fles that paid the expenses for an unaudited total of about $1200. Which leads me into two important announcements! First, Debbie Malonson, Shad-ow Mountain Quilter and PAC member, will take the position of bookkeeper for PAC. She is a professional bookkeeper and will be responsible for maintaining the Quick Books accounting program and providing financial reports to the PAC board on all of our events, such as “Come to the Cab-
aret.” Debbie is in the process of entering a backlog of information to give us some final reports. Then, I am pleased to an-nounce that Selway Mulkey, re-tired Nye County School District administrator, will assist in coordi-nating PACs Youth Arts program. With him come years of experi-ence with children and a great love of the arts. Selway support-ed PAC years ago as we got the original Artists in Schools after school program going. Welcome Debbie and Selway!
The USAF came to town on March 28 “disguised” as four clarinet players: the Wild West Winds, part of the Band of the Golden West stationed at Travis AFB, California. Sponsored by PAC, the WWW conducted a master class for members of the Pahrump Valley High School band (Director, Eric Kunzi) prior to performing a free evening concert in the PVHS auditorium. The excellent quartet played a 90-minute concert with music
ranging from classical to jazz, entertaining the audience of about 180 people. What a treat to have this level of profes-sional musicians in our midst! The next weekend, April 5th, saw more professional perform-ers in town, with music and dance for “Come to the Cabaret!” Dondino headlined the dinner show, bringing his 7-piece or-chestra directed by Debbie Rich-ards, Liz Lieberman Ovation Dancers, special guest narrator Dr. Jeff Geihs, director of Clark
County School District Turnaround Schools, 4-Ever Yours Barbershop quartet, and surprise guest, Charlie Duncan, a member of the Cornell Gunther’s Coasters. What.Fun.Entertainment! Dondino’s rich voice and smooth delivery backed by the orchestra made this a memorable evening. Charlie Duncan provided a walk down memory lane with a medley of Coasters hits. One highlight of the evening was our own Pahrump Valley Times reporter, Mark
Waite, onstage singing with Dondi-no…well, you had to be there. Dr. Geihs gave an inspirational mes-sage on the reason for the evening – supporting and raising funds for PACs arts programs for the youth in our community. Gift baskets raffles and 50-50 drawing added more fun to the evening, along with “flappers” costumed in keeping with the 1920s Cabaret theme. $700 was donated directly in support of the Youth Arts program which will be combined with the proceeds from ticket sales and raf-

Shadow Mountain Quilters/Fiber Arts News
The quilters kicked off sales on the 2015 Opportunity Quilt at the Desert Quilters of Nevada quilt show in Henderson over the weekend of April 4-6. The quilt and matching rack, beautifully crafted by Mike Cosgrove, brought good sales. Thanks to all the volunteers who donated their hours to sell tickets.
Lynn McDonald reminded members to sign up for the UFO (Unfinished Objects) Challenge. The Programs Committee introduced a fabric challenge with a buy-in for a 1/2 yard of fabric. Those participating must complete a quilt, of any size, using the whole 1/2 yard and any other fabrics desired. The quilts will then be entered in the 2015 quilt show. In May, Monda Eagan is teaching an apron class and
in June Diane Johnston is teaching a class on making a quillo (a quilt in a pillow). July 14-16 will bring our 1st Annual SMQ Retreat at Longstreet Hotel/Casino. We’ll have time to sew up a storm uninterrupted. Can’t wait! The next week, Melinda Gorley (ArtBeat Editor and crochet master) is teaching a class on Tunisian Crochet. Then in August, Sonia Wittenberg is teaching a tote bag class (can we ever have too many totes?).

During our March 17th meeting we twisted some arms and got our board members in place for next
year. Lloyd Martin will stay as our President, Flora Collier will stay as our Treasurer, Kathy Leroy
will stay on as our scheduling secretary for the Gallery and Princy Simonsen will do publicity and co-
manage the Gallery website with Kathy Leroy. Marti Ziegler and Jessica Wakefield will co-
secretary. Wilhelmina Moses and Gary Howland will continue to help with the hanging committee.
The Art Gallery had a reception on Saturday, April 26th celebrating our second birthday. We are
exhibiting six local artists and our featured artist is Princy Simonsen.
Princy and her husband Bruce moved to Pahrump about eight years ago.
She joined The Spring Mountain Art Guild and started participating in
their galleries and workshops, meeting lots of great people and fellow
artists along the way. She has done three public works here in
Pahrump. A wall mural in the community library Children's reading
room "Summertime", "Cozy Corner" in the entrance to the Pahrump Art
Gallery, and "Johnnie Mine", a mural backdrop for a mining display at
the Pahrump Museum. You can view more of her artwork at
www.princysart.com.
Three of our Gallery members did some volunteer work for the
"Cabaret" event. Pictured are the paintings of dancers that were
used in a production number. They were done by Princy
Simonsen, Kathy Leroy and Charlise Butler.
Monda Eagan gave a workshop in the Gallery on
"Painting on Fabric". Such beautiful possibilities.
All of us who are artists should be decorating our
fabrics with art. Makes a plain denim shirt a "One
of a kind" if you create your own design. Thanks
Monda for a fun class. We will be changing out the
Art Gallery June 30th so if you are interested in
exhibiting please contact Kathy at 727-7281 or
Princy at 537-7958. Be sure to check out our
website at www.pahrumpartgallery.com
