Bing Crosby and homes ringed with wreathes and festooned with lights. The tradition, however ubiquitous and central to Christmas cheer, is not without its hassles.

Take, for instance, the potentially migraine-inducing ritual that begins for many with families digging into their cluttered storage in search of tangled and hopefully unbroken strands of lights. Cue less-than-fes-tive differences of opinion regarding design followed by hours in the cold on unsteady ladders, infamously the cause for many a holiday accident.

Oh, what DIY cheer! Or perhaps not. Many Palo Alto households are leaving the design and installation of their twinkling holiday lights dis-plays to the experts. Even those who have fond memories of lining the home with lights see the appeal.

“I’ve always enjoyed it; it would get me into the holiday spirit and people would initiate conversations as they walked by. But I’ve found myself increasingly uncomfort-able crawling around on the roof,” Palo Alto resident Michael Hindery said.

Hindrey put up lights for decades before hearing his neighbor had help installing a “neat” display last year. Over 30 Years of Building Excellence on the Mid-

Peninsula

Located in a prime neighborhood of Crescent Park within walking distance to downtown Palo Alto, this newly constructed home

tions.Installers can drape and wrap

lights on rooflines and trees, hang garland and wreathes in windows, install walkway lights and spotlights and even set up laser projections.

“If someone has a profession and that’s what they do for a living, they know how to do it well. You don’t pay the baker to do your gardening,” Eakes said.

The owner of Christmas Light Pros, he has hung holiday lights for nine years and estimated he has worked on approximately 3,000 holiday-lights installations. His business currently designs, installs and maintains seasonal building and landscaping decoration for resi-dences and businesses in Palo Alto, Atherton and Menlo Park.

Services such as Christmas Light Pros ensure displays outshine those of the rest of the block using careful design and installation strategies, Eakes said.

“My goal from a design perspec-tive is to create what we call a tri-fecta,” he said. The approach, done successfully, ensures that the full effect of the light decoration comes through regardless of the angle from which the viewer sees the installa-tion.

The cost of professionally in-stalled holiday displays varies widely. Modest displays can cost approximately $375, while the bill for residential and commercial cus-tomers preferring “more elaborate

designs and displays” can run up to $15,000, Eakes said.

But cost-conscious readers need not fret: Budget-savvy decorators can save 90 to 95 percent on notori-ously high Christmas-season elec-trical bills by selecting LED lights. An increasingly popular option, LED lights save on cost without sacrificing style.

“The color is very similar to in-candescent lighting and yet it’s of a higher quality. It’s known as ‘warm lighting,’” Eakes said.

Contracts for services include maintenance and service throughout the holiday season. If rain shorts an electrical circuit or light bulbs shat-ter, there’s no need to schedule an evening to start anew.

Professionally assisted decorators don’t need to troubleshoot and re-pair displays themselves.

“It’s definitely convenient,” Hin-dery said.

And the best part of leaving your lighting to the professionals? Once the holiday season is over, the home-owner doesn’t need to schedule a weekend to take down the lights and put them in storage. Installation crews guarantee they’ll take down displays in the first two weeks of January.

“It creates a stress-free holiday,” Eakes said.

“If I want a Best Seller, I advertise in the Almanac and the Weekly.” – Lyn Jason Cobb

As a Realtor serving Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Atherton, Portola Valley and Woodside, I do my utmost to provide extraordinary service to my clients. The Almanac and the Palo Alto Weekly is always where I advertise fi rst because I like the home delivery, editorial focus, and it is a great value. I have always had great results promoting open homes in the Palo Alto Weekly and The Almanac, and I also run in special publications like Spring and Fall Real Estate, Neighborhoods and Info Menlo because of the great coverage and online presence. I am also a big believer in the Palo Alto Weekly’s Open Home Guide, which is by far the most accurate and comprehensive. I’ve had many buyers bring in the guide to my ‘Open Homes’ to see what I have listed.”

We will work to help your business grow! For Advertising information, please call

NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on a property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible

for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the exis-tence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the prop-erty. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. If no street address or other common designation is shown, directions to the location of the property may be obtained by sending a written request to the ben-eficiary within 10 days of the date of first publication of this Notice of Sale. If the Trustee is unable to convey title for any reason, the successful bidder’s sole and exclusive remedy shall be the return of monies paid to the Trustee, and the successful bidder shall have no further recourse. The undersigned mortgagee, beneficiary or authorized agent for the mortgagee or benefi-ciary pursuant to California Civil Code Section 2923.5(b) declares that the mortgagee, beneficiary or the mortgag-ee’s or beneficiary’s authorized agent has either contacted the borrower or tried with due diligence to contact the borrower as required by California Civil Code 2923.5. NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bid-ding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the prop-erty itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all

liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insur-ance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mort-gage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call 714-730-2727 or visit this Internet Web site www.ndscorp.com/sales, using the file number assigned to this case 12-20595-SP-CA. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone informa-tion or on the Internet Web site. The best way to verify postponement infor-mation is to attend the scheduled sale.
