Aims of Cub Book Review Team
1) Review contents of Cub Book
2) Review the Cub Program
3) Review the Leader’s Resource Book
4) Produce a report to the Training Commissioner
Review of Cub Book
A questionnaire was issued by the team to all groups to be distributed to all leaders involved in the section.
The response to this call was poor with only 22 leaders answered which came from 7 different Groups
The review team also analyzed the Cub book an came up with their own conclusions.
Observations from the Team
Lack of knowledge of how program should work
Leader / child ratio in some groups make program difficult to be conducted in an effective manner
Only few children finish Gold Arrow
Certain topics might need revision or removed altogether.
The different cycles in different arrows were confusing the leaders

According to the survey, the outcome was that there are no problems whatsoever with the following lectures

Jungle book to remove some text and the story to be represented by Pictures.
Good Deeds to remain as is in Tender Paw but to be removed from Bronze Arrow.
National Identity to remain in Tender Paw.
Bronze Arrow Analysis (1)
According to the survey, the outcome was that there are no problems whatsoever with the following lectures
No or little problems identified. Will remain as is
Bronze Arrow Analysis (2)
Problematic Areas Identified
Bronze Arrow Analysis (3)
Tracking Signs - To be improved by adding captions to pictures of what pictures represent.
Good Deeds – To be removed from Bronze Arrow.
First Aid – too complicated for 7-8 year olds, to be removed from Bronze Arrow.
National Identity – To improve by adding pictures of National Bird etc.
Bronze Arrow Analysis (4)
Dealing with Emergencies – This will be removed from Bronze and done in Silver.
Scouting History – To improve by including Pictures.
Pack a Rucksack – To change name to Pack a Backpack to reflect contents.
Knotting – to Include details of why knot is used.
Highway Code – To include some pictures as in country code
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – To change content and to be renamed “Our Environment”

According to the survey, the outcome was that there are no problems whatsoever with the following lectures

Problematic Areas Identified Personal Challenges –
Leaders are allowed to use their imagination and allow children use their animation with regards to Handcrafts, Animation and Communication
Silver Arrow Analysis (3)
Campsite Safety – This will be moved to the Gold Arrow.
Safety at Sea – This was revised (the reach section was removed).
Compass – Contents slightly revised last part of which has been moved to Gold Arrow.
Air Pollution – Contents revised and renamed as Our Environment.
Silver Arrow Analysis (4)
Nature Hikes – Lecture remains in Silver Arrow however some content was amended.
Faith – Large Discussion, this was eventually removed
First Aid – Contents too difficult for child, was removed and replaced with Dealing with Emergencies
Our Country – Some change in wording made.
Gold Arrow Analysis (1)
According to the survey, the outcome was that there are no problems whatsoever with the following lectures
Gold Arrow Analysis (2)
Problematic areas identified

Camp Safety & Hygiene – Moved to Silver Arrow.
First Aid- Too complicated (and dangerous) for a child. Revised.
Making Choices – it was decided that this lecture will remain as is as it helps the child in his stages of development.
Faith – to remain as is
Gold Arrow Analysis (4)
Personal Challenge – Leaders are to allow children use their imagination with regards to Handcrafts, Animation and Communication.
Protect our Sea & Land – Content was reviewed and renamed to Our Environment.
Our Country – Wording was revised.
Local Animals & Flora – Contents were revised and simplified
Gold Arrow Analysis (5)
Star Constellations – After long discussion it was decided to leave lecture as is.
Cloud Formations - After long discussion it was decided to leave lecture as is. Captioned pictures with the name of the clouds and what type of weather they bring will be added.
Proficiency Badges
It was decided that the Proficiency Badges will be divided into to Groups
Proficiency Badges Must be done individually
Interest Badges Can be done in a group
Conclusion
The results has basically shown what was being questioned by the Team
The results were straightforward in most instances.
Action was done to tackle directly the problem Changes to content Forum to obtain first hand information from
Leaders Cub Book soon to be finalised.
Need to do the proof reading
