Before you complete the Audit Yarra Ranges Council, Maroondah City Council and Knox City Council are

committed to creating equal opportunities for women and girls to participate

equally in sport and recreation. Through a new initiative, Our Codes, Our

Clubs: Changing the Story to Promote Gender Equality Together, we are

working with local sporting clubs, to promote gender equality and strive to

prevent violence against women in our community. This initiative is supported

by the Victorian Government with the assistance of the Municipal Association

Of Victoria (MAV).

Why promote Gender Equality?

Research tells us that by promoting equal opportunities in life for both women

and men, violence against women can be prevented. Did you know that

Intimate partner violence is the leading contributor to death, disability and

ill-health in Victorian women aged 18-44.

Benefits for clubs who promote positive relationships include:

Being able to promote itself as a family friendly environment

Opening the door to potential funding opportunities

Opportunity to increase membership

Ability to attract and retain more volunteers

Why complete a Gender Audit?

This Gender Audit is a practical tool for your club to identify strengths and

opportunities for improvement to promote equality. This tool aims to assist

your club to look at different areas in your environment, and recognise how

you are going in relation to gender equality.

There are no right or wrong answers. The tool should be used as a

‘temperature check’ at a moment in time, and provide an opportunity for your

club to learn and discuss ways it can continue to create healthy environments

for women and men.

Gender Audit Results

Yarra Ranges Council, Maroondah City Council and Knox City Council will be

reviewing, analysing and storing your audit data. We are committed to

improving gender equality in sport and recreation. The data from this audit

may be used by us to develop other resources to support increased gender

equality.

The results will also be de-identified and summarised, and will help to assist

the Our Codes, Our Clubs project to plan, develop and evaluate the great

work happening in our community. This will be in-line with each Council's

privacy policy.

By completing this audit, you will go into the draw to win one of three

(one per Council area) $500 vouchers for sporting equipment.

If you or someone you know is impacted by sexual assault or family

violence, call 1800RESPECT on 1800 737 732 (24/7). In an emergency,

dial triple zero (000).

Club Culture

Respect between women and men is important to create healthy communities where everyone is treated equally. Sports clubs play a natural leadership role in the

community and provide a unique opportunity to shape attitudes. Many of the entrenched beliefs and behaviours that shape our culture are played out in sports

settings. Gender equality and respectful relationships between women and men help to create a positive culture where violence against women can be prevented.

Facilities

The provision, design and maintenance of infrastructure has a significant impact on the way people use public spaces. A sporting club’s facilities can limit the

participation of women and girls in sport. Planning and designing community infrastructure that is responsive to and respectful of the needs of women means

understanding how public spaces are used and finding ways to make them more inclusive.
