A mere 22 days before Aberdeen’s sea-son opener against American Falls, 12-year head coach Cory Hollingsworth uprooted and moved to The Dalles, Ore. While Hollingsworth moved on, the sys-tem the Tigers ran under him remains the same — a triple option look that new head coach Jeff Duffin helped mold since Hol-lingsworth stepped in. And he’s got dual-threat senior Clancy Beck under center to operate it. “He’s a very athletic QB (who) has good speed (and) a good throwing arm,” Duffin said. For a triple option to work, the quarter-back must make instant decisions. One bad read can be the difference between a fumble and a touchdown. Behind Beck is sophomore speedster Hi-lario Carrillo, who will operate as the pitch back. Though he is the only sophomore on
a varsity roster made up entirely of upper-classmen, Carrillo’s ability makes up for his lack of experience. “He’s young, but he brings a lot of speed and is a really talented kid,” said offensive coordinator Derek Jolley. “His skill set is definitely one of the top on the team.” Then on the left side, anchoring the of-fensive line, are seniors Zack Copeland and Jake Deollos. Jolley believes the two line-men will be key for a functioning offense. With all these moving pieces on offense, it’s easy for mistakes to be made. But Jol-ley is convinced the individuals running it are quick enough — and smart enough — to keep the ball moving downfield. “The option is tough for the defense to defend because if everything goes as planned, no matter what the defense does, they’re wrong,” he said. And for the Tigers to climb out of the fog from last year’s 3-5 record after jumping
