I don’t know what led me to pull together in a month 30 poemsfrom some 60 years of mainly unpublished but readable lyrics
it may have been the repeated remark by a friend urging me toget on with it
so I closeted myself to cull out poems I wasn’t comfortable
with and to revise the rest
these deal more with the many expressions of love life literatureart and nature than with the ninth month of the year that’s inthe title

everything’s going my way
1I roll over in bed supine and sated with sleepI head for breakfast alert and level headedI take with me all that is good in my dreams
I carry not a burden not a care
morning is here
it doesn’t greet it engulfs meit takes me to a realm of light and airthat waits on me as a good table waiterdoes
no strain to serveno anxiety to pleasenothing palpable in hand
objects are quietsubdued to their assigned place
furniture is out of the way and not sharp at the edgesrugs sigh underfoot curtains sweep me a curtsy doors allow passage and wave me throughwall mirrors turn and gaze at meand potted plantshum
I feel aliveas on the day of creationI’m alive as never before

three men go down
in an elevatorit stops doors opena woman steps in
the world changesmatter and spaceare reconstitutedand redistributed
we don’t see her faceher back’s to usit makes no differenceheight garb hair colour
the world has changed
at the next stopa man entersnow we are five
but the new order holdswithout changewe reach the last stop
we five scatterwe take a changed world with uswe leave an empty world behind
