Shree Meghmani Parivar and Shree Bhailalbhai A. Patel (Detrojwala) Umiya Arts and

Commerce College was established in 1998 by Shree Umiya KVC education trust.

The vision of the college was to provide Higher Education to girls of rural and semi-rural

areas across Gujarat.

Considering the need for a Girls College, construction of hostel was the first priority, as

a result the hostel was constructed. Today, Girls from 149 villages and 59 semi-rural

areas are living in Hostel, who are paying very nominal fees and excellent quality

wholesome food as free for them.

We call our college as a „Temple of Light and Enlightment‟-

In span of just Twenty years, four times we were rated as The one of the Best College of INDIA.

The college tunes to impart and enhance quality education. Various initiatives are been

taken to continuously taken to improve Teaching learning process.

We focus on overall development of Girls. Their participation in Sports, External Events,

NCC, NSS along with regular students is monitored closely. They are encouraged to

participate in each and every activity. This has led to multifaceted development of their

inner talent, intellectual capabilities and overall personality.

We have very active student parliament consisting of 42 Class-Representatives and

Hostel-Representatives. We conduct a meeting on every Wednesday to discuss

attendance, teaching, grievances, facilities, activities and further plans. Due to this our

all activities are very successful and result oriented.

We inculcate sense of nationalism in them and make them a responsible global citizen

and conscientious human being.

I hereby acknowledge the contributions of the Management, all teaching and admin

staff members, our support staff, students, parents and alumni who have helped us in

our efforts to impart quality education and have contributed whole heartedly.

New Events at the Campus

▪ This year we got permission from Gujarat University to start Psychology,

Economics and History in Semester – 1. This has added to four subjects already

existing in B.A.

▪ Hostel students who come from 149 villages were given responsibility to ensure

100% participation of their village in participating in Lok sabha Elections. They

went door to door to take undertaking from each family.

▪ Students of semester 5 Sociology subjects formed a group of 10 students, who

went to Gota Slums on every Saturday and Sunday to teach children upto 5th

grade. They also taught them basic skills, game them lessons on swachhata and

celebrated all festivals with them. This has brought down drop out ratio of these

children from school. This initiative is called as „Vidya Vade Sau No Uday.‟

▪ We started 150th Birth anniversary celebrations from 2nd October, 2018. Various

lectures of Dr. Varsha Joshi on Gandhian thoughts and Ten Resolutions of

Mahatma were conducted. Several programmes like swachhata abhiyan,

painting competition, elocution, book exhibition, promotion of khadi and village

industries has also been done.

▪ In order to give obituary to Great Visionary leader of India Late Shri Atal Bihari

Vajpayee, we had organized poetry recitation competition of poetries written by

him. 35 students had enthusiastically participated in it.

▪ We had invited Motivational speaker & renowned columnist Shri Jay Vasavda to

deliver lecture on „Man ma Chhe Viswas To Mutthi Ma Chhe Aakash.”

▪ This year students celebrated Raksha Bandhan differently. They tied Rakhis to

450 traffic police personals. They also gave them hand written cards appreciating

there efforts. They also tied Rakhee to Commissioner of Police Shri A.K. Singh.

▪ We had invited Ms. Gabriells Fodor – H.O.D. of Communication and International

relations – University of Buddhapest to deliver lecture on Communication Skills.

▪ Ex-president of ICAI, CA Devraja Reddy had visited our campus.

▪ We had organized two workshop for faculty development. Ex-principal, and

Advisor of KCG Shri A.K. Pancholi was invited to discuss developments and new

methods of Teaching and learning and Shri Padmin Buch was invited to conduct

a session on Intellectual Property Rights.

▪ We signed MoU with Institute of Computing Accounts to conduct Course on „TALLY‟ for Semester – 3 Commerce students.

▪ We conducted 7 days short term course on beauty parlor. 300 students took part in it.

▪ We had arranged for week long Foundation course in English Grammar, for

students enrolling in B.A. and B.Com

▪ We invited Smt. Jyotiben Pandya to deliver motivational speech.

▪ We received Grant from K.C.G. to start Finishing School for Semester – 6

students. Training was given by Shri Uday Dholakia and Shri Viashnavi Dholakia.

▪ As a part of CSR activity Tata Consultancy Service had given six month training

to third year students of Communication skills.

▪ We started initiative to educate Girls against sexual harassment. We prepared &

distributed pamphlets about of 3R‟s – Recognize, Resist and Report.

▪ We had arranged Resume writing workshop for Third year and M.Com. students

– Shree Uday Dholakia was invited as a trainer.

▪ We had invited Dr. Habibullah Shah from University of Kashmir to deliver lecture on

„Arts Education in Gerating Empowerment‟.

Departmental Activities

Department of English-

▪ Dr. Harit Patel was invited to deliver lecture on „Loan Worels‟

▪ Arranged one week orientation for Semester – 1 students

▪ Attended seminar on „Book Reading‟ at Shri H.K. Arts College

▪ Invited Ms. Sheetal Panchal to deliver lecture on „Entrepreneurship and Women‟

▪ Taken 9 students to R.J. Tibrewal Commerce College to attend National Seminar.

Department of Sociology-

▪ Invited Prof. Hetal H. Trivedi from S.L.U. Arts and Comm. College to deliver

lecture on Social Geography of Gujarat

▪ Taken students to visit Gandhi Ashram and NGO-Dharti Vikas Mandal.

▪ Projects on “Caste in Rural Community”, “Social life of Gujarat‟s Tribal”,

“Sociologically Study of Sweepers” in Gota areas, “A study on working women of

primary schools”, “Sociological study of sola Civil Hospital”, “Social change in

Rasceri Caste” & Soico Economic survey of Khoraj village were prepared by

students.

Department of Hindi-

▪ Organised one week orientation programme for Semester – 1 students

▪ Organised various competitions to celebrate Hindi Week

▪ Shree Yogeshbha Ghadhvi was invited to deliver lecture on Gujarat Aur Hindi

▪ Smt. Pooonam Vajapayee was invited to talk on life story of Atal Bihari Vajpayee

▪ Participated in Hindi day Rally from Rashtrabhasha College to Gujarat Vidhyapeeth

▪ Invited Dr. Bindu Bhatt to deliver lecture on “Narivadi Sahitya”

▪ Invited Dr. Kameshwar Singh to deliver lecture on “Sahitya Mein Adhunik Bodh”
