At this year’s Leadership Summit I was really impressed with the presentation by a young woman named Jessica Jackley. She is the co-founder of Kiva.org, the world’s first peer-to-peer online micro lending website. Kiva allows individuals to lend as little as $25 to specific entrepreneurs which pro-vides capital to help them start or expand a small business. The New York Times Magazine named Kiva.org as the top idea in 2006. The concept of Kiva was so intriguing to me that I went online that night to find out more about it. At that website I found pictures of people in developing countries. They told briefly what their busi-ness was and how they would use the money you loaned them. Most of the requests were from $200 to $2,000 . And even though that amount seems small in our eyes it allows that person to ex-pand his/her business and overcome poverty. It was the old adage that I have heard so often- “Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you will feed him for a lifetime.” After the Leadership Summit those who attended gathered to discuss the ideas presented there. We thought that one of the things we would like to implement in our church was Kiva. Dear Church Family -

Thank you so much for your cards, flowers,

thoughts, prayers and sympathy for my

mother, Alice Pickett. I appreciate you all so much. A special

thanks to Pastor Chris for doing the service. You all are special.

Thank you for helping us all through this difficult time.

Sincerely, E.J. White and the Alice Pickett Family

To the Pastors and Congregation

of First United Methodist Church-

I want to thank you with all of my heart for your

thoughts and prayers during my fight with lung cancer. As

I am sure you know, the surgery went great, our Prayers

were answered. The Power of Prayer is beautiful.

I have an appointment Thursday with an oncologist, as

the cancer has gone outside the lung. I believe in Miracles,

God wants us to live long lives and spread the wonderful

news of His healing. I am standing on His Word.

I ask you to continue to lift me up to the Lord as I con-

tinue my journey. May God bless each of you.

Love, Johnna Mowry

We’d like to pass it along to everyone!

CHICKEN MIX: Heat 2 tbs. canola oil in a saute pan. Add four minced garlic cloves, 1/4 of a yellow onion

diced, and 2-3 tbs. of grated ginger with the peel removed. Cook until onions are translucent. Add ground

chicken, cook through, set aside.

SAUCE: Heat 1-2 tbs. oil in a pan, add 6 slices of ginger, allow to steep in the oil a few minutes. Add 2 tsp.

sugar, 1/4 cup hoisin sauce, and 2 tbs. soy sauce. Cook until sauce thickens. Remove ginger slices. Add

sauce to the chicken mix and stir to coat.

GARNISH: Drain rice noodles, add some soy sauce to darken and for some salty flavor. Dice the green on-

ions. Cut out the core of the lettuce, slice it in half, discard the first couple of layers. Separate the lettuce

into pieces to use as cups.

Fill lettuce cups with 2 tbs. noodles and 2-3 tbs. chicken mix, garnish with green onions. Wrap and Eat!

As with many recipes, spices can be adjusted to your personal taste!

Trailblazers News Please plan to join us for fun, food and fellowship on Thursday, October 8th at 11:30am, for our monthly potluck luncheon. Share

with us your favorite main dish or dessert.

We are very fortunate to have Steve Whitaker,

bringing us a message from Tulsa’s

“John 3:16 Mission” (For God so loved the world………)

This mission has been a vital part of Tulsa since 1952, their ministry is “Reclaiming Lives; Restoring Hope” and this cannot be

done without volunteers. There are so many opportunities for each of us to serve. They have two ministry locations that offer a

chance to get involved and help make miracles happen for hundreds of people every year. Whether it is helping to serve hot meals

to hungry people from the homeless community of Tulsa, helping to sort donations, sponsoring a sock drive or raising funds at

your church or business, your gift of time will make a difference. Don’t miss this informative and heart-warming program.

Directly following our luncheon, we will be having an organization meeting in Room 100. We want your input as we plan the

trips and guest speakers for “2010” – Please join us!!

To all our volunteers that make our church work...there

are so many of you that work in so many different

ways...THANK YOU so much for your service. You are

the heart of the church!

Pumpkin Patch Outdoor Classroom - You Can Help! Outdoor Classroom Servants

It is that time of the year again and schools have been calling to book their class for a field trip at our Pumpkin Patch this Octo-

ber. Last year we had more than 2,800 students come through the patch with their class. This year we expect to be able to serve

the same amount, if not more.

Schools continue to book with us because of the many years of great programs that this Patch has been able to offer their students

and that is because of all of the wonderful servants that have donated their time, talents and smiles! If you have served before you

already know what a rewarding ministry this is and if you have not been able to serve in the past, but can this year, please join us to

make this year’s Pumpkin Patch another success for our community.

Contact Corrina Robinson at 272-5731 or via e-mail at [email protected] to find out more about how you can

serve in this year’s Outdoor Classroom or just sign-up to serve at the Pumpkin Patch Table located outside the church office.

We would like to sincerely thank everyone who helped with the Sunday Brunch to benefit the Brandon Magalassi Me-morial Scholarship Foundation. The success of the brunch was due to your never-failing willingness to help prepare and serve food, decorate, clean up, etc, etc. We would also like to express our appreciation to all who donated to help raise funds for scholarships. It is only through your generous giving that we can continue to raise awareness about teen suicide through scholarships and education. With grateful hearts, The Board of the Brandon Magalassi Memorial Scholarship Foundation

Bible Time Quiz Kids (2nd -5th Graders)

We kicked off our first season of the Bible Time Quiz Kids Games here at First United Methodist Church of Owasso and

it went off with a BANG! The kids really enjoyed the high impact Bible memory game and are excited to learn all of the

Bible Facts so that they can help their team win the various competitions that happen up in God’s Gym on Wednesday

Nights. If you have not yet had a chance to check out this new program, we invite you to join us! It is never too late to

join in to this game and learn Bible Facts in a very fun and exciting way! We meet every Wednesday night at 6pm up-

stairs in the Children’s Area. Come and join us in the fun!
