Packing Tips for a Smooth Move

Moving your home can be a stressful process and most likely can be time consuming. Proper

planning can eliminate many of the common issues that will come from household moves.

Having an organized moving checklist from the beginning of the move can help you plan your

move and make sure you don’t leave out any important details when packing your home office,

living room or kitchen.

Take a look at some of the moving checklists as well as tips on how to pack your household and

office items with ease, while moving. These moving tips will help you and guide you step-by-

step through the moving process.

Packing your Living Room

When packing any electronic item, consult the manual first for moving directions. It is advisable

to pack your electronics in the original boxes they came in; you can also purchase special

electronics boxes. Pack your largest electronic item in the box first. Fill any empty spots beside

the item with anti-static packing material. Place smaller electronic items on top and continue to

fill gaps with packing material.

You may feel more comfortable hiring professional packers to pack your framed items, but with

the proper supplies and preparation, packing pictures, frames, art, and mirrors is easy to do

yourself. Mask the tape across the front glass surface of the mirror or art. Line an empty picture

box with blank newsprint for added cushioning. Wrap the piece in blank newsprint. If space

allows, group two pictures or mirrors in each picture box. Face the glass sides toward each other,

with some newsprint in-between to strengthen the empty space. Particularly valuable mirrors and

artwork should be boxed separately.

Most of us don’t give books any special consideration while moving. Whether you are moving

old textbooks or paperback novels properly packing your books will prolong their shelf life and

prevent unneeded damage. Packing books is relatively easy and takes very few resources; all you

need are small boxes, blank newsprint and packing tape. The Moving Boxes should be small as

paper is very heavy, large boxes filled with books would be very difficult to move.

Your computer needs special care during the moving process. Not only is computer hardware

valuable, but data is often irreplaceable. Computers are delicate electronic devices and you

should make sure that they are safely packed, and your important files are backed up.

Packing Your Kitchen

Place the appliance and accessories in the box. If there is extra room, pack more appliances or

fill up extra space with durable items like utensils or pans. Plate cell packing kits are provided by

moving companies and have simplified packing plates. These kits provide all the supplies and

instructions you need for safely packing your plates for the moving process.

While packing pots and pans take the largest pot or pan and place a large piece of newsprint over

the opening. Nest the smaller sized pot within the first, pushing down the newsprint. Continue to

follow the same steps until you've nested a few together. Place the entire bundle on a large piece

of newsprint. Bring the corners of the newsprint up to wrap the entire set and seal it with tape.

Put the nested pots in the box.

An important step in moving is hiring a moving company who you feel comfortable with. You

may need Self Storage Rental at some point in your move. While pricing for storage is fairly

simple, keep in mind the various factors that contribute to the cost of your Storage Containers. A

little research will go a long way in finding the moving company that will fit your needs.
