They say that strong relationships can build bridges and move mountains. mcKissack & mcKissack has spent over 100 years forging bonds that have allowed us to improve communities, while quite literally moving bridges and building structures across the country. A family-owned business for more than 100 years, mcKissack has been a progressive industry leader in the planning, design, and construction of more than 6,000 projects, proudly upholding the standards of excellence established by our forefathers. in 1968, william mcKissack—the son of moses iii—took the reins of the company and paired innovative ideas with exceptional leadership skills to further the legacy set by the men before him. Upon his retirement in 1983, his wife, Leatrice B. mcKissack, took over as CeO and oversaw over $300 million in design and construction work, until the turn of the century. Since becoming President and CeO in 2000, Cheryl mcKissack Daniel proudly carries on the tradition set forth by her ancestors, and understands the company’s responsibility to fuse commercial success with a greater benefit for the communities in which it builds. This is why, for five generations, mcKissack’s business strategy has been to foster long-term relationships with clients. The services provided by mcKissack do not start or stop with any amount of brick, concrete, or steel—mcKissack works as a single, integrated unit, overseeing projects from conception, through start-up and operation. mcKissack provides a wide range of services to government agencies, municipalities, private institutions, industries, designers and developers, and attributes our longevity and success to the talented, service-oriented professionals that comprise the mcKissack organization. Our goal is to serve clients by aligning a comprehensive management approach with strategic objectives. we take pride in our work, and are eager to utilize innovative, practical, and cost-effective solutions while undertaking new challenges. values of teamwork, quality and commitment have, and will always be, the keys to our continued growth and success for another 100 years and beyond.

missiOn statement Our mission is to leverage our knowledge of project and construction management, using our centuries-old legacy of fairness and integrity to deliver the best customer experience. we focus on creating growth and enrichment for our employees, our partners, and the communities where we work and live.

mcKissack & mcKissack is a company focused on people—those who work with our company, and those who will live, work and learn within our creations. it’s about more than the physical structures that we are hired to build because, without the people who give them life, what good would they be?Over 200 years ago, the mcKissack family patriarch planted the family’s roots in the construction business. The man, moses, was forced out of west Africa and into slavery at 12-years-old. william mcKissack—whose surname moses would later adopt—taught him to become a master builder and, eventually, moses earned his freedom and started a family in Tennessee. After passing down his knowledge and abilities to his children, a pair of his grandsons— moses iii (born in 1879) and Calvin (born in 1890)—began the business that still thrives today. moses iii started his own business in 1905 and was awarded a commission for the Carnegie Library at Fisk University—one of the first major American structures designed by a minority. He would go on to construct various churches, college buildings, and fine homes throughout the South. By 1912, he and Calvin were the first and second African-American architects registered in the United States.

People use sports and entertainment events as markers of time, fondly recalling first games, outings and concerts. Along the way, venues become as much a part of the experience as the spectacles themselves. experience has taught us that the best-laid plans balance the needs of the business while catering to the people who will create memories and experiences that will live on for generations.Fan comfort was of primary concern in the design and construction of Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field. The innovative, wing-like stadium roof serves to shield fans in the stands from the harsh elements that come with Pennsylvania winters. And when a makeover or expansion is needed, it impacts owners, employees, fans and enthusiasts alike. mcKissack is trusted to develop construction and sequencing solutions which mitigate and minimize impacts during major facility renovations and upgrades. we deliver solutions that maximize construction dollars by identifying potential efficiencies and savings, offsetting the cost of high-end features without sacrificing quality.

“ mcKissack isn’t a one-and-done company; they employ a team of healthcare specialists who consider every detail and advancement, ensuring current and future success.”

harlem hospital

we recognize the basic goal of healthcare facility development—to provide facilities that most effectively serve patients, caregivers and community needs. The ultimate goal of any healthcare facility is as basic as they come—to help people. And, as operating in the industry becomes increasingly more complex, healthcare professionals need to rely on experienced business partners to deliver results.even after the plans are drawn, walls are put up, and patients are admitted, our commitment to the project and our partners is far from over. That’s why we were proud to play an integral role in multiple phases of the Harlem Hospital major modernization project, providing services ranging from demolition and site preparation, building construction and phased renovations, to key participation in a community and workforce development program.mcKissack knows that the goal isn’t just about completing the project, it’s also about developing long-term relationships with the healthcare professionals and institutions who serve our communities.

mcKissack boasts a storied history of working with a myriad of municipal agencies, thanks in part to the company’s adaptability and wide scope of expertise.in 1942, moses iii and Calvin were awarded a $5.7 million contract to build an air base in Tuskegee, Alabama—at that time the largest federal contract awarded to a black firm. Later, because of mcKissack’s experience in designing housing projects across the country, FDr enlisted moses iii as a consultant on national housing issues.Since then, mcKissack has been called upon by local, state and federal authorities as a construction leader on hundreds of projects ranging from $1 million to $1.5 billion. Assignments have included work in the education, parks, recreation, transportation, civic, cultural, housing, corrections and water/wastewater sectors. For generations, mcKissack has been viewed as a company of great integrity and efficiency; a trusted and valued partner for government officials, focusing—together—on the overall betterment of our communities.

A centuries-old legacy of honesty, fairness and professionalism makes mcKissack the ideal candidate for any municipal project.Year after year, municipal clients from across the country trust mcKissack to manage their construction projects—not only because our experienced team understands the complexities of agency and government operations, but because we’re good stewards of taxpayers’ dollars.

Nothing beats experience. in any job, there is no better advantage than the ability to recognize and address issues from a client’s perspective.many members of mcKissack’s transportation team previously held leadership roles in major transportation agencies. No matter what challenges face our clients, chances are that our team has found itself on similar roads, bridges, rails or airports before. The extensive experience of our staff provides clients with assurance that the challenges of their projects will be expertly handled. This was abundantly clear during the Atlantic Yards/Barclays Center Development project at NYC’s third busiest transit hub. mcKissack was tapped as the construction manager to relocate the Lirr vanderbilt Yards, demolish and rebuild the Carleton Avenue Bridge, and build a new subway connection to Atlantic Terminal—all without disrupting train and subway operations and service or impacting local neighborhoods and businesses. experiences like this one demonstrate the trust that transit agencies and authorities put in mcKissack to safely deliver complex transportation projects.

Taking the road less traveled is a nice metaphor but, when trying to get from one place to another, an efficient and direct route makes the most sense.People have jobs to get to and lives to lead and, in a fast-paced world, cannot wait around for anything. That’s why mcKissack takes pride in our status as leader in transportation innovation and development.
