Paldi Community Forest Development Plan:

- Potential for Seasonal EcoTourism/Educational bicycle/horse/backpacker campsite facility along TCT- Sensitive campsite highlighting educational components of the old growth riparian zone of Currie creek and how a water sensitive clear-cut can regenerate into maturity using low-grade selection logging practices.- How mature forests affect the transpiration and hydrology cycles of water quantities and qualities above ground and below ground.- Campsite to be closed during Forest operations.

- Promoting Victoria to Cowichan Lake EcoTourism corridor now being developed.

Pali EcoVillage Development Plan:

- 10+ households/building sites

- Sensitive water use pilot project proposal: - Deep and shallow wells for potable water usage. - Robust rainwater catchment design plan for all grey-water usage.

- Permaculture based perennial food forest demonstrating passive water catchment design with no irrigation.- Swales on contour to passively collect, store and spread rain events- Roof rainwater catchment to provide passive, gravity fed water to kitchen gardens during late summer drought months- Grey-water mulch pit systems to contribute to passive irrigation of perennial wood stem food-plants

Potential to work with these two parcels, and other adjacent parcels to further develop a water sensitive development proposal as a pilot project for other water sensitive areas in the Cowichan Valley.

TRANS-CANADATRAIL

CURRIE CREEK

= 1 ACRE (114 ACRES TOTAL)

= 1 acre = Building site with dug or drilled well = Living Building Challenge house site with robust engineered rain water catchment and grey water re-use system = dependent on engineers survey and proving sufficient water

EXISTING LOGGING ROAD (proposed road to development)- would need to apply for easement- CVRD believes this to be owned by the Mayo family who sounded enthusiastic about our proposal- we would need to verify this to be true if we decide to proceed

PALDI ROAD

= Riparian Zone, Public Access Zone with TCT, EcoTourism and Educational Corridor

= 1 acre = EcoVillage/Organic Farm/Permaculture Food-forest site= Community centre= Affordable housing= Timber frame workshop and forge= Food-forest in swales on contour= Berry patches (blueberry, strawberry, raspberry, cranberry, haskap etc.)= Orchards (too many fruits and nuts to mention)

= 1 acre of EcoForestry based low-grade selection woodlot= This is a damaged clear-cut so it is basically a rescue forest that will be allowed to regenerate into maturity and old growth over time using a low-grade selection harvest model.= Our children and grand-children will be well positioned to sustain themselves with a mature timber harvest in 50 to 75 years time.= Our children, grand children, and great grand children will be one of many great examples of mature and old growth uneven stand woodlot management.= EcoTourism bike/horse/backpacker camping can be carefully designed to complement this long term forest management plan.= Can contribute to CVRD carbon credit plan as a carbon negative community design.

PROPOSED TIMBER FRAME BRIDGE= would be one of our advertised workshops, coordinated with Timber Framers Guild as a fundraising for the CSLA and to promote morewood timber bridges in the area

PALDI ECOVILLAGE WATER MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR WATER SENSITIVE AREAS

- More and more households are drawing finite amounts of drinking water from our aquifers.

- Statistics show that most of our potable/drinking well water does not go to potable uses.

- The CSLA is proposing a community pilot project to monitor well usage for only potable/drinking water usage.

- This would result in upwards of an 80+% decrease in demand from the aquifer.

- The other non-potable water usage would come from an engineered rainwater catchment and grey water re-cycling system on all houses.

- All grey water would be designed to exit into the landscape to irrigate the perennial food-system.

- Uneven stands of Mature and Old-Growth Forests increase local transpiration micro-climates and recharge ground water aquifers.

- The roughly 80 acres north of Currie Creek would be a Community Forest Development plan to model this type of low-grade selection forestry.

- There would be a designed Educational and EcoTourism component to take advantage of the Trans Canada Trail passing through the property.

- Water is a valuable and scarce resource that needs to be treated with more respect.
