ner table. He loved listening to them all tellabout their day and he used this time tohave family devotions and prayer.

Not long after Al retired at the age of 65,he decided he wanted to help others in need,so he along with a few friends went on somemission trips. He went to Mexico twice andonce to the Amazon in Brazil. He helpedconstruct a mission house in the middle ofthe jungle that is fully functional still today.That mission house has been able to reachmany Indians in the area.

Al’s wife, Mary Alice passed away 11years ago. Now Al enjoys his 16 grand-children and 10 great grandchildren.

He enjoys visiting with old friends andgetting to know some knew friends that hehas met at Railside! Al says he loves all of

the aides here and thatthey are always so help-ful and kind to him. Heenjoys our music pro-grams, Men’s breakfastand Railside Café and allour special events. In hisspare time he also enjoysa new hobby of drawing!

Al E.Al was born on August 4th, 1938 to

George and Janet E. He grew up here in By-ron Center on the farm his family owned.He has 2 brothers James and Daniel and 2sisters Marylynn and Rosalie. He lovedworking the farm especially working withthe animals and milking the cows.

He and his siblings went through the By-ron Center School District and once Al fin-ished high school he jumped right into thework force. His first job was for Mekof Con-struction laying Bricks. He also had aproduce run that he did for about fifteenyears in Northern Michigan and he farmedhis family farm up until the time he retired.

Mary Alice was Al’s sweetheart. They metat a roller skating rink where a first meet-ing turned into a first date! They were mar-ried on September 2,1960 at the First Chris-tian Reformed Churchof Byron Center. Al andMary Alice rented anupstairs apartment for awhile before buying theirown home. They had 4children, Robert,William, Luann, andMary Beth. Al’s favoritememory is when MaryAlice and his childrengathered around the din-

ing costume make up,listening to music orworking on different Artprojects.

Amanda has worked in our Culinary De-partment for 1 year. In that short time shehas gone above and beyond for our resi-dents. She has definitely been a great ad-dition to our team in thekitchen. Thank you forbeing such a depend-able, caring person!
