With the linger of The Scarlet Letterexcitement still

in the air and the last day of our Young Artist’s Greater Colorado Tour complete, we call the 2015-2016 Season to a close.

It has been a tremendously successful season for Opera

Colorado beginning with the Ellie Caulkins Opera House 10th

Anniversary Celebration, which appropriately celebrated 10 years of artistic excellence in our beautiful home and honored our fi rst lady of opera Ellie Caulkins. The season continued with our fi nely crafted production of Aida featuring the magnifi cent singing of Alexandra Lobianco and closed with the much anticipated world premiere of The Scarlet Letter. Along the way

we presented our series of A Listevents, which introduced hundreds of people to Opera Colorado for the fi rst time, while our Young Artists were in schools and community centers across the state delivering innovative education programsto more than 35,500 students ofall ages.

Before we turn our attention to the 2016-2017 Season, I want to take this opportunity thank you for your patronage and for being part of this extraordinary season. Opera Colorado could not exist without your enthusiasm and passion for opera, and your desire to ensure that Denver has an exciting opera company to enrich our community.

Now, for a change of scene, next season Opera Colorado embarks upon a new adventure – the presentation of new chamber operas in venues outside the Denver Performing Arts Complex. Laura Kaminsky’s thoughtful and evocative As Onewill be the centerpiece of our season of exceptional opera, bookended by Puccini’s rarely performed masterpiece La Fanciulla del West and Donizetti’s perennial favorite Lucia di

Lammermoor both at the Ellie. This summer, we are excited to

offer our season ticket holders and Red Dot Patron donors exclusive pricing and early access to As Onetickets during a special pre-sale in July. Because this opera will be performed in a smaller venue with limited availability, we anticipate a sell-out. On July 11th we will

launch a special three-week pre-sale period for tickets to As One. If you are not already, we invite you to join our family of season ticket holders during this period in order to gain early access to these tickets before they go on sale to the general public on July 31st.

All single tickets will be available for in-person purchases at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House on Patron Day, July 31st. There will be opera singing in the galleria of the Performing Arts Complex all afternoon, free refreshments, and the opportunity for you to be the fi rst to get your single tickets, make exchanges or add some extra tickets for your friends. We hope you can join us as we look forward to our upcoming performances.

The 2016-2017 season promises extraordinary singing, beautiful productions and the opportunity to experience new opera in an intimate setting.

I wish you an enjoyable summer and I look forward to seeing you in the fall as we celebrate our 33rd season of opera in Denver.

See you at the Opera!

La Bohème Conducted by Andrew Litton MASTERWORKS

-Semi-staged production-

OCT 21-23 FRI-SAT 7:30 ■ SUN 1:00Andrew Litton, conductorColorado Symphony Chorus, Duain Wolfe, directorColorado Children’s Chorale, Deborah DeSantis, artistic directorPUCCINI La BohèmeAndrew Litton conducts the Symphony in a staging of a beloved Puccini opera, La Bohème, 120 years after its premiere in Turin, Italy. The heartbreaking story of impassioned, young bohemians in a reimagined contemporary Paris— also adapted into the Broadway smash, Rent— La Bohème tells the timeless tale of love found and lost between Rodolfo and Mimi as they enjoy their youth in the lively Latin Quarter. The Colorado Symphony Chorus and the Colorado Children’s Chorale add another layer to the complexity of this classic story. This concert event follows Andrew Litton’s and the Orchestra’s smashing production of Tosca which was presented during the 2014/15 season.
