• PNIE, depending on student’s goals and local employer needs, works:

Without CCNA: PNIE could be combined with other intro courses like HP IT Essentials to prepare students for entry level Networking and IT Technician positions.

Before or during CCNA: PNIE gives much more depth to the layer 1 (media) issues. Estimates are that 70% of what a CCNA level person does is related to layer 1 troubleshooting.

The PNIE Lab Room

The labs for the Panduit Network Infrastructure Essentials course include:

• Hands-on labs that increase in difficulty as the course progresses

• Essential hands-on skills required for an entry-level cable installer

• The use of a work area called the “Lab Wall”


Dedicated Classroom

Ideally, the PNIE Lab Room should be a dedicated facility in which students can practice cabling skills in an environment that mirrors what they will find in the local workplace:

• Similar construction• Multiple walls and work areas• Can grow over time as ideas and donations accrue


Semi-Permanent Lab

If the PNIE Lab Room cannot be permanently converted to a telecommunications wiring lab, then at least a lab wall should be provided for the term. Lab walls provide realistic practice of cabling tasks.

• Tools used to perform cabling exercises at the Lab Walls. (Panduit makes these available to academies at a reduced price.)

• Tools and materials used to build and maintain the Lab and Lab Walls.

• Personal Safety Equipment used by students and Instructors


PNIE Lab Supplies

PNIE Lab requires supplies (consumables):• These are connectors, raceways, labels, and other

items that are used up or worn out over time and which need periodic replenishment. (Panduit makes these available to academies at a reduced price.)

• Materials that are readily available from local sources will not be supplied by the course sponsor.


PNIE Lab Bundles

To simplify ordering, Panduit offers different types of equipment bundles to facilitate class sizing and costs:

• The Standard Bundle is based on class sizes of 4 students -- schools can order what they need

• The Instructor Toolkit bundle provides extra hand tools for instructors to use in demonstrations and for spares -- RECOMMENDED but not required

• The Consumables bundle contains items that are subject to wear and depletion

Surveys of cabling experts to determine tasks expected of an entry-level cable installer

Survey results were reduced into claims, and the PNIE course was structured to teach and assess to these claims

Significant new portions were added to the PNIE curriculum to accommodate these claims

PNIE course is the only approved curriculum by which to prepare for the PAI certification

Although the requisite knowledge can be gained elsewhere, PAI will precisely align with PNIE
