also talked on “Life as Software Engineer” spoke on the differences in the software

projects before and now. He also highlighted on the need for continuous learning, soft skills, time

management skills current skill set and the latest buzz in the software industry including

distributed computing, Big Data, Machine Learning and Open Source Software. The speech was

interlude with interesting analogies.SBchair Mr.K.Vinoth delivered the vote of thanks.

PIT-IEE-SB,WIE& IEEE RAS society in association with department of ECE conducted a guest

lecture for second & third year ECE students on “Enjoyable Introduction to Coding” which was

delivered by Dr.JeyVeerasamy, Director, Center for Computer Science Education & Outreach, The

University of Texas, Dallas, USA. on 14th

Welcomed the gathering. Dr.Jey Veerasamy introduced the students to the world of coding and

explained how one can take it as a child play rather than a tedious task. He explained how to code

with a prototype model which raised the student interest. He also talked on “Life as Software

Engineer” spoke on the differences in the software projects before and now. He also highlighted on

buzz in the software industry including distributed computing, Big Data, Machine Learning and

PIT-IEE-SB, WIE & E-CELLin association with department of ECE organized a Guest Lecture on

Leadership Quality.Mr.S Varadarajan, Chief Empowerment Officer & Mentor, V empower

Academy, Chennai delivered the speech on Importance of leadership skill on 16th

March 2016. In

his talk he highlighted the importance of leadership skill in today‟s scenario. He elaborated on the


different set skill and how a person can inculcate all this quality in his day today life to become a

disciplined leader. Students found his speech highly beneficial.

Guest Lecture on Skill Development

PIT-IEE-SB, WIE & E-CELLin association with department of ECE organized a Guest Lecture

onSkill Development. Mr. Paul Baskaran, Competent Communicator and Competent Leader with

Toastmasters International, USA, Chennai was invited to deliver the lecture on 16th

March 2016.

During his lecture he gave a brief introduction on the importance of communication skill in one‟s

day today life. He also emphasized on the need of grammatical skills and importance of voice

modulation and pause in speaking. He encouraged the student to overcome the fear of public

speaking, therefore conducting table topics on the spot. Students were highly benefited.

PIT-IEE-SB, WIE & E-CELL in association with department of ECE organized a Guest Lecture

on Public Speaking. Importance of public talking was delivered E Sathyanarayanan Software

Engineer, MphasisPvtLtd , Chennai on 16.03.2016. He emphasized on the importance of public

talking and how it will be helpful in the corporate as well as public platform. His speech was very

motivational and student found it very fruitful.


IEEE Outreach Programme

IEEE Outreach Programmeevents at Sri.R.M.JainVidhyashram.

Department of ECE, PIT IEEE SB organized an IEEE Outreach Programmeevents at

Sri.R.M.JainVidhyashram. This is an educational outreach program that promotes theinvolvement

of IEEE members with local high schoolin order to expose the school students to the graduation

and to get the exposure of IEEE and its subsidiaries.

The session has been conducted for three hours and consists of the vents.

10.00-10.30 : Facilitation and Introduction

10.30-11.00 : Quiz

11.00-12.00 : Talk about latest technological development

(Smart house with video presentation),

Robotics Session.

12.00-01.00 : Pursuing engineering, Toast Master Session.

(Highly interactive session)

The session started with the introduction of IEEE & its benefits to the world by Mr.KVinoth. Quiz

and Robotics events conducted by Mr.Ponvannan and Mr. Aravind.The introduction of Internet of

Things (IoT) is explained through Home Automation by Mr.Jayaram and Mr.Kalyan respectively.

The entire session is coordinated and executed to its best by all the IEEE members. Mr. Vishal,

Mr.Pramod Jacob John, Mr. Sai saran, Mr. Sundarji, Mr.naveen coordinated the events and

arranged particulars for the events.The students participated enthusiastically throughout the

session.


Seminar on How to crack UPSC & Competitive Exams

IEEE Young Professionals &PIT - IEEE SB in association with department of ECE organized a

Seminar on How to crack UPSC & Competitive Exams on 21st March 2016. Mr. M.Arun, IEEE SB

Counselor Delivered the seminar. During his talk he motivated all the students to write UPSC &

TNPSC exams. He discussed in brief about all the UPSC & Competitive exams available with the

procedure to apply, eligibility criteria and benefits of it if selected. He also quoted for the

competitive exams the concept of success is Time Management, Correct way to study and tackling

failure. He motivated students to make decision about which career to follow and to give their 100

percent to their chosen careers. He also highlighted the difference between textbook -oriented

study and understanding of a subject. He suggested some useful links, books and resource

materials available. The event conclude with the vote of thanks by Mr.S.Ganesh Associate

Professor ECE.

Seminar on Molecular Communication

Mr.S.Ganesh Associate Professor ECE deliveres the talk.

PIT - IEEE SB & Communication Society in association with department of ECE organized the

seminar on Molecular communications on 22nd

March 2016 for ECE students. Mr.S.Ganesh

Associate Professor ECE delivered the talk. The session started with the Brief Introduction of

IEEE & its benefits to the participants. He motivated the students to take part in IEEE events like

IEEE Extreme, IEEE SPF, Student Paper Contest, etc., Mr.S.Ganesh then introduced concept of

Molecular Communication to the participants. He outlined the significance Molecular

communication in variety of applications such as biomedical, military, and environmental areas.

He also elaborated how it is used in drug delivery system (DDS), bio-hybrid implants, and lab-on-

a-chip (LoC) systems. Mr. M.Arun SB counselor delivered the vote of thanks.

Quiz Contest

Department of ECE in association with IEEE SB & WIE organized the Quiz contest on 12.04.2016

for bringing in the talent of students. Questions focused on current affairs & Indian Politics.

Guest Lecture on Expectations of IT Industries from Young Engineers

IEEE Young Professionals & PIT - IEEE SB in association with PIT Alumni Association, CDC

organized a Guest Lecture on Expectations of IT Industries from Young Engineers on 13.04.2016.

Dr.Joshi, HOD IT delivered the welcome address. Dr.T.Jayanthy Principal PIT Delivered the

presidential address and felicated the chief guest.Mr.Jeeva Mahendran, Senior Software

Developer, Wipro & Founder of a Start Up, Chennai Our Alumni from IT department was invited

as a guest speaker. During his talk he shared about his past experiences in college. He insisted

students to use library to the maximum. He suggested students to learn Machine Learning, Cloud

Computing and Big Data Analytics were current projects are going on.

Project contest was conducted by department of ECE in association with IEEE –SB & its Societies

for the second year students to bring out the potential from students on 14.04.2016.

Seminar on Technological Advancement in the field of Communication

PIT - IEEE SB, COMSOC in association with Department of ECE organized a Seminar on

Technological Advancement in the field of Communication on 18.04.2016. Dr. M.PremKumar,

Professor ECE delivered the seminar. Highlights of his talks included Cognitive radio, SDN,

Millimeter Wave Technology etc., He also briefed about scope & opportunity in communication

field. He also explained various software tools available and insisted students to work in the field

of Communication.


Seminar on Advanced Embedded Processor

PIT - IEEE SB , RAS in association with Department of ECE organized a Seminar on Advanced

Embedded Processor on 18.04.16. Mr.S.Ganesh, Associate Professor/ ECE delivered the seminar.

During his talk he introduced various embedded processor such as Aurdino, MSP 430 , Raspberry

Pi etc., to the students. He briefed the concepts to make a drone & robot using embedded

processors. He also shared his experience among students how they made UAV for SAVe 2012

Competition which won First Prize at NIOT. He explained various opportunities available in the

embedded field. He insisted students to take up embedded domain to shine in their career.

guest. Dr. T.Jayanthy, Principal PIT was invited as a chief guest to deliver the seminar. During her

talk she started with fundamentals of Electromagnetics. Highlights of her talk included the real

PIT IEEE SB & SP society in association with department of ECE organized a Seminar on Recent

trends in Image & Video Processing on 20.04.2016 for ECE students. Mrs.V.Jeya Ramya,

Assistant Professor delivered the welcome address. Mr. L. Ashok Kumar Assistant Professor ECE

delivered the seminar. His talk covered basic concepts of Image Processing, Major Fields of

Applications with real time examples, Software‟s used with Hardware Implementation. At the end

the seminar. Wherein she spoke on OSI Layers, Routing & networking concepts. She briefed

about various software tools available like NS2, NS3, Qualnet, Wire Shark , etc.,. At the end of the

session she insisted the opportunities and scope of networking domain.

Workshop on Seed your IDEA don‟t Weed

PIT IEEE-SB in association with IEEE Madras section SIGHT organized a Two days Workshop

on “Seed your IDEA don‟t Weed” DURING 26 & 27 May,2016. Mr. Vincent Jain, Chair, IEEE

Madras Section SIGHT, was the resource person. The objective of this workshop was to train the

faculty to do a quality project and make their students to do the same. The session started with

budgeting. Mr. Vincent Jain, interestingly made us to work on how to make budgets. Starting with

our own house expenses. Followed by project Preparation, Evaluation & Proposal Writing. Second

day a small solar energy project was done. He shared his experience how to write project proposal

& how to get proposal approved. The participants felt workshop to be highly beneficiary.

Panimalar Institute of Technology Department of ECE organized Faculty Development Training

Programme on EC 6703-Embedded and Real Time Systems in association with ISTE, IETE and

IEEE RAS during 01.06.2016 to 07.06.2016.Mr.J.Navarajan, Assistant Professor delivered the

welcome address. Dr.M.P.Chitra, Professor and Head delivered the presidential address, during her

speech she explained the importance of Embedded Real time systems in day today life with real

time examples. Multiple speakers from various institutions handled the session as per the Anna

university Embedded Real Time Systems syllabus. Hands on session was given in association with

Advantech Private Limited, Chennai.

focused on Control Strategies for Power Electronics Converters Mathematical tools and functions

in MATLAB for Power Electronic System Electrical Sources and Power Electronic Components

for Power Electronic Circuit Modeling Measurement tools for Power Electronic Circuit Analysis

Two Days Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “C# & ADO.Net Programming”

Two days FDP on C# & ADO.NET programming, in association with ICTACT,CSI,IEEE & IEEE

Computer Society was inaugurated on 02.06.2016 by chief guest Mr.V.Benhar Charles, Deputy

Manager, ICTACT, Dr.T.Jayanthy, Principal of Panimalar Institute of Technology and HOD‟s of

Computer Science and Engineering & Information Technology.

Dr.V.Subedha, Head of Computer Science and Engineering welcomed the gathering. Dr.A.Joshi,

Head of Information Technology felicitated the chief guest.

Objective of organizing this FDP is to provide a solid foundation in object-oriented programming

and intended to provide an introduction to the C# programming with .NET framework for faculty

members to enhance the programming knowledge in C# and managed code development. C# is

prevalent on the Microsoft platform but is also being used to develop software that runs on Linux,

Android, and iOS devices.

On Day 1, 02.06.2016 in morning session Mr. Benhar Charles delivered lecture on Introduction to

C# covering topics of Overview of .NET Framework, CLR, FCL, JIT and etc., and session ended

with tea break. The second session focused on Visual studio integrated development environment

and implementing OOP in C#. After lunch break third session continued with implementing OOP

in C#. In fourth session Events & Delegates in C# has been discussed after tea break.

On Day 2, 03.06.2016 the session started with Introduction to Windows Forms and second session

with Advanced Features in Windows Forms. After lunch break third session focused on Data

Access Using ADO.NET & Database Connectivity. The program ended with Valedictory function.

The program was smooth and really helpful to the participant and the feedback from the participant

showed that they gained knowledge in technology.


Workshop on “Grid and Cloud Computing”


One day Workshop on “Grid and Cloud computing”, in association with IEEE Computer Society,

ICTACT, CSI and LinuXperts Chennai, was inaugurated on 06.06.2016 by Mr. S. Baskar, Chief

Executive Officer, LinuXpert Systems, Chennai, Dr. T. Jayanthy, Principal, Panimalar Institute of

Technology, and Coordinators of Workshop.

Dr. V. Subedha, HoD /CSE, Welcomed the chief guest and the participants for the

workshop. Around 20 Staff members participated in the workshop.The objective of this workshop

is to provide an understanding of the fundamentals and provide comprehensive knowledge in the

field of Grid and Cloud Computing.

Data Analytics. Dr. V. Subedha, HoD/CSE delivered the Welcome address. Dr.A.JoshiHoD/IT

briefed about the Course. Dr. T. Jayanthy Principal, Panimalar Institute of Technology delivered

the presidential address and motivated the participants to do research in developing fields like Data

career.

coding and explained how one can take it as a child play rather than a tedious task. He explained

how to code with a prototype model which raised the student interest. He also talked on “Life as

Software Engineer” spoke on the differences in the software projects before and now. The

workshop started with Scratch tool on day one followed by C++, AND Java Concepts.

Guest Lecture on 10 Steps to Become an Entrepreneur. Dr.Baskaran,Deputy Director of Industries

and Commerce, Govt of Tamil Nadu delivered the talk on 25th

August 2016.The session begun by

the question “what is meant by the start” which aroused our enthusiasm and made us feel

comfortable. Then, the speaker gave his piece of information about the entrepreneurship and made

us aware of how to eradicate the myths that prevent a person from becoming an entrepreneur.


Next, the speaker gave an idea of how thinking out of box will help build a good entrepreneur. He

also made us visualize how even small start-ups have reaped fruitful results. He asked students to

first master the tricks of the concerned field and then become an entrepreneur which gave us

confidence to wake up the entrepreneurs in us. The speaker even made us aware of the various

Government Schemes and Policies available for the Entrepreneur. On the whole, the Journey

started with the idea of Entrepreneurship and progressed through the 10 steps that are essential for

becoming an entrepreneur and finally culminated onto the stage wherein we can implement these

ideas.

Director, Defence Academy, Chennai delivered the talk. The session started with the question “Do

you know the Job opportunities available in the Defence sector?” The speaker made an emphasis

on the procedures on how to enter into this sector. “Opportunities are rare and wise man will never

let it go by him”, the saying that he told not only high lightened the importance of opportunity. On

the whole, there was a seed called “Defence sector exam awareness” has been sowed, which is

expected to be harvested in the nearby future.

PCB design for second year students during July to September 2016. The course introduced the

students to various aspects of PCB design. Around 200 students from ECE attended the short term

course. The information imparted by them will be useful for the students to progress with the ideas

rendered by them in their projects.

Short Term Course on Antenna Design

Dept of ECE in Association with IEEE,RAS,WIE ,IETE,ISTE organized short term course on

Antenna Design - Simulation tool using HFSS for ECE students with Antenna as their research

interest during July to September 2016. Design of Wave guides, RF Filters, Etc. were designed

during the course.

As a part of IEEE day, IEEE SB in association with NEMO (Nurturing Enlightening with Modish

and 21st December 2016. Dr.T.Jayanthy,

Principal PIT, inaugurated the workshop and was also a resource person. She delivered the talk on wearable antennas.
