CALENDAR TERM 1 PRINCIPAL’S NEWS
I hope parents and carers found the Parent Information Evening
last week informative and helpful. It takes staff and parents
working together to ensure the best possible education for your
children. Many parents commented they felt more informed and
aware of their child’s learning day at school.
The new playground space opened last Friday. It seemed to be an
absolute hit at recess and lunchtime! A huge thank you to our
P&C for jointly funding this wonderful play space to be enjoyed by
our school community. We will be establishing guidelines for this
space in conjunction with the students.
Our School Development Day for staff in our first week back
included mandatory training as well as learning about staff
wellbeing and how high expectations and engagement of
students in primary school leads to improved learning outcomes
in Year 7.
The Stage 2 teachers comprising of Mrs Chrysostomou, Miss
Grisanti, Mr Lewis and myself began a project at the University of
Sydney STEM Academy last week. STEM is an acronym for Science,
Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. I will be completing
the project with 4J this year. The STEM Teacher Academy primary
program aims to introduce and support exciting and effective
approaches to learning and enhance teachers’ knowledge of
content to teaching integrated science, mathematics and
technology in Years 3-6.

The program also aims to develop teachers’ awareness of relevant STEM-related applications to society and career
pathways. If you as a parent would like to become involved or ‘showcase’ skills you have in any of these areas we
would love to hear from you! Please contact Miss Grisanti who is our team leader for this project. We will be
developing a Community of Practice with other schools, in particular Botany, Daceyville, Matraville and Clovelly
Public Schools.
SCHOOL ART PROJECT AND GARDENS
The finishing touches are being made to our school art and gardens project from last year. 3/4G helped spread the
mulch and new plants. Year 6 students last year also gave the school a voucher for Flower Power which was used
to purchase the plants in the photo on the right below.
Ms Nicole Mayhew
Principal
SOUTH SYDNEY HIGH SCHOOL
Ms Janice Neilsen, Principal of South Sydney High School, will be visiting Pagewood PS immediately before the next
P&C meeting for interested families to hear about the educational programs at the school. Parents of children in Year
3 and above are encouraged to come along and learn more about the high school as well as have the opportunity to
ask questions. This will be held on Tuesday 3 March at 6:15pm-7:00pm in the library.
READING HELPERS NEEDED!
We are currently looking for volunteers to help with a special reading program for Year 1 students called ‘Being
Excited About Reading’ (BEAR). The aim of this program is to provide selected Year One students with the
opportunity to improve their oral reading skills by providing extra reading practice with a trained tutor. Becoming a
BEAR tutor will involve a one off training session with a Pagewood PS staff member and dedicating some time each
week to working with some Year One students. If you are interested in becoming a BEAR tutor, please inform Ms
Hayley Best, the Learning and Support Teacher (K-2) via email at [email protected] .
CHOIR AUDITIONS
Choir Auditions are now open to Year 3 students. Auditions will be held tomorrow Tuesday 25 February at 1pm first
half of lunch in 1B classroom with Mrs Berman. Students from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 are invited to audition. If your
child will miss auditions due to the swimming carnival please send an email to Mrs Berman.

Junior Dance will be at lunchtime on Friday this week, due to the Zone Swimming carnival. It will resume as normal
during Tuesday lunchtimes from Week 6. Thank you! Miss Grisanti
STATEMENT OF ACCOUNT
Your child’s Statement of Account was sent home last week for each family. To pay your child’s ‘Statement of Account’,
it is helpful to the school if Parents and Carers use the Parent Online Payment (POP) system. This is our preferred
method of payment and reduces the amount of cash being handled at school by students and staff. To pay by POP,
please go to the Pagewood Public School website at http://www.pagewood-p.schools.nsw.edu.au and select ‘Make a
payment’ at the top of the page. Parents and Carers are welcome to pay for two or more children in one payment.
Please note that this facility is to pay for expenses on your Statement of Account only, it cannot be used to pay for the
Canteen or P&C costs such as Uniforms or fundraising. Payment instructions are on page 7. When paying by POP you
must enter:
student’s first name and surname
class
Please tick what you are paying for (eg. voluntary contribution, sport, excursion, other, etc)
$ Amount
You DO NOT need the Student Registration Number
This is a secure payment system hosted by Westpac to ensure that your credit/debit card details are captured in a
secure manner. These details are not passed back to the school.
If you wish to pay by cash, please send cash payments to your child’s teacher on Tuesday only.
Please arrange to pay this account by Friday 6 March.

KISS AND RIDE ZONES Kiss and Ride Zones are designed for your convenience and for your child’s safety. Designed for quick entry and exit,
these zones minimise congestion and risk when used properly by all parents and carers. These zones operate under
the same conditions as no parking zones, which means you may stop to drop off or pick up children for a maximum of
2 minutes. You're required to remain in your vehicle. Days and hours of operation may apply to some zones.
It is very important that all parents and carers follow the rules so that this zone is safe and effective for everyone. Our
main priority is the safety of all our students. If grandparents or carers will be using this zone can you please give them
a copy of the rules so they are aware of the system in place.
Students will be advised to stand back against the fence, away from the kerb, and wait until their car is at the front of
the zone before they proceed. If your child is not waiting, please drive away and return to the queue or park legally
and walk to collect them.
Please note this zone will not be supervised by school staff. It is based on a “give each other a fair go” system. Please
respect the timing and load children and their bags straight into the car, not the boot, as this will speed up the process.
Council will be patrolling the area to supervise this facility.
