What is COVID-19?

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a disease that was identified in late2019 and was declared a pandemic on March 11, 2020.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is an illness causedby a virus that can spread from person

to person.• The virus that causes COVID-19 is a newcoronavirus that has spread throughout

the world.• COVID-19 symptoms can range from mild

(or no symptoms) to severe illness. COVID-19 is most often spread throughthe air by coughing or sneezing and through close personal contact.

To remove mask touch only the ear loops, place in laundry, andwash hands immediately after removing.

PRECAUTIONS

Use EPA-registered household disinfectant. Clean surfaceswith soap and water and follow with disinfectant. Wear glovesand make sure you have good ventilation while cleaning.

ROUTINE CLEANING OF FREQUENTLY TOUCHED SURFACES

High touched surfaces include: Tables, doorknobs, lightswitches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards,toilets, faucets, sinks, etc.

What if you'reexposed toCOVID-19?KNOWN EXPOSURE

Students or employees who have beenin close contact with someone whohas COVID-19 must notify HealthServices. Exposed individuals will bequarantined for 14 days and tested ondays 5-7 after exposure.

What to do ifyou get sick?

A waiting room will be provided to studentswith COVID-19 symptoms in the Chapel of theProdigal (next to campus safety). This room willbe a holding area until quarantine/isolationarrangements have been made.

GO BAG

We recommended that students pack a “GoBag” in the event they need to be placed in off-campus quarantine or isolation.

What to bring in a “Go Bag”

Quarantine vs.Isolation

Isolation and quarantineprecautions are used tohelp stop the spread of

disease from one personto another. Montreat

College will follow CDCand State of NorthCarolina guidance

regarding isolation andquarantine protocols..

QUARANTINE

Separates andrestricts themovement ofpeople whowere exposedto a contagiousdisease to see ifthey becomesick.

ISOLATION

Separates sickpeople with acontagiousdisease frompeople who arenot sick.

Who needs to Quarantine?

EXPOSED

Students or employees with known COVID-19exposure will be immediately quarantined.

MONITOR HEALTH

Check Temperature Twice Daily &Watch for symptoms of COVID-19. If possible stay away from peoplewho are at a higher risk for gettingvery sick from COVID-19.

*Students should notify the Montreat COVID-19 Hotline

if exposed to COVID-19 or are symptomatic.

If they have laboratory confirmed COVID-19,they will immediately begin isolation at theirhome or campus provided isolation room. Ifthey are found to be COVID-19 negative, theywill complete the 14 day quarantine.

Those exposed to COVID-19 will quarantine intheir campus assigned housing or offcampus home for 14 days after the lastcontact with the infected individual and betested on days 5-7. 

Students or employees may discontinuequarantine if they remain symptom free for theentirety of 14 days. If they becomesymptomatic, they must begin isolationprotocol.

Duration of Quarantine

Who needs to Isolate?If students or employees have COVID-19 symptoms ortest positive for COVID-19, they will immediately beginisolation at their home or at a campus isolation room.

Asymptomatic individuals who test positive for COVID-19 must isolate as well. These individuals will receive

evaluation by a health care provider, COVID-19 testing,and illness management.

SYMPTOMATIC

Discontinue isolation if at least 3 days have passed since resolution of feverwithout the use of fever reducing medications, improvement in respiratorysymptoms, AND at least 10 days have passed since symptoms firstappeared.

ASYMPTOMATIC

Discontinue isolation after 10 days have passed since confirmed positive forCOVID-19, assuming the individual has not developed symptoms.

CONTACT TRACING

The Buncombe County Department of Health and Human Services(BCDHHS) will lead the contact tracing effort working with diagnosedpatients and close contacts. Close contacts will receive COVID-19 testing.Montreat College will collaborate and assist BCDHHS with contact tracingefforts.

Duration of Isolation

Everyone is at risk of contracting COVID-19.

Older adults and people of any age who

have serious underlying medical conditions

are at higher risk for more severe illness.

COURSES

Students participating in their courses virtually may still berequired to join the class at a designated meeting time.Students studying virtually will need to make sure theyunderstand individual faculty expectations for attendance andparticipation.

Faculty members who are high-risk or have immediate familymembers who are high-risk may choose to teach all of theircourses virtually this fall.

VIRTUAL LEARNING Any student who is high-risk or has

option to take 100% virtual courses for

fall 2020.
