I'm pleased you took the trouble to come by and visit us on your way back home from Alaska. I hope you didn't have to go too far

KSYG 1" 02/09/95

Kermit Geary 1266 Riverview Drive Walnutport, Pa. 18088

Dear Mr. Geary,

This letter will serve to confirm your reception of KSYG-AM at 1010 kHz on 1/23/95 from 2:15am to 2:30am CDT. The programming details you described do reflect an accurate representation of what was broadcast at that time.

The KBIS facility is licensed for non -directional operation at 10,000 watts from local sunrise to local sunset. During the nighttime we transmit a directional signal at 5,000 watts utilizing a four tower array. The nighttime pattern is

an asymetrical figure -8 oriented roughly along a line ENE to WSW. During this particular test, the transmitter was switched to the ND mode and 10,000 watts. The switching occured a few seconds before and after the scheduled reception test. That is why many who have sent in reports have commented on the fact that before and after the test the station could not be heard at all.

To date 25 reception reports have been received. I have also received a number of requests for a list of those who have sent in reports for this test. As a courtesy to all, I have included the list on the next page.

Thanks for your report.

Sincerely,

Norm Laramee Chief Engineer KSYG-AM

KBOK REGIONAL RADIO FOR INDUSTRIAL HOT SPRING COUNTY

Dial 1310 1000 Watts Phone 1800

MALVERN, ARKANSAS

November 16, 1957

Mr. Kermit Geary R. D. 2, Box 298 Walnutport, Pa.

Dear Mr. Geary:

This letter is to certify your report on receiving and logging KBOK'

equipment test of November 4, 1957.

KBOK is located one-half mile North of downtown Malvern, Arkansas,

with studios and transmitter in the same building. The 1000 watt

transmitter is a Gates, as is all of our other equipment, includ-

ing console, turntables, etc.

Our BC -IF Gates transmitter feeds a six -wire open transmission

line which runs 865 feet to the tower, which is 215 feet high, and

is series excited.

The terrain around the tower is rolling, with the tower itself in

a large depression, and a small creek runs alongside the base of

the tower.

Malvern is located about five miles from Magnet Cove, Arkansas,

where the mineral concentration is so abundant as to make it world

famous as geological phenomenon. Hot Springs is 22 miles due west.

We mention the terrain and the minerals because they undoubtedly

play some part in the strength of the signal from KBOK.

Sincerely yours,

Thomas O. Graves, Chief Engineer

Dear Kermit,

Thank you for your kind letter of having heard K B T A during its frequency check on the morning of February 3rd, 1951, between the time of 1:55-2:12AM.

We are always pleased to know that K B T A is being heard so well at such distances from Batesville:

I'm sure you will forgive us for being so slow in answering your well -received letter of reception; but we have so many of this type that it keeps us pretty busy.

K B T A is R C A -equipped, with exception of a Gates Limiter. The Transmitter is a BTA-250-L, 250 Watt AM, 807 Xtal-Osc., 828 Buffer, PP 810's RF PA, 828's in class "B" as modulators, ¡ wave vertical antennae, coaxially- fed. We are affiliated with MBS, AP, Thesaurus library, etc.

Here's lot of luck in the future relative to logging BC stations, to you, Kermit:

I used to log "Ham" stations many years ago, before I, too, became one of them.hi...If you are a "Ham" op, give a listen on 20M or 75M 'fore for WSKKV, which is my call, and I'll be very happy to shoot the breeze with you.

Thank you very much for your report on the test we ran on

October 2, 1967 from 2 to 3 A.M. C.S.T. Please accept our

apologies for being so late in answering your letter but we

were waiting for a new brochure that the Chamber of Commerce

is preparing on our city, but as yet no brochure.

KDDA operates from local sunrise to local sunset CST with

a power output of 500 watts from a 100' tower on 1560 KC. We

went on the air on April 21, 1966 therefore are relatively new.

We use a Gates BC -1F transmitter cut back to 500 watts, we also

are non -directional.

Dumas is located in Southeast Arkansas ninty miles from

Little Rock on U.S. highway 65 in the heart of the Delta Country.

Our chief livelihood is farming cotton, rice and beans but also

have several industries located here.

Your report checks out correct and verified by us. Thanks

again and if you are ever down this way don't hesitate to drop

in for a visit. You are always welcome.

P.S. Mail received on this test was very gratifying. We

received approximately 50 letters, the most distant points

being California, Washington, Rhode Island, Florida and two

November 13, 1954

Thank you very much for your EXCELLANT report on our stations frequency check on the night of Nov. 2. 1 have never received a more complete, accurate and well written report of reception.

Your report is actually more accurate, porbably than our log because I had to do the announcing, juggle the meters and try to keep log at the same time and may have made a number of mistakes on timing.

We are using a Gates layout throughout, and pushing about 250 Watts into 253 feet of vertical "scrap iron". We are getting 83e efficency out of our final stage which is very good. But what I cant figure out is how you knew! Located about one mile north or Warren, we are on top of a slight rise and our ground system is good as hill- top ground systems go. We have been in peration about a year and three months now.

You seem to have a good layout for listening 0.M. I have an old HRO myself and it is just about as sharp as the later models as far as I can tell. I used to listen to the bands quite a lot myself but just dont seem to have the time anymore, in fact I am just now getting around to answering your QSL. In case you are a ham you might look me up on "80" some time, the handle is

W5DTF, formerly of Corpus Christi, Texas.

Kermit, I am going to add your QSL to the stations collection as about the most DX we have received so far. 1 would like to thank you once again for your very fine letter and I will be more than happy to hear from you at any time.

Thank you for your letter of March 29th, stating that you had good reception of KRKN during our equipment test broadcast on that date. Your report as shown in your letter is correct.

Present plans schedule our "on the air" date as April 15th, and as there are two other new stations in Fort Smith, one of which is still in the process of being built, considerable interest is being shown in our opening. Our studios are the very finest and most modern yet for a station of this size, and if you are ever in Fort Smith, we would be glad for you to pay us a visit.
