Information was shared about proper medicine storage, disposal of outdated and unused medication, as well as reminders about how to prevent harmful medicine mishaps. MARY COURTER Mary Ella Courter, 90, of Winchester, formerly of Valley Falls, died Friday, January 16, at the F.W. Huston Sr. Living Center. She was born August 13, 1929, in Val- ley Falls, Kansas, the daughter of Charles Frank and Mary Marga- ret Hollis Gillum. Mary was a homemaker in her own home for many years, she then worked as a cook in the nursing home in Valley Falls, KS for 10 years. She married Dale Richard Courter in Oskaloosa, on De- cember 13, 1945. He preceded her in death in 1991. Other survivors include one son, Richard “Rick” Courter, Nortonville, two daughters, Sherri Jeffers, Oskaloosa, and Mary Ann Hansen, Valley Falls, KS. One brother, Claude Gillum, Topeka and one sister, Shirley Kerr, Oskaloosa, KS. Eleven grandchildren, 28 great-grand- children and six great-great- grandchildren. Barnettfamilyfh.com Paid obituary JOHN BODDE John Henry Bodde, 87, died Dec. 17, 2019, at his home in Pagosa Springs, Colo. He was born July 16, 1930, in Valley Falls, to Henry and Mary Bodde. He became a Navy pilot and graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in business. John retired from his job as a contract manager for a U.S. defense contractor and then spent many years on a lake house in Jackson, Mich., that he and his wife, Dorothy, built. He is survived by his wife of 63 years; one daughter, Doretta Ward, of Colorado; five sons, Matthew Bodde, of California, Vince Bodde, of Michigan, Wil- liam Bodde, of Massachusetts, Tim Bodde, of Missouri, and George Bodde, of Colorado; three sisters, Mary Katherine Duncan, Jerry Sullivan, and Bea Rafanelli; and 10 grandchil- dren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Bodde. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan. 13 at Immaculate Heart of Mary/Pope John Paul II Church, Pagosa Springs. They join State Director Alex Richard and District Rep- resentative Michele Payne in representing the northeast re- gion of Kansas out of the Olathe office. Metsker previously served 12 years as a member of the Shaw- nee Mission School District Board of Education. She served as a district representative for Congressman Kevin Yoder for eight years. Osterhaus, a resident of Overland Park, served on the Johnson County Commission for the past eight years where he worked to oversee the Johnson County Library Master Plan, expand the Johnson County Mental Health Department, including the Veterans Treat- ment Courts, supported the construction of the new Johnson County Courthouse and Coro- ners Facility, and corrected the understaffing of the Johnson County Sheriff’s office.

MARy COuRTER Mary Ella Courter, 90, of Winchester, formerly of Valley Falls, died Friday, January 16, at the F.W. Huston Sr. Living Center. She was born August

13, 1929, in Val-ley Falls, Kansas, the daughter of Char les Frank and Mary Marga-ret Hollis Gillum. Mary was a h o m e m a k e r i n her own home for

many years, she then worked as a cook in the nursing home in Valley Falls, KS for 10 years. She married Dale Richard Courter in Oskaloosa, on De-cember 13, 1945. He preceded her in death in 1991. Other survivors include one son, Richard “Rick” Courter, Nortonville, two daughters, Sherri Jeffers, Oskaloosa, and Mary Ann Hansen, Valley Falls, KS. One brother, Claude Gillum, Topeka and one sister, Shirley Kerr, Oskaloosa, KS. Eleven

JOHN BODDE John Henry Bodde, 87, died Dec. 17, 2019, at his home in Pagosa Springs, Colo.

He was born July 16, 1930, in Valley Falls, to Henry and Mary Bodde. He became a Navy pilot and graduated from K a n s a s S t a t e

University with a degree in business. John retired from his job as a contract manager for a U.S. defense contractor and then spent many years on a lake house in Jackson, Mich., that he and his wife, Dorothy, built. He is survived by his wife of 63 years; one daughter, Doretta Ward, of Colorado; five sons, Matthew Bodde, of California, Vince Bodde, of Michigan, Wil-liam Bodde, of Massachusetts, Tim Bodde, of Missouri, and George Bodde, of Colorado; three sisters, Mary Katherine Duncan, Jerry Sullivan, and Bea Rafanelli; and 10 grandchil-dren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Bodde. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan. 13 at Immaculate Heart of Mary/Pope John Paul II Church, Pagosa Springs. A private inurnment was held in the Columbarium Garden at the church. Donations can be made to Pope John Paul II Church.

Moran names two district representatives Susan Metsker will primar-ily work on behalf of Kansans to address any concerns or issues they may encounter with a fed-eral agency. Jason Osterhaus will serve as a contact and representative at community events and meet-ings for Shawnee, Douglass, Wy-andotte, Miami, Lyon, Ottawa, Osage, Jackson and Jefferson counties. They join State Director Alex Richard and District Rep-resentative Michele Payne in representing the northeast re-gion of Kansas out of the Olathe office. Metsker previously served 12 years as a member of the Shaw-nee Mission School District Board of Education. She served as a district representative for Congressman Kevin Yoder for eight years. Osterhaus, a resident of

Overland Park, served on the Johnson County Commission for the past eight years where he worked to oversee the Johnson County Library Master Plan, expand the Johnson County Mental Health Department, including the Veterans Treat-ment Courts, supported the construction of the new Johnson County Courthouse and Coro-ners Facility, and corrected the understaffing of the Johnson County Sheriff ’s office.
