FROM THE PRINCIPAL

The countdown to the end of year is ramping up for the students particularly in the senior years. Term 4 is critical for these students and all efforts are needed to keep them focussed on completion of all school work and planning for their next step. It is important for parents and carers to continue working closely with the school to ensure success for each young adult. Please be in touch with Stacey Stremouchiw if needed and keep our students eye on the main game and not the distraction of graduation and post school celebrations. Those things will take care of themselves.

We welcome Nicole Hyland back from her travels around Australia and she will resume her role as Deputy Principal in the school. This shuffles through the school with a couple of classes changing teachers for term 4. I endeavour to minimise teacher changes above all else unless it is unavoidable. Please welcome Nicole back and access her knowledge and skills as needed.

Also we have some personnel changes in our front office. Our most treasured ladies, Heather and Jan are out of the school for this term and will be replaced by Bronwyn doing attendance officer duties amongst other roles plus we have Jess Gould doing the receivables role. Please contact these ladies as needed understanding they are finding their feet for the initial part of the term.

Our school is celebrating our new status as an accredited International school. This year we have been assessed and approved to accept international students by the Department of Education – International Executive Director. This is a great recognition of the quality of schooling we enjoy and the staff and students working within our school. It entitles our school to accept students from abroad to join our school for part of their education journey thus adding new layers of cultural experience into the school.

The Malanda Chamber of Commerce has informed the school of the pending transportation through the town of the wind turbines headed for Mount Emerald. They will be passing through Malanda on the 9th October between 1 -3.00pm. Our school will be viewing their journey past the school for the students to see the incredible size and engineering of these machines. Parents are welcome to join us if you wish. Students will be given more information on parade this week.

I trust all parents received their child’s term 3 report cards prior to the holidays. Please take the time to discuss with your students and congratulate where necessary. I personally will be acknowledging the excellent results of many of the students on all aspects of the reports including results, attendance, behaviour and effort improvements. For those reports not collected they are available at the front counter of the office.

Good luck with term 4 and the lead up to Christmas.

Kind Regards

Gary Toshach Principal

Library Update This year as shown from the Infographic, our school library has been busy with lots of books being borrowed. However we still have a lot of books overdue, which means other students don’t have access to these. Please remind students to start returning books that are overdue or ask the students to renew the books. Overdue slips are going out to students for books that are overdue from Semester 1 and 2016. If these aren’t returned then invoices will be going home to try and be able to replace the books ready for next year’s borrowers. At the end of the term students are given a clearance form for the library to sign off on the form then all books need to be returned from the student. Please help support us in the library!
