Pakistan warns India against breach of water treaty Islamabad, Nov 8: Pakistan has warned India with repri- sals if New Delhi breaches the World Bank-sponsored Indus Waters Treaty, the media reported. "India will be responded (to) if it shows aggression by unilaterally breaking the treaty," the Express News quoted Water and Power Secretary Younis Dagha as saying on Monday. Dagha was addressing the Senate Standing Committee on Water and Power. The Committee met to reconsider a report regarding an adjourn- ment motion moved in the upper house of Parliament by Senator Sherry Rehman. Rehman moved the motion in the backdrop of reported Indian threats to unilaterally revoke the treat. The Pakistan People's Party senator had sought details about the possible repercussions of the move and Pakistan's preparedness to combat such "a war-like situation". "If India shows aggres- sion, then there are some other options," he added. "India cannot stop more water from Neelum river. It can stop water only tempo- rarily for using it." Dagha said the govern- ment had started work on a National Water Policy 2016 and consultations would be completed in the next one to two months. Speaking at the UN General Assembly yester- day, Pakistan's Ambassa- dor to UN Maleeha Lodhi also blamed a "handful of countries" for the lack of any progress in the long- running negotiations to restructure the UN Security Council, an obvious refer- ence to India, Brazil, Ger- many and Japan. She blamed the countries for being "inflexible" in their push for permanent seats on the 15-member body. “This selfish pursuit of national ambition is the real reason that has prevented us from making the Security Council more democratic, account- able, transparent and effec- tive," Lodhi was quoted as saying. PTI Resolve differences through dialogue: UN Srinagar, Nov 8: United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has expressed concern over continuing clashes between Indian and Pakistani troops along the Line of Control and urged New Delhi and Islamabad to resolve their issues through talks. According to Radio Paki- stan this was stated by UN spokesperson Stephane Dujar- ric at regular briefing while responding to a question. "The Secretary General has called on India and Paki- stan to resolve their differ- ence peacefully through dia- logue," said the radio report. "He said the United Nations continues to watch this situ- ation of concern," it added. GK NEWS NETWORK Srinagar, Nov 8: The State Human Rights Commis- sion on Tuesday asked the State Government to pay a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to a man whose leg was amputated after being shot by unidentified gunmen in north Kashmir’s Bandipo- ra district in 2003. In an order, SHRC chair- person Justice(retd) Bilal Nazki today directed the Government to pay com- pensation of Rs 2 lakh to Muhammad Elias Gujar son of Muhammad Ismail Gujjar of Wangam Doban Bandipora. I have no doubt in mind that petitioner suf- fered a gunshot wound which resulted in amputa- tion of one of his legs. He has submitted that he is 36 years old and has suffered injuries when he was in 20s. He submits that he has no source of income. The gunshot suf- fered by him can be attrib- uted to overall situation in which the State finds itself for many years resulting in failure to protect a young man and then blam- ing him for the tragedy he suffered,” the SHRC order reads. “Therefore, a compensa- tion of Rs 2 lakh is ordered to be paid in his favour. Compliance report shall be filed by the Home Sec- retary within four weeks,” it adds. Jama’at denounces detention of Zahid Ali GHS Dagapora safe: CEO Ganderbal Srinagar, Nov 8: The district edu- cation authorities in Ganderbal on Thursday said some persons on November 3 had tried to set ablaze Government High School Dagapora, however due to timely action by locals the building was saved. In a statement, Chief Education Officer Ganderbal said “the timely action saved the school, however there were minor damages to a tin shed having un-serviceable stock items.” “There has been no damage to any other school build- ing,” the statement said. Srinagar, Nov 8: Jama’at-e-Isl- ami (JeI) Jammu and Kashmir today denounced the continued detention of its spokesperson advocate Zahid Ali, terming it “undemo- cratic and unconstitu- tional”. “Advocate Zahid Ali, spokesperson of Jama’at, who is under police cus- tody and is confined in sub-jail Kothibagh since August 13. Yesterday police produced him in police station Sha- heed Gunj here where the police remand was extended till November 12. Government and its agencies are actually ter- rified from the status of Zahid Ali and it is why he is being entrapped under false and flimsy cases in order to prolong his detention,” a spokesman of the Jama’at, in a statement today, said. “Police and other forces have created a war like situation and detained thousands of youths including school going children. Govern- ment forces are spoiling future youth. Presently there are countless youth who have been detained by police under infamous law PSA and have been lodged in far flung prisons which is itself a brute vio- lation of democratic,” the spokesman said, adding that “All human rights bodies are appealed to take effective and con- crete measures for the safety and well-being of defenseless Kashmiris.” DeM pays tributes to slain Hizb militants Srinagar, Nov 8: Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) secretary general Nahida Nas- reen today paid rich tributes to Hizb- ul-Mujahideen (HM) militants, Waseem Ahmad Khanday and Saddam Hussain Mir, who were slain in separate encoun- ters in south Kashmir’s Shopian district. “The people of Jammu Kashmir should understand the importance of each pro-movement gunman and give them every possible protection even at the cost of their own lives. This is an unbearable loss and we all need to bow our heads and introspect. These youth have sacrificed everything for the sake of Allah and get us free from India’s forc- ible control,” Nasreen, in a statement today, said. Unless all parties are taken into confi- dence, no viable solution is possible.” Paying tributes to Gowher Nazir on his first martyrdom anniver- sary, Karate said, “We are indebted to our martyrs.” Kashmiri student bags National Award Srinagar, Nov 8: A student from Kashmir received Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam IGNITE Award (National Award) from the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtapati Bhavan, New Delhi. The event was organized by National Innovation Founda- tion (NIF)-India, Autonomous Body of Department of Science and Technology Government of India. The award function was held on November 7 in which President conferred the awards to the winners. Zufa Iqbal, a class 12th stu- dent of Presentation Convent Higher Secondary School, Rajbagh Srinagar was select- ed for her innovation “Namda Making Machine”. Since the introduction of traditional technique of Namda (woolen carpet) making, there has not been any technological inter- vention in this regard. The machine is the first of its kind for automating the process of Namda production. Hailing from Bota Kadal, Lal Bazar Srinagar, Zufa plans to refine her innovation and commercialize it as a cost and time-efficient machine, so that it will be fruitful for the end users. She had submitted her idea to GIAN/NIF Cell-JK, University of Kashmir, which has been established at Uni- versity of Kashmir, under a Memorandum of Understand- ing (MOU) between NIF and University of Kashmir. In an order, SHRC chair-person Justice(retd) Bilal Nazki today directed the Government to pay com-

pensation of Rs 2 lakh to Muhammad Elias Gujar son of Muhammad Ismail Gujjar of Wangam Doban Bandipora.

“ I have no doubt in mind that petitioner suf-fered a gunshot wound which resulted in amputa-tion of one of his legs.

He has submitted that he is 36 years old and has suffered injuries when he was in 20s. He submits that he has no source of income. The gunshot suf-

fered by him can be attrib-uted to overall situation in which the State finds itself for many years resulting in failure to protect a young man and then blam-ing him for the tragedy he suffered,” the SHRC order reads.

“Therefore, a compensa-tion of Rs 2 lakh is ordered to be paid in his favour. Compliance report shall be filed by the Home Sec-retary within four weeks,” it adds.

Jama’at denounces detention of Zahid Ali

GHS Dagapora safe: CEO Ganderbal Srinagar, Nov 8: The district edu-cation authorities in Ganderbal on Thursday said some persons on November 3 had tried to set ablaze Government High School Dagapora, however due to timely action by locals the building was saved.

In a statement, Chief Education Officer Ganderbal said “the timely action saved the school, however there were minor damages to a tin shed having un-serviceable stock items.” “There has been no damage to any other school build-ing,” the statement said.

Srinagar, Nov 8: Jama’at-e-Isl-ami (JeI) Jammu and Kashmir today denounced the continued detention of its spokesperson advocate Zahid Ali, terming it “undemo-cratic and unconstitu-tional”.

“Advocate Zahid Ali, spokesperson of Jama’at, who is under police cus-tody and is confined in sub-jail Kothibagh since August 13. Yesterday police produced him in police station Sha-heed Gunj here where the police remand was extended till November 12. Government and its agencies are actually ter-rified from the status of Zahid Ali and it is why he is being entrapped under false and flimsy cases in

order to prolong his detention,” a spokesman of the Jama’at, in a statement today, said.

“Police and other forces have created a

war like situation and detained thousands of youths including school going children. Govern-ment forces are spoiling future youth. Presently there are countless youth who have been detained by police under infamous law PSA and have been lodged in far flung prisons which is itself a brute vio-lation of democratic,” the spokesman said, adding that “All human rights bodies are appealed to take effective and con-crete measures for the safety and well-being of defenseless Kashmiris.”

DeM pays tributes to slain Hizb militantsSrinagar, Nov 8: Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) secretary general Nahida Nas-reen today paid rich tributes to Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) militants, Waseem Ahmad Khanday and Saddam Hussain Mir, who were slain in separate encoun-ters in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

“The people of Jammu Kashmir should understand the importance of each pro-movement gunman and give them every possible protection even at the cost of their own lives. This is an unbearable loss and we all need to bow our heads and introspect. These youth have sacrificed everything for the sake of Allah and get us free from India’s forc-ible control,” Nasreen, in a statement today, said.

Bita Karate for Kashmir resolution Srinagar, Nov 8 : Jammu Kashmir Libera-tion Front (R) chairman Farooq Ahmad Dar alias Bita Karete today said the resolution of Kash-mir issue within ambit of Indian Constitution or through bilateral talks was “meaningless.”

Responding to the state-ment of British Prime Minister Theresa May, Bita Karate, in a state-ment today, said, “Political future of Jammu and Kash-mir can only be decided through UN resolutions or tripartite talks between all stakeholders. Unless all parties are taken into confi-dence, no viable solution is possible.” Paying tributes to Gowher Nazir on his first martyrdom anniver-sary, Karate said, “We are indebted to our martyrs.”

Kashmiri student bags National AwardSrinagar, Nov 8: A student from Kashmir received Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam IGNITE Award (National Award) from the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtapati Bhavan, New Delhi.

The event was organized by National Innovation Founda-tion (NIF)-India, Autonomous Body of Department of Science and Technology Government of India. The award function was held on November 7 in which President conferred the awards to the winners.

Zufa Iqbal, a class 12th stu-dent of Presentation Convent Higher Secondary School, Rajbagh Srinagar was select-

ed for her innovation “Namda Making Machine”. Since the introduction of traditional technique of Namda (woolen carpet) making, there has not been any technological inter-vention in this regard. The machine is the first of its kind for automating the process of Namda production.

Hailing from Bota Kadal, Lal Bazar Srinagar, Zufa plans to refine her innovation and commercialize it as a cost and time-efficient machine, so that it will be fruitful for the end users. She had submitted her idea to GIAN/NIF Cell-JK, University of Kashmir, which has been established at Uni-versity of Kashmir, under a Memorandum of Understand-ing (MOU) between NIF and University of Kashmir. NIF Cell-JK has been support-ing grassroots technological innovations from the length and breadth of J&K State and scores of innovators have been awarded and supported.
