Up to now, geothermal energy has only been used in the

tourist sector. Natural thermal baths are very famous in El Valle de Antón!

Some preliminary studies:

Stakeholders:

SNE: Energy policy maker:

- National energy plan, laws, technical cooperation.

ASEP: Regulatory entity:

- Resolutions.

- Energy generation, transmission and distribution concessions.

ETESA: Grid owner and PPA Bid Acts organizer:

- Study maker (energy potential).

Actual projects in development:

Geothermal concession in Barú-Colorado.

Since 2012.

5MW – 33 621MWh/year of electricity to the grid.

Actual Geothermal Development

Actual projects in development:

129 square kilometers - uninhabited area.

60 000 Inhabitants.

Private Investment.

Replace 19 000 CO2tones/year (aprox.).

Potential reservoir temperature

195 – 234 °C.

Binary cycle for generation with

temperatures between 90° to 140°C.

Other projects in development:

There’s no other energy projects in

development, only for the tourist sector.
