“He is ‘the’ King” Palm Sunday 2016

Scripture is quite clear that the OT was given to us as an example to follow, as a Warning for us as we walk down life’s path.

-In 1 Samuel 8 we have the story of the people of Israel demanding a king to lead Them.

-In verses 4-9 of 1 Samuel 8 we see the request of the people of Israel and how God answered this request.

-God heard their request and gave them Saul, son of Kish who turned out to be a Dismal failure and almost ruined the nation.

-“Beware of the burdens of answers to selfish prayers.” The people had not Rejected Samuel, they had rejected the Lord (7). They wanted to be like the other Nations and wanted them to stay that way.

Action point #1. How like the churches in our day and age we have become more and more like the World, hoping that in this compromise we will reach the lost.

-The day came when Israel’s King Jesus Christ, was among them, and on what we call Palm Sunday he rode like a king into Jerusalem.

-Read John’s account chapter 12:12-18. On the exact day the priests were choosing the Passover Lambs that would be slaughtered. He entered Jerusalem as “The Passover Lamb” who will provide the accepted sacrifice for the sins of mankind Once for all time!

-The people welcomed Him enthusiastically, even though many in the crowd did not know who He was. They were there for the Passover, and did not realize “The Passover Lamb was riding into Jerusalem, humble and mounted on a beast of burden.”

-Jesus fulfilled the prophecy on that Palm Sunday that was made 500 years before by the Prophet Zechariah found in chapter 9 and vs. 9…….

-Action point #2, It’s one thing to be in a crowd, seeming to follow Jesus, and quite something else to acknowledge Him with an obedient will and loving heart.

-A few days later another crowd, not the same one had gathered together with shouts “Crucify Him, Crucify Him, We have no king but Caesar!” Beware of following the

crowds friends! -From Jesus birth through His death He revealed He is the King of all.

-Matt. 2:1-12, The Gentile Magi traveled a long distance to acknowledge Jesus as King and present valuable gifts fit only for a King. These Gentiles worshipped Him as King of the Jews and knew Him to be the Savior of the World.

-God used a star to guide them to His Son. That’s not very likely to happen today, but He does use various means to guide people to “King Jesus!” A Sermon, A Gospel tract, A song, A seeming tragedy, the witness of a believer, the kind deed of a Christian friend. He is even using dreams. Story of a Muslim convert to Christianity….dream of Jesus. this Muslim man put His faith and trust in Christ….not Alah to save him from his sin.

-He ruled over the wind and the waves, and when He spoke the instantly obeyed Him

-The water in the sea of Galilee held Him up as if it were concrete, so He could walk on it.

-The demons recognized Him and trembled in His presence, they knew He was King!

-The fish of the sea and birds of the sky obeyed Him as King.

-All of nature obeyed Him while people made in God’s image rejected Him.

-He was King even when He was nailed to the cross! It was customary to put an announcement over the head of the victim declaring his offense. And Pilate wrote about Jesus, “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews” John 19:19.

-For six hours, Jesus reigned from the cross, and everything that happened fulfilled plans and prophecies of the plans of God for man’s redemption.

-Today, Jesus is on His Throne in Heaven, seated at the Father’s right hand, far above every authority, including Satan and his demonic army!

- Eph. 1:20-23,Jesus alone is the head of the body the Church…

- Psalm 24:7-10, He is the King of glory….

- John 14:1-6, One day in I believe the not so distant future, He will come again and

reign as King of the whole world.

-Zechariah 14:9, “And the Lord will be King over All the earth; in that day the Lord will be the only one, and His name the only one.”

Personal application from Palm Sunday 2016:

-Matthew 6:33. Seek to live under His authority, for His glory, His way!

-Walk in Holiness, Serve with a grateful heart, Pray without ceasing, Keep looking up!
