After working hard all summer, Zach Walgren was finally reward- ed with a trip to the State Wres- tling Tournament. “I wrestled once a week in Columbus and once a week in Washington, so seeing all of that hard work be put to use is a dream come true,” commented Walgren. Only 16 wrestlers from each weight division out of the entire state of Iowa qualify for the tour- nament, making this achieve- ment a tremendous honor. Although Stout’s wrestling ca- reer is over, Walgren is confident he can qualify for State again and put forth a better showing after working hard in the off season. A much improved Washington Wrestling team earned their place in the record books by being the first team in school history to quali- fy for the Sectional Meet after plac- ing 2nd at the district meet. This year’s squad of wrestler’s were much improved from the year previously, and much of this new success can be credited to the leadership showcased by the Senior class and the work some wrestlers put forth in the off season. Al- though the team loses a large class of Senior’s, a talented 8th grade class along with more experienced underclassmen will be sure to bridge the gap left behind. “I feel like next year we will be able to step up and lead the team on to an even more successful sea- son,” commented Junior Tyler Jas- pering. “It’s pretty awesome to be the first team in school history to qualify for regional duals.” -Joel Vittetoe, ‘10. “It’s an amazing feeling to be in the same category as Stephanie Rich and Mary Berdo.” -Cassey Sobaski ’10. Kaleb Rich Sports Editor The girls softball team had a very successful season last year in which they reached the substate final and eventually lost that game to the number 1 ranked Clear Creek Amana Clip- pers. The Clippers went on to win the state championship. The demons had many players land All-Conference Awards. They also had a few players receive All-District Awards, and they also had a couple of players receive All-State Awards. The demons finished the season at 2 games above .500. Even though their record does not show how much of a successful year it was for them, look at the team reaching the substate final. That speaks for itself to how much work the girls put in in the offseason and the season to get to that point. “We had a lot of fun this season, and our record shows that.”-Willie McConnell, ‘10.
