  • Over the next couple of weeks, pick a project to work on at home. Be creative and enjoy!

Ask an adults permission before you start a baking or science project.

    MATRIX

    Topic: Active Planet

Cut out images of volcanoes/or other natural

disasters and create a giant collage with

    information as well as pictures.

    Topic: Active Planet

Make your own volcano! Use any

materials you want, the bigger the better!

    Suggestion: Use recycled materials!

Many famous artists are well known for their

self-portraits. Take a look at yourself in the

mirror and have a go at creating a self-

portrait. You might use paint, pencils, felt tips,

    whatever you have!

    Topic: Active Planet

    Write a non-chronological report about

different volcanoes around the world. Draw or

cut out pictures to go along with your informative

    writing.

Keep a diary. Write about your day,

every day. You may write about anything

you want. It is your diary! Below are some

questions you may want to answer, but it

    is your choice.

 What did you do today?

 How much work did you do?

 How much fun did you have?

     How are you feeling?

    Create a family tree

Ask members of your household to help you

piece together a family tree. How far back in

your family history can you go?

Research and write an account about what

happened to the people of Pompeii.

Watch videos and use the internet to get more

    information.

Create a travel brochure for Hawaii/

Tahiti. Include pictures you find online, or

draw your own. Make it persuasive!

Using PowerPoint, create a slideshow all

about you! Have a go at using different

    fonts, background colours and experiment

with transitions! But, include lots of

    information:

     Do you have siblings?

 What is your favourite food?

 Do you have a hobby?

 What is your favourite colour?

 Do you have any dislikes?

    Make a homemade lava lamp!

    What you need:

    Flask or bottle

    Vegetable oil

    Water

    Food coloring

    Alka-seltzer/Vitamin

    C tablets

    What you do:

    1. Fill the flask most of the way with vegetable oil.

    2. Fill the rest of the flask with water. The water will sink to the bottom under the oil.

    3. Add a few drops of food colouring; your choice of colour. The food colouring is water-based, so it will also sink and colour the water that is now at the bottom of the flask

    4. Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet into a few small pieces, and drop them in the flask one at a time.

    5. Watch your lava lamp erupt into activity! As the reaction slows down, simply add more Alka-Seltzer.

There are lots of interesting mystery

science lessons, but here are two that

    we found interesting:

How can you keep a house from blowing

    away in a windstorm?

Could a volcano pop up where you live?

    Topic: Active Planet

Can you make your very own volcanic

eruption? Have a look online to see how to

do it, below you will find the ingredients.

 10 ml of dish soap  100 ml of cold water  400 ml of white vinegar  Food colouring  Baking soda slurry (fill a cup about ½

with baking soda, then fill the rest of the way with water)

     Empty 2 litre bottle

What do you predict is going to happen?

    How does the eruption work?

How is it similar to a real volcano?

    Write a set of

    instructions to go

    alongside your

    experiment.
