With "food" as the theme, companies and organizations from all over Japan sold and did tasting of a wide variety of attractive products made with local specialties—seasonings, tea, alcoholic beverages, sweets, and more. In addition, we had theme zones again this year in order to shed light on small and medium-sized enterprises who are rolling out projects that are generating a buzz on the business scene. The special program zones had three themes: improving field capability, improving work style innovation capability, and improving management innovation capability. In keeping with these themes, leading SMEs in these respective fields exhibited in the three zones. In addition, "Special Business Meeting Sessions" and were organized to offer delegates opportunities to develop new business partners and create new possibilities for their businesses. One of the appealing elements of the International Industry Exhibition is that as well as offering a place for exhibitors to encounter visitors, it also offers abundant opportunities for new encounters with other exhibitors.

Questionnaire Result of Business ConditionsTOKYO INTERNATIONAL INDUSTRY EXHIBITION 2019 Implementation Report

Q1. Did you have a business negotiation during or after the Tokyo International Industry Exhibition 2019? (Quantity of response : 531)

Q3. [If you had business negotiation] Results of business negotiations during and after the exhibition

Q4. Please tell us about the good points, bad points, and any requests regarding the exhibition.

Good Points・ 15 minutes was rather short, but we gained valuable experience by giving a product explanation

on the substage. Some people visited our booth after listening to the explanation, so it was a very meaningful event.

・ We were able to exchange information with and promote our business to students and companies we don't encounter among our usual business connections, including ones from different industries. In addition, we were able to meet with company that could be our partner to work with in the future.

・ Unlike previous exhibitions,it was attractiv. People who visited our booth brought us some new customers, telling them we had good things to offer. Many people told us about companies we should sell our products to. We learned what kinds of industries need our products.

・ We had contacted by companies we probably wouldn't have heard from if we hadn't taken part in the exhibition. Taking part in the exhibition brought home to us the importance of promoting the activities and existence of the company. It's the exhibition we definitely want to exhibit again next time.

・ Having an opportunity to spend plenty of time talking directly with customers brought us better harvest than we'd expected. Also, the booth was spacious and the reception space and showcase were extremely useful.

Bad points・ Our products didn't suit the visitors, so everyone ended up just

taking a look at them without moving on to talking business.・ The exhibition was aimed at too wide a range of people, so

even though we had a lot of visitors, many of them were only interested in just taking a look for reference.

Requests・ I want the organizer to consider holding separate exhibitions

for the different types of industry. For example, an IT exhibition. I want visitors with clear purpose in mind to come.

・ There are limits to what exhibitors' brochures can do to attract people, and there are only a few really appealing companies that get many visitors, so it might be a good idea to have special programs and so on to attract more visitors.

・ Dividing the exhibition into categories by theme, based on what the products or services were about, would make it easier for visitors to understand. This would make it easier to successfully announce the event to potential visitors.

Interviews with ExhibitorsTOKYO INTERNATIONAL INDUSTRY EXHIBITION 2019 Implementation Report

After the Tokyo International Industry Exhibition2019, we visited and interviewed officials of three exhibitors, asking them about such matters as benefits of participation in Tokyo International Industry Exhibition, results of their participation, effective use of the event and messages to other exhibitors.

Our head factory is in Iwate. We used to work exclusively for major electronic component manufacturers, but have been working on diversifying our business for a while in order to deviate from that, and are currently developing six areas of business. We continue to participate in the Tokyo International Industry Exhibition because we want to actively use it as a way to help us develop these six areas of business. Since some of the visitors actually bring drawings to the exhibition, I regard it as an important business opportunity. We chose the Tokyo International Industry Exhibition from among many others depending on the reliability that it's organized by Tokyo Metropolis. Thanks to that, many companies from different industries take part, and the range of sectors is wider than other usual exhibitions. One of our objectives is to find new customers, but another major objective is to find new places to outsource our work to. The Tokyo International Industry Exhibition is somewhere we can achieve both. When the Great East Japan Earthquake hit in 2011, we lost our factories and everything else. Despite that, we've managed to grow to where we're now at least twice as big as we were before the earthquake. We couldn't have done it without all the support our customers gave us. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone.

- Message to other exhibitors -Since a wide range of visitors come to the exhibition, it's important for us to learn about our own products and services thoroughly, so we will be able to respond to inquiries from people from any field. Besides this, the questions from visitors are both learning opportunities and assets for our company. At the exhibition, we only get a limited amount of time to spend with visitors, therefore, all employees need to focus on the event so as not to waste the opportunity.

Business opportunities that are the fruits of persistence

Tadayuki Yoshida, or Manager of Tokyo Office, Rikohdenki Co., Ltd.

We are a software development company, with business ranging from planning and developing to operating smartphone applications, website systems, and more. In particular, we've been developing our business in the smartphone field ever since the iPhone first appeared on the market, and one of our strengths is having know-how that no other companies can beat. Also, we don't just create services that are specialized to certain tasks, such as personnel or payroll systems. Instead, we can create systems that don't exist yet starting from scratch, tailoring the design to the customers' requirements. We took part in the Tokyo International Industry Exhibition for the first time this year having visited the International Industry Exhibition 2018 Since we took partin another exhibition held next door to this exhibition at Tokyo Big Sight in 2018. What appealed to me about this exhibition was that it offers more freedom than others, and the participation charge is lower, too. Also, not specializing in certain tasks means it's difficult for us to find new customers, but since many people from different industries come to the Tokyo International Industry Exhibition, I thought I might be able to talk to some of them about system development if they were interested in the products we were exhibiting. That's why I took partin. There aren't many exhibitions where people from different industries gather together. Although we were taking part for the first time, the Administration Office supported us with things we weren't sure about, so we were able to feel at ease about exhibiting.

- Message to other exhibitors -The Tokyo International Industry Exhibition is a great opportunity to get to know people from other industries, so it's important to thoroughly prepare in advance and publish information so lots of people come to your own company's booth. The booth charge is also low, so it's easier for people who don't usually take part in exhibitions or haven't done so before. It is indeed very important to prioritize your main clients, but in order to grow in the future, it is also important to keep acquiring new ones. The exhibition fee for the Tokyo International Industry Exhibition is reasonable. Why not expand your business opportunities by doing a joint exhibition with your group companies or partner companies?

Exhibitor field : Healthcare/Welfare Zone

Our business uses Sticky Fabric, a material that sticks made using our patented processing technology. The fabric is all made in Taiwan—my home country—and is patented in the US, Europe, China, Taiwan, Japan, and many other countries. It's a highly original, unique material. After working for 15 years for a German trading company that imported European lifestyle goods and sold them wholesale to mail-order retailers, I started my own business in 2000 using the know-how I'd gained from mail-order retailing. Today, we provide and sell the Sticky Fabric as a material for a wide variety of products, such as lifestyle goods, clothing, and healthcare items. We also develop new products jointly with manufacturers, sell products online, and so on. We continue to take part in the Tokyo International Industry Exhibition because it offers us more opportunities to meet people from other industries and sectors than other, more specialized trade fairs do. This year, we exhibited in the "Healthcare/Welfare" zone, with a game kit that elderly people can enjoy at nursing homes as our main product. We introduced it to clients we'd met in the past and other visitors as well, and many people from a wide range of fields were interested in it, including companies that had been interested in our products before and new companies, too. We currently have a new business project in the pipeline, and are moving toward a commercial launch.

- Message to other exhibitors -It's a great opportunity to show what you do to people from a variety of companies, and not just ones from a specific field. Also, even if you don't see results you can measure year by year, you can still get new business opportunities from reconnecting with past customers. Therefore, I think the key is to keep exhibiting year after year.

Questionnaire Result by Visitors

A questionnaire was conducted on visitors in the course of the exhibition. The visitors consisted of business operators in various sectors, including mainly manufacturing, but also the public sector, service sector, buyers (trading company/wholesale), and the information and communication sector, to just name a few. Approx. 50% of the companies had less than 100 employees, reflecting the strong need for this exhibition among small- and medium-sized enterprises. Also, nearly half of the visitors hold positions with decision-making authority such as "manager/director" and "executive", which shows the high level of expectation people have for this exhibition. The majority of the visitors came to the exhibition for the purpose of "collecting information on technology and products". Approx. 90 % of the visitors responded to the questionnaire that they had accomplished their objective, which demonstrates that the exhibition was highly successful and satisfactory.

Good points・ At the Athlete Career Support Symposium, it was great to hear directly from

the people involved.・ It was fun to look at technology from lots of SMEs.・ I got to learn about products I'd never seen before.・ It was great that most of the exhibitors were SMEs. The exhibitors by local

government authorities were also amazing.・ The wide variety of products exhibited by the participating companies was

very stimulating.・ I wasn't planning to go to Mr. Matsumoto's talk, but I'm really glad I did. I

learned a lot from it.・ I saw how so many SMEs are developing and manufacturing great products,

and really felt their vitality.・ The layout was all in straight lines, so it was easy to walk around.

Requests・ It would be easier to see things if they were categorized by genre. (E.g.,

separate them into consumer products and B-to-B exhibits)・ It would be nice to have a place and exhibit to eat and drink.
