As we approach Pentecost, the end of the Easter season, scripture prepares the disciples for life in the world as Christ returns to the Father and we His people, His body, continue His mission on the earth. The relationship between Christ and His disciples, which analogously refers to the church, will be dramatically changed with His return to the Father in the Ascension and the arrival of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. These disciples who have had serious difficulty in under-standing and following Jesus while he lived among them, taught them, and lead them in the world are now being pro-moted in God’s Kingdom to be His hands and feet among us, teaching truth, and leading the Church in the world. This task entrusted to the disciples is an impossible task for them, and they knew it. How would they be able to follow the will of God which was impossible for them? It is for this reason Jesus explains and gives to the disci-ples His succession of authority, power, and understanding; His “peace”. What is this peace he gives? It is His Love for the Father and the wonderful Love exchange that occurs between Him and the Father, whose name is Holy Spirit. It is by living in that Love and the exchange of the Holy Spirit with Christ and others; we can have His Peace. By dwelling in His Peace and sharing it, as we are meant to do during mass, we support, in Love, fellow disciples of Christ in the Church; we invite others to Christ by our example of God’s presence in us; and will inspire the spiritually dead to come to the vine so as to be truly attached to Christ and live in the Spirit with us. Christ is telling them and us that we are to Love like Him; not from ourselves for ourselves, but from a full abandon-ment to the Love given to us from the Father, to the Son, and manifested by the Holy Spirit through ministry of the Church in our assembly.
It is for this reason in the Acts of the Apostles that a letter and specific representatives were sent to the Gentile cities to clearly explain the teachings of the Church. It is im-portant that we follow and believe what has been given to us from God through an unbroken chain of representation, or apostolic succession. What comes from God cannot be created by human beings; we can only accept and give that which is godly from God. This important principle is as im-portant today as it was in biblical times. So often popular ideas arise about God, morality, and the rules of Church that originate in entertainment and imagination which we end up believing in; such belief can dramatically affect the course of our lives. When it comes to understanding the faith it is ok to discuss your thoughts with others, but understand that the truth is best clarified through consultation with a priest, or other religious whose lives are dedicated to Christ, is nec-essary. Ultimately, here in the Diocese of San Diego it is our bishop Robert McElroy, who is the apostolic representative of Christ, whom is the most important person to listen to in order to understand the faith in our local Church and who is responsible for the propagation of apostolic truth.

Cristo les está diciendo a nosotros ya nosotros que debemos amar como Él; no de nosotros mismos por nosotros mismos, sino de un abandono total al Amor que nos fue dado por el Padre, al Hijo y manifestado por el Espíritu Santo a través del ministerio de la Iglesia en nuestra asamblea. Es por esta razón en los Hechos de los Apóstoles, una carta y representantes específicos fueron enviados a las ciudades gentiles para explicar claramente las enseñanzas de la Iglesia. Es importante que sigamos y creamos lo que Dios nos ha dado a través de una cadena ininterrumpida de representación o sucesión apostólica.
