Blanket Ministry - The blankets that we provided this year are fleece blankets that carry great meaning, for

each knot in the fringe symbolizes a prayer. One-by one the knots are tied by individual parishioners at the end of each service. One-by one the blanket recipient is lifted-up to God by a caring congregation. A blanket is freely and reverently offered to anyone in St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Community. To request a blanket, call the church office. A donation of $10 is accepted for those outside the communi-ty. We respectfully accept all inquiries regarding this Ministry in care of Mary Lambert, at [email protected]

Altar Guild – The Altar Guild is a lay ministry, a gift of time and talent. Altar Guild members are evangelists

and help keep the traditions of the Church and the beauty and timelessness for some of the coolest stuff in the Episcopal Church. We learn the reason for the names of the linens and vessels used in per-forming the Eucharist. Service on the Altar Guild requires only a few hours a month and usually one Sunday. New members do not serve alone but are partnered with one or more seasoned members for training and guidance. If you are interested in becoming a member contact Tom Majors, [email protected] or (405) 403-5041.

Lector – During worship, a lector is assigned to read the scriptures and lead the prayers. You must be baptized

to serve as a lector. Deb Hand is your contact if you would like to serve your Lord and your church in this capacity. You can reach her at [email protected]

You must pass an FBI background check to be eligible to serve in this capacity. Deb hand is your contact. You can reach her at [email protected]. (We’re kidding about the FBI.)

St. Mary’s Preparation to Move

We’ve begun the process of going through the building and looking for items that we WILL NOT be taking with us to the new church. Please understand it will take a while to finish this process, so we are sectioning off part of the Parish Hall to collect them. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING out of this area while these items are being collected.

The following individuals are responsible for overseeing and clearing out of items in the designated areas:

Parish Archives Deacon Nancy Bridges Library Sara Memmott ECW Items Ann Winzenread and Carol Smith

Tom Majors Altar Guild Lisa Jones Children’s Formation Ben Kenyon Archiving Documents Traci Hampton Flower Guild

Once we have gone through everything, we will invite you to bring items from your home for a garage sale. An email will be sent with more details about the sale. This is a good time to start spring clean-ing in your home for items to donate to the garage sale. (Do not bring your donated items to the church for the sale until a designated time has been set). Parish members will have first choice of any items they wish to pur-chase, and the proceeds will go towards the new building fund.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact Traci Hampton, [email protected] or (972) 333-7213.

ST. MARY’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH VESTRY MINUTES

June 18, 2019

PRESENT: Sr. Warden Andy Smith, Jr. Warden Mike Ryan, Jr. Warden-Elect Tim Bridges, John Harrison, Debbie Hand, Traci Hampton, Kyle Baker, Treasurer Ben Kenyon ABSENT: Father Mark Story, Bill Lambert, Mark McLochlin GUESTS: None I. MEETING Andy Smith called the June meeting of the Vestry to order. II. AMEND OR APPROVE MINUTES Minutes from the May meeting were reviewed. A motion was made by Mike Ryan to approve the minutes as amended, with a second by Tim Bridges. PASSED (1) III. FINANCE TEAM REPORT Ben Kenyon. a. May financials. There was an uptick in pledge payments for May with $32K in pledges received versus $29K budgeted. However, for the month we received less than half of what was budgeted for plate offering, which erased the gain in pledges. We are still substantially behind in terms of total pledged receipts year to date, $145K budg-eted versus $129K actual. We had a positive bottom line for the month because expenses were below budget. We are budgeted to take $40,000 off the balance sheet out of an unrestricted endowment for the year to pay operating expens-es. b. Balance sheet. Total assets of the church are $6,119,312. The deficit year to date is $23,421, which is the amount we will have off the balance sheet at the end of the year if we do not receive enough income to offset it (i.e., out of the EDO Unrestricted Fund). Of the $100,000 in the EDO Unrestricted Fund, $50,000 is corpus that cannot be taken without approval first, of the Vestry, and then the Bishop and the standing committee. c. Wells Fargo accounts. Year to date the value of our portfolio has increased $249K. The downside risk mitigation for the portfolio has demonstrated that we have a good mix of investments. d. New church finances. Total assets of the church are $6,119,312. The “all in” balance of the unrestricted and tem-porarily restricted funds available to build the new church is $3,985,746. Ben’s recommended balance of funds availa-ble to build is $3,670,929. The largest portion of the difference is $250,000 to be left in the Mosier Wells Fargo account as an operating cushion. There is also $55,000 of permanently restricted funds that are available to build the new build-ing. The capital campaign came up with pledges of $1,108,638. Ben is projecting a 4% shrinkage. There is $491K yet to be received after allowance for shrinkage and canceled pledges. Adding that to the money available from the balance sheet, we have $4,217,823 available for the new building. As of April 8, 2019 the construction manager’s estimate to build is $5,228,289. There are some options that will add to or reduce the cost, including $236K for the organ (this amount may be less) and $168K still due to the architect (which may come down). With all of the additional options factored in, Ben’s estimate of the variance to cash for the new building is $1,577,512. We have a preliminary loan com-mitment from Kirkpatrick Bank today for $550,000. Previously it had been estimated that the most we would need to borrow would be $1,250,000. If we borrow that amount we would still need $327,512. A loan in the amount of $1,250,000 can be paid for out of Mosier oil and gas revenue. The $1,250,000 will probably end up being closer to $1.6 million to cover the $327K shortfall. There will also be costs to move the road for the oil and gas lease and for the church move which are not included in these numbers. On average currently we are getting about $15,000 a month in oil and gas royalties. We should have sufficient income from royalties to make payments on a $1,250,000 loan, and probably more, depending on the future price of oil and production. Ultimately, we will probably need a loan for $1.75 million and we need to be able to demonstrate that we can service that loan. Motion to approve the financial report made by Tim Bridges, second by Deb Hand. Approved (2)

V. SENIOR WARDEN’S REPORT a. The architect is saying that we should have City Council approval for the building on September 9. The site plan goes to the planning commission on August 20, and then goes for approval by the City Council on Septem-ber 9. We will be able to get the building permit once the site plan is approved by the City Council. b. There were about 20 people at the newcomer gathering two weeks ago but most of them were not new people. Andy is open to new ideas on having a newcomer gathering in the fall. Some ideas are a game night (board games, card games), or a casino night, to attract younger families. c. We are not having vacation Bible school this summer. d. 20 people came to the Dodgers baseball game. We might want to consider some other activities for the sum-mer, like possibly a movie night. Maybe meet for supper and go to the movie afterwards to make it a social event for families. VI. JUNIOR WARDEN’S REPORT Mary Lee Lane house. That work is being done to mitigate the mold. Sheet rock has been removed in the utility room. The last renters left the house in a mess. They won’t get a deposit back. The house will be ready to put back on the market in July. V. OLD BUSINESS/NEW BUSINESS Tim said that the church directory is now on the website and is password-protected. The password is Holyspirit. There was a discussion about the need to provide disability insurance for church employees and a discussion of the various options. Ben noted that Kay’s computer is old and very slow. We need to have it checked. Tim will talk to Bob Peterson and see if he can help with that or if he knows someone. Tim said there is no interest in using the church van anymore. Ben said that Marcia Robbins had a $30K life in-surance policy, that was designated to provide for the Whole in One ministry and to provide transportation for it. Part of that money was used to pay for the church van. When we sell the van we will put the money back in that fund. There is $15,000 in the fund now. Selling the van will get rid of $3000 a year in maintenance. Motion to sell the church van made by Traci Hampton, seconded by Deb hand. APPROVED(3). Tim will look into selling it. No further business being brought forward, following prayer, the meeting was adjourned. Submitted,

John Harrison, Clerk

PRESENTATOIN ABOUT UCO’S CRISP

UCO sponsors a program to engage international students with local families. This program, CRISP – COMMUNITY RESPONDING TO INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS PROGRAM – pairs an international student with a family to exchange some cultural activities. The University provides a lot of the activities so that it is really easy to spend some cultural time with a student. They provide things like a Halloween pumpkin carving, a Thanksgiving dinner, a Christmas light show, bowling, a zoo visit….and other events. The Daughters of the King are sponsoring a CRISP presentation after the 10 am service on Sunday, August 11. It will last about 20 minutes. Come and join us for a few minutes to learn more about this program. We believe it is an excellent opportunity to love others in our community. The CRISP program tries to respond to your preferences, such as country of origin, gender, older vs. younger, and other characteristics you might desire. We look forward to seeing you in the Library after church on August 11! For further information, contact Linda Mason.

Saints and Sinners

The Saints and Sinners dinner groups will start up in the fall (September) follow-ing a potluck dinner Sunday, August 25 at 5:00 PM. This is a great way for adults, whether newcomers or long-time parishioners, couples or singles, to get to know each other better through sharing fellowship and food. The groups meet in each other’s homes for dinner or can go out for a meal or any activity of their choosing. If you participated in Saints and Sinners from February through May, you will be automatically be included in the new fall groups. If you cannot partici-pate or you are new and would like to join a group or have questions, contact either Margie Bean (309) 397-1058 or Jackie Shields (405)286-6347 no later Sunday, Au-gust 4th. We look forward to another season of fellowship together.
