TRENT SAVILL Trent is a consultant therapist and the Director of Complex Care He has been working with complex and high-risk young people in the child-protection system for the last 15 years and since starting Complex Care in 2008 has been providing consultancy to the Department of Communities (QLD Child Safety) and Non-government sector intensive in-home therapy to children and families and training to carers and professionals Trentrsquos primary role now involves consulting with the Department and other agencies around their most complex cases and delivering training around the provision of therapeutic care for our most at-risk and vulnerable children

DR BRUCE HURST Bruce is an education consultant and researcher and lecturer at the University of Melbourne He has worked for 25 years in and with OOSH programs and is one of the few academic researchers who specialises in these important settings for school-age children Brucersquos research has provided new ways of understanding the experiences of older primary children in OOSH He has a deep commitment to childrenrsquos rights to speak be heard and have excellence in their play and leisure settings His work draws on postmodern theories of power and knowledge to provoke educators to re-think how they think about and work with children Bruce presents in a way that makes complex ideas accessible

TRENT SAVILL Trent is a consultant therapist and the Director of Complex Care He has been working with complex and high-risk young people in the child-protection system for the last 15 years and since starting Complex Care in 2008 has been providing consultancy to the Department of Communities (QLD Child Safety) and Non-government sector intensive in-home therapy to children and families and training to carers and professionals Trentrsquos primary role now involves consulting with the Department and other agencies around their most complex cases and delivering training around the provision of therapeutic care for our most at-risk and vulnerable children

DR BRUCE HURST Bruce is an education consultant and researcher and lecturer at the University of Melbourne He has worked for 25 years in and with OOSH programs and is one of the few academic researchers who specialises in these important settings for school-age children Brucersquos research has provided new ways of understanding the experiences of older primary children in OOSH He has a deep commitment to childrenrsquos rights to speak be heard and have excellence in their play and leisure settings His work draws on postmodern theories of power and knowledge to provoke educators to re-think how they think about and work with children Bruce presents in a way that makes complex ideas accessible

Gender in OSHC PlanningDuring this keynote presentation Bruce will look at the myths about children and gender explore gender stereotypes and gender based violence

He will look at some contemporary research about children and gender and who this all fits into OSHC as a site gender identity formation and what the educators role is in supporting diverse gender roles in OSHC planning and play
