On January 11, Abhay Singh Chautala had offered his conditional resignation from the state Assembly in support of the agitating farmers. Twitter suspends over 550 accounts after violence NEW DELHI: Twitter on Wednesday suspended over 550 accounts from its platform in connection with the violence during the farmers' tractor rally in the national capital on the 72nd Republic Day. A Twitter spokesperson told that the platform has also labelled tweets which were found to be in violation of its "synthetic and ma- nipulated media policy". "We have taken strong enforcement action to protect the conversation on the service from attempts to incite vi- olence, abuse, and threats that could trigger the risk of offline harm by blocking certain terms that violate our rules for trends. Violence not acceptable at any cost: Capt CHANDIGARH, JANUARY 27: Terming as unacceptable the violence perpetrated by certain elements during today’s Tractor Rally in the na- tional capital, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday urged all genuine farm- ers to immediate vacate Delhi and return to the borders, where they had been protesting peacefully for the past two months. The Chief Minister also ordered a high alert in Punjab amid the tension and violence in Delhi, and di- rected DGP Dinkar Gupta to ensure that law and order in the state is not disturbed at any cost. Expressing grave concern over the situation, the Chief Minister said the violence was apparently trig- gered by some people who violated the rules laid down for the Tractor March through mutual agreement be- tween the Delhi Police and the Kisan Unions. It was unfortunate that these elements disturbed the peaceful agitation of the farmers, he said, condemning the inci- dents that took place at the historic Red Fort and some other key points of the national capital. Haryana CM condemns Delhi turmoil CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal has strongly condemned the incident in Delhi especially on Red Fort on the occasion of Republic Day and said that the farmer’s protest has now gone out of the control of its leaders and has deviated from its direction. He has also appealed the farmers to return to their homes after yesterday's sad incident. The Chief Minister said this after a spe- cial meeting of Haryana Cabinet con- vened late evening yesterday after the incidents occurred on the occasion of Republic Day. He said that the whole cabinet is unanimous that people of the state together fail the nefarious inten- tions of anti-social elements and coop- erate in maintaining peace and harmony in the country and the state. Mr Manohar Lal said that no Indian can tolerate hoisting of flag other than national flag at the Red Fort. Kharar based Industrialist bags prestigious J&K award SHASHI PAL JAIN KHARAR: Noted Industrialist having roots in Kharar, Suraj Ku- mar Bansal has been given the prestigious award for Industrial Entrepreneurship by the government of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. DALJEET AJNOHAHOSHIARPUR, JAN 27

Urging Centre to immediatescrap three contentious farmlaws, Punjab TechnicalEducation, Tourism &Cultural Affairs and Em-ployment Generation Min-ister Charanjit SinghChanni on Tuesday de-manded that these anti-farmers laws be suspendedwithout any further delayin interest of country’speasantry.

Unfurling the nationalflag here at local PoliceLines Ground on districtlevel function of the 72ndRepublic Day, CharanjitSingh Channi pointed outthat the Centre should re-solve the issues of farmers’amicably instead of impos-ing farm laws forcibly onthem, which was nothingelse of sheer harassment forfarmers. Today all of us arecelebrating the historic day, when our Constitution im-plemented on January 26 in1950, but today we are fac-ing varied challenges to besafeguard the constitutionalvalues, said the Ministeradding that Agriculture is theState subject as per the Con-stitution and Centre shouldavoid its unnecessary inter-vention besides resolving

farm issues on priority basis.Reiterating that Punjab Gov-ernment is always stood bythe cause of farmers, Channisaid that Captain Amarinder

Singh led State Governmenthad already waived off farmloans to the tune of Rs 4610crore of nearly 5.63 lakhsmall and marginal farmersacross Punjab.

After unfurling flag, in-specting parade and takingsalute from March Past, theMinister while referring tomedia queries said that Pun-jab Government had alreadyinitiated tourism projectsworth Rs 500 crore. He saidthat with the completion ofthese projects, the tourismsector in Punjab wouldemerge as a leading destina-tion on the tourism map.

    BUREAUPATIALA, JAN 27

Asserting that his heart was withthe farmers today amid the Repub-lic Day celebrations, Chief MinisterCaptain Amarinder Singh on Tues-day said the Centre had deliberate-ly kept Punjab out of the high-pow-ered committee initially as theyknew that the voices of protestwould rise from here, and declaredthat “these voices will continue torise” till the farmers’ interests aresecured.

Punjab was included in thecommittee only after he personallywrote to the Centre on the issue, said the Chief Minister, making itclear that neither he nor his govern-ment were ever asked or consultedabout the black Farm Laws.

Appealing to the Prime Minis-ter to fulfil the demands of the agi-tating farmers, who are sitting atDelhi’s borders for the past twomonths, the Chief Minister said theFarm Laws are “completely wrongas they are against federalism, sinceAgriculture is a State subject underSchedule 7 of the Indian Constitu-tion.” Unfurling the national tri-colour here at Raja Bhalindra Singhsports complex, the Chief Ministerrecalled the contribution of BabaSaheb BR Ambedkar, who haddrafted the Constitution which re-mains the bedrock of the nation’sgovernance till date. Hoping thatthe Tractor March of the farmers to-day passes off as peacefully as theiragitation so far has been, the ChiefMinister said “old farmers are sit-

ting at the borders of the nationalcapital not for themselves but fortheir children and the future gener-ations.” Declaring that his govern-ment was with the farmers, he said,“Be peaceful, and the country iswith you.” He noted that 122 MPsin UK had spoken in favour of thefarmers and other countries hadalso supported the protests as thefarmers had been peaceful allalong. Captain Amarinder lamentedthat he never thought he would seea day when Punjab’s farmers, whohad made the nation self-sufficientin food by ushering in the greenrevolution and ensured that Indianever needed to beg for food underAmerica’s PL 480, would be for-gotten in this manner.

At one time, Punjab farmerswere contributing 50% to the foodbasket, and even now contribute40% of the total foodgrain, theChief Minister said, adding that“we can never forget what theyhave done for our country.” Withproduction now being carried out

also in Ganga, Narmada and Kaveribasins, the farmers of Punjab werebeing sidelined, said the Chief Min-

ister, adding, “God forbid a day willcome that Punjab would be neededby the nation again.”
