MATHEMATICSLaying a Strong Foundation
The mathematics curriculum aims to enable our pupils to:
1. Acquire mathematical concepts and skills for everyday use and continuous learning in mathematics;
2. Develop thinking, reasoning, communication, application and metacognitive skills through a mathematical approach to problem-solving;
3. Build confidence and foster interest in mathematics.
We hope that our Primary 2 pupils will experience meaningful and effective Math learning through the various programmes.
Mathematics Programmes @ Jiemin1. Activity Based Lessons (ABL)
In ABL, we provide opportunities for pupils to make use of the manipulatives to develop mathematical concepts andskills progressively from the concrete and pictorial levels tothe abstract level.
2. Factual FluencyPupils practice factual fluency to develop speed andaccuracy in number facts like multiplication tables of 2 to5 and 10. Factual Fluency is carried out through fun card games and online quizzes.
3. Heuristics PackageWe adopt a structured approach in teaching pupils problem solving skills. In Primary 2, pupils are taught to to use models such as part-whole, comparison, multiplication and division models to solve word problems.
4. Learning Support Programme for Mathematics (LSM)LSM is an early intervention effort aimed at providing additional support to pupils who do not have foundationalnumeracy skills and knowledge to access the Primary 2Math curriculum. Parents will be informed if their child isselected to be in the programme.
5. Math Recess GamesTo motivate pupils to master their basic Mathematics facts through interaction with their peers in a fun and non-threatening environment, reducing the fear of failures and errors.
6. Math Games DayProvide a platform for pupils to play competitively against their classmates. Through games, pupils are motivated to participate and develop positive attitudes towards Mathematics.
There will be NO EXAMS IN PRIMARY 2.

1. Providing a positive environment and acknowledging your child’s effort.
2. Monitoring homework, asking questions that guide without telling the answers.
3. Playing mathematical games / quizzes that reinforce memorisation of multiplication and division facts.
4. Encouraging your child to login to the Student Learning Space (More details will be given at a later date)
Mother Tongue Languages
2015 MTL Syllabus Focuses on:
• Strengthening the teaching & learning of interaction skills;
• A more systematic teaching of oral vocabulary& sentence structures; and
• Greater use of information & communicationtechnology (ICT) in teaching & learning of MTLs

1) Are CCAs compulsory for P2 and P3?
• No, CCAs are not compulsory for all pupils in JPS. We encourage our children to take on a CCA for them to discover their interests and enjoy a sport or club
2) Any selection for CCAs?
• No.
3) How are the children split into their Mother Tongue class for P2 this year?
• Based on pupils’ ability and performance in the subject
4) If there are no exams, are tests considered as exams?
• No, tests ≠ exams.
• No more weighted assessments in P1 and P2 that count towards a total score
5) If there are no more weighted assessments, how will my child be assessed?
• Based on Learning Dispositions and Learning Outcomes
• Qualitative descriptors are used to inform parents of learning progress for all subjects in the Holistic Development Profile aka report book
6) Without results, how will my child be promoted to P3?
• We look at the learning needs and styles of our pupils when sorting them into different classes
