A large gathering of Pan American Round Table members and guests from throughout

the Valley and Mexico shared in the celebration of the McAllen Table’s 75th

anniversary

with an afternoon Tea at the McAllen Country Club on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009.

Distinguished guests present were State Director Elsie Perez from Edinburg, Woman of

the Year for 2005-07 Delia Pérez de Plata from Reynosa, Area C Director Lily Tórrez

and State Treasurer Baudelia Crane from McAllen. City Commissioner Scott Crane, who

read the City’s Proclamation, was also among the special guests.

Special recognition and certificates were presented to those members with a continual

membership of 40 years, or more. Alice Tavárez, Dardanela Cárdenas and Maria Teresa

Garza were honored for having served faithfully throughout the years at the local and

state levels in numerous capacities. Additionally, Distinguished Service Awards were

presented to Frances Metcalf, who served as 1987-89 State Director in addition to many

other posts, and to Carmen Robinson Guerra, who held the highest honor as Alliance

Director General in 1998-2000.

Tables were exquisitely decorated with arrangements of fresh pink roses on rose-colored

table coverings by Bertha Martinez, Chairman, and the other members of the Decorating

Committee. Background music, provided by well-known Mr. Latin of McAllen,

entertained the group. The program consisted of a Power Point presentation of

photographs from the table’s archives collected throughout the years and all guests were

presented with a 75-year commemorative book compiled and designed by member Lily

Tόrrez.

The Pan American Round Tables of the Upper Valley Prepare for PART State Convention

Members of the Pan American Round Tables of McAllen, Alamo/San Juan/Pharr, Edinburg and Rio Grande City/Roma are honored and excited about hosting the 55th biennial P.A.R.T.T. State Convention in the beautiful city of McAllen next spring, and the Planning Committee is working diligently to make it a memorable experience for all who attend.

The event will take place Thursday, March 31 through April 3, 2011, and will have as its theme “It's That Valley Magic”, incorporating all that makes our area of the state so unique; its culture, history, industry, flora, fauna, and other local attractions. The historical Renaissance-Casa de Palmas Hotel has been selected as convention headquarters.

The Planning Committee is made up of Lily Torrez, Chairman; Baudelia Crane, Co-Director, Marlou Levine, Treasurer; State Director Elsie Perez, and the four Table Directors. Meetings started in early December, 2009, and all duties have been distributed among the four tables. The group has met several times and approved a logo design, made arrangementsfor a raffle, door prizes, and the booking of several vendors of jewelry, wearables, and other interesting items. Each of the four Tables shared in the proceeds of the convention, to be used for additional scholarships.

Registration forms and other information about the convention will be sent out later this year. All members are encouraged to join us for an exciting time next spring. We are eager to show our hospitality to all our Texas sisters
