Ofgem P272 Modification How changing to Half-Hourly

Settlement on your meter can benefit your business

www.energyteam.co.uk

What is P272 Modification and why is

it being introduced?

It forms part of the Smarter Markets Programme which is designed to make businesses more accountable for their energy usage

The modification will affect approximately 155,000 businesses in the UK

Those businesses that fall into the 05-08 profile class with Non Half-Hourly settlements will have to change their metering to Half-Hourly settlement

When will the P272 come into play?

Any new business contract or renewal for those in 05-08 profile class will have to run with Half-Hourly settlement from

the 5th November 2015

All affected organisations must have switched to HH settlement by 1st April

2017

Introduced 5th NOV 2015

Switching to HH settlements means charges are based on actual rather than estimated consumption

By having more accurate data about your energy consumption, you can make better decisions

Your business could be

saving money!ACTUAL CONSUMPTION

ESTIMATED CONSUMPTION

What impact will the P272 modification have?

Your business can better understand the factors that drive your energy usage

You can identify and respond to consumption outside of your normal tolerances

You are able to use accurate monitoring and up-to-date data to guide your future strategy

You enabled to review your consumption patterns and tolerances at any time

Your making the move away from peak charging times and making way towards lower energy costs

Five benefits of P272 modification

The role of Demand-Side Management for energy supply

All businesses using a significant amount of electricity should explore DSM in order

to combat spiraling third-party charges.

The National Grid are expected to buy between 30-50% of supply by 2020 and

invest roughly £400m.

This offers real opportunities for businesses; as either an income stream,  or to simply to become more efficient.

How an Energy Broker can help you out

Brokers can assist you with your meter change so you can pick the most suitable Meter Operator Contract and Data Collector.

They can collect data to establish the ‘shape’ of your consumption; is it smooth or ‘spikey’? Are the spikes in your energy consumption during high charging periods? Or is a machine being left on over the weekend?

They identify all the new data available on your consumption, highlight issues and inconsistencies, and indicate further opportunities for cost savings.

Brokers help source and negotiate the best energy contract for you. They use their additional knowledge and expertise to understand the ‘shape’ of your consumption and advise you accordingly.

They check that your business’s energy invoices have been filed correctly. Brokers also check for any non-energy charges because sometimes your bills can get more and more complex.

They give you pre-warning about Triads (November – February) where energy costs are higher.
