OperatingYourLawnMowerOnce the engine has started, squeeze the bladecontrol handle against the upper handle to run thelawn mower.Do not operate the mower without the mulchingcover, the grass catcher bag, or the dischargechute properly installed.Be sure that the lawn is clear of stones, sticks, wire,or other objects which could damage lawn moweror engine. Such objects could be accidently thrownby the mower in any direction and cause seriouspersonal injury to the operator and others. For best results, do not cut wet grass because ittends to stick to the underside of the mower, preventing proper discharge of grass clippings, poor mulching conditions, and could cause you toslip and fall. New grass, thick grass, or wet grassmay require a narrower cut.For a healthy lawn, always cut off one-third or lessof the total length of the grass. Lawn should betrimmed in fall as long as there is growth.

WARNING: If you strike a foreign object, stop the engine. Remove spark plug wire fromspark plug, thoroughly inspect the mower forany damage. Repair the damage beforerestarting and operating the mower. Extensivevibration of the mower during operation is anindication of damage.

BaggingGrassClippingsYou can use the grass catcher bag to collect clippingswhile you are operating the mower.

Attach the grass catcher following instructions onpage 8 of this manual. Grass clippings willautomatically collect in the bag as you run mower.Operate mower till the grass bag is full.Stop the engine completely by releasing the controlhandle. Make sure that the unit has come to acomplete stop.Lift discharge door and pull grass bag up and awayfrom the mower to dispose of the grass clippings.

Usingthe MulcherFor effective mulching, do not cut wet grassbecause it tends to stick to the underside of thedeck, preventing proper mulching of grassclippings. New or thick grass may require anarrower cut. The ground speed should beadjusted to the condition of the lawn. If mowing hasbeen delayed and the grass has been allowed togrow in excess of 4", mulching is notrecommended. Mow using the grass bag (if soequipped) to reduce the grass height to 3-1/4"maximum before mulching.

AdjustingCuttingHeightRefer to height adjustments section of this manual onpage 14for instruction on how to adjust the cuttingheight and the handle height.

For best results in mowing, keep the cutting heightposition high until you have determined whichcutting height is preferred.
