This most useful guide from the British Medical Associa-tion’s Personal Services Bureau is essential reading for those enter-ing the maze of postgraduate diplomas. For each of fifty-eightspecialties are listed diplomas, licensing bodies, frequency ofexaminations, requirements for entry, fees, and location anddetails about suitable courses. For some specialties there are courses but no diploma. Some of the courses listed are suitablefor non-medical graduates (e.g., those on medical demography, i
pharmacology, medical physics, and management). The guidelists the nine vocational training courses for general practice;these offer combined hospital and general-practice experience,but the total number of openings for trainees is limited.
