The Medical Imaging De- partment at Misericordia University recently held its annual Medical Imaging Se- nior Recognition Luncheon to celebrate the accomplish- ments of the graduating se- nior class and to induct stu- dents into the Misericordia University Alpha Chapter of Lambda Nu, the national honor society for the radio- logic and imaging sciences. Misericordia Univer- sity students inducted into Lambda Nu include Allison Beltz, Slatington; Courtney Fichthorn, Reading; Kait- lin Fink, Catawissa; Kelly Lynch, Avoca; Allison Mc- Intyre, Ashland; Jennifer Natishak, Browndale; Nicole Noss, Millville; Katie San- toro, Somerset, New Jersey; Nicolas Troller, Effort, and Cheyenne Wulff, Wyalusing. Lambda Nu has 182 chap- ters in 43 states across the country. Students in each of the chapters were eligible to apply for the competitive scholarships that are award- ed annually in the spring and fall semesters. The Misericordia Uni- versity Alpha Chapter of Lambda Nu was established in 2001. Membership to the honor society is based on an overall grade point average of 3.0 or better and enroll- ment as a full-time medical imaging student for at least four semesters. Students must also demonstrate evi- dence of professional com- mitment beyond the mini- mum program requirements; the pursuit or completion of an independent research project; be active members in the Misericordia Univer- sity Medical Imaging Club, and be involved in college- wide student committees and medical-imaging related activities. Collin Ennis placed first in 9th grade chemistry testing how various cooking methods change the vitamin C content in our foods. Katie Nguyen placed first in 9th grade chemistry. She synthesized her own biodiesel fuel in the chem lab and tested how it compared to commer- cial fuel. Our proudest moment was when Joe Piotrowski placed first, with a perfect score, in 11th grade biology. His proj- ect involved running a DNA extraction and polymerase chain reaction to detect GMO’s in foods that were labeled to be GMO free and organic. He also was awarded a $2000 scholarship, renewable for four years, to the Eberly Col- lege of Science at Penn State. Forest City Regional stu-dents had a wonderful show-ing at this year’s Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science State competition held May 15-17 at Penn State Main Cam-pus.

Lucas O’Neill placed second in 9th grade chemistry with a project testing the effective-ness of antacids.

Collin Ennis placed first in

Waymart HS 51st Reunion Sat., June 18

Waymart High School grad-uates, those who attended the school at one time and teach-ers will come together for their 51st Reunion on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the Regency Hotel Banquet Room, Carbondale.

Waymart High School’s last graduating class was the class of 1971-72. The students in Waymart and Lake Ariel came together in January 1972 to form the first class at Western Wayne High School, Varden. Waymart School stayed open for a number of years for el-ementary students while the Robert D. Wilson School was built. The building stood va-cant for a number of years and finally was taken down in the 1980’s. Wayside Park now stands on the site.
