Thank youfor and congratulations on choosing the LoeweDigital-TV upgrade kit 2 T-Basic.

This integrated digital receiver module withdigital audio output enables you to receive avariety of free digital TV programs broadcastterrestrially.

This reception module also allows reception ofdigitally broadcast radio stations if this featureis offered by the station providers.

For coded stations you only need a CommonInterface module and a Smartcard from theprogram provider. Both are available from dealers.

Digital TV and radio stations usually offer notonly a better sound and picture quality thanconventional analog stations but also providenumerous additional functions which areexplained in this manual.

Please read this manual carefully andthoroughly in order to make the best possibleuse of all your receiver’s functions. You will findan explanation of the terminology used hereinat the end of the manual in the Index chapter.

General informationRange of stations

How many and which stations you can receiveessentially depends on your location and yourantenna system, e.g. roof antenna or indoorantenna.Ask your dealer to find out which is the bestantenna for your location.

The digital TV upgrade kit 2 T-Basic

offers you the following advantages:

• Analog and digital TV programs can becalled with just one single remote control.

• Support of Dolby Digital

• Support of EPG (the electronic programguide)

• The digital programs can be recorded witha VCR

• All terrestrially received digital and analogstations are shown in a station table

Welcome

Connecting antenna

Connect the antenna cable from the roofantenna to the antenna socket ”VHF/UHF IN”on the back of your TV set to receive digitallybroadcast programs.

An indoor antenna can also be used undergood reception conditions. Passive and activeroom antennas are offered commercially. In anactive antenna the power is supplied via theantenna connection ”VHF/UHF IN”.In the ”TV-Menu – Settings – TerrestrialAntenna” the supply voltage(5 Volt) must be set accordingly.

It is advisable to use an antenna withoutdirectional characteristic. If the location isoutside the normal transmission range, adirectional antenna (Yagi) can also be used toimprove the reception quality.

You can obtain more detailed informationabout receivable digital stations in your areafrom your dealer.

You can use an analog and a digital terrestrialprogram simultaneously. For this you need twoterrestrial antenna connections. You connectone antenna to ”VHF/UHF IN” (for digital TV)and the second antenna cable to the antennasocket ”VHF/UHF” (cable) (see the figure onpage 5).If only one antenna connection is available, youcan connect the two antenna inputs mentionedabove with an antenna splitter available as anaccessory from dealers.

If you have a ”picture in picture” tuner (PIP),the antenna signal also has to be fed to thistuner (plug plugged into the ”PIP” socket).

If you receive TV programs via the antenna andadditionally via cable, please connect the TVantenna socket (VHF/UHF/cable) to the cablesocket to be able to use analog cable programsadditionally.

Determining antennaposition and aligning theantennaFor optimum alignment or determination of thesuitable installation location of the antennayour TV set has an indicator for the signalquality C/N and signal strength Level.Ask your dealer on which channels andfrequency bands (VHF or UHF) digital TVprograms are broadcasted.Several digital programs are transmitted on onechannel.

Choosing a TV channel

1. Call the ”TV menu” with the MENU(M)button.

2. Select the ”Settings” line and confirm withOK.

3. Select the ”Channels” line and confirm withOK.

• If you receive a digital program, the signalquality C/N and the signal strength Levelis displayed by a black bar/numeric value. The antenna alignment or position is at anoptimum when as constant and high avalue as possible (large bar) is displayed forthe signal quality and signal strength.Align the antenna to a maximum bar/numeric value.

• If no signal is found in the set channel, thefrequency search starts automatically withinthe selected band (VHF or UHF).

7. Check other channels on which digitalprograms are broadcasted terrestrially inyour area one after another.Align the antenna using the weakest stationto as constant as possible and maximumbar/numeric value.

Possible cause and remedy

Activate the supply voltage, see page 4 chapter ”Connecting antennae”.

Optimize the position or alignment of the reception antenna, see page 4.

An antenna signal is unavailable. Possible causes:• The antenna cable is not connected or not connected to the right socket (VHF/UHF IN)• The antenna is not aligned correctly or reception is impaired (e.g. antenna iced over or

covered by snow, indoor antenna in wrong position, for an active antenna the supply voltageof 5 Volt is missing).

The stored station data are no longer available. Possible causes:• The program has stopped working.• The program has changed the transmission parameters.

Repeat the automatic station search.

1. To watch two programs at once or to watch one an record another, antenna signals must be fed toboth antenna connections ”IN VHF/UHF” and ”VHF/UHF”.

2. You are trying to watch two digital programs at the same time but you can only watch either twoanalog (in PIP) or one analog and one digital program simultaneously.

The selected program cannot be decoded because the Digital-TV upgrade kit 2 T-Basic is onlydesigned for receiving free TV programs.

The program is not available at present.

Important data are being stored. This may take a few seconds. Please do not switch the set off duringthis time.

Digital audio output (Dolby Digital) selected and activated. Make sure that you do not activate DolbyDigital during video recordings.

The digital audio output (Dolby Digital) is activated. Connect the audio output (S/PDIF) labeled DIG.OUT with an external AV receiver or change the setting in the Select Language/Sound menu (seepage 8 Status display).
