Truth is I broke this one in my move, still had a photo. I bought it in an English Antique Mall years ago.

I have a string of these old pedestals salts with lemon squeezer foot, but they are on a high shelf, so please imagine more. Bowls are usually cut with a wafer connecting to a pressed foot.

03-01-201601:55 PM ET (US) Enamel oval pedestal. Don't know much about it except bought it from
Nola and she said it was French. I know they traveled a lot and maybe that's where she bought it. Not marked so difficult to say. I think she said it was one of a pair.

The paint applied to this is called "Clobbering". It was done in the factory to add more color to transferware. I've only seen a few examples of this. I had another - I think it was the same salt but with brown transfer - but I
Page 5 of 31Oval Pedestals - QuickTopic free message board hosting

sold it years ago. At one time I was trying to collect all the different colors of transferware on this same salt but gave up.

Love all three china pedestals, Debi. #21 is especially attractive. I had it in green transfer for a while. Is the enamel over metal?
25
Debi Raitz
03-01-201603:15 PM ET (US)
In pictures 18-20, it's enamel over copper. On the side not shown in my picture there are a couple chips at the base and it's definitely copper.

Nancy, is your #29 Baccarrat? The name is raised letters and number inside the bowl. May have messed up the spelling. Mine is round and fades from deep colored edges to paler pink.
32
Nancy Dietel03-02-201605:47 PM ET (US)
Yes, Nancy V., it is Baccarat. The name didn't come to me when I was posting. I think the color was named "rosetiente" or something similar sounding.

Your #59 has an unusual foot, Jytte. Is is open on the base, like a lemon-squeezer? I've never seen a lobbed shape like that. Love it!
62
Mary Kern
03-08-201607:52 PM ET (US)
Yes Jytte - Marvelous base on that one - Of course I am drooling on all the clear pedestals -- Love them as much as the colored ones - Hey - Maybe more -- Thanks for putting us over the top again --

Jytte, the photos seem to show that the oval salt below has the opening on the base while the round one has a flat base. Is that right? Both are interesting a obviously old designs. Origin is almost impossible to determine on these old pedestals.
68
Jytte03-09-201604:15 PM ET (US)
Thanks Lynda...Nancy - have you tried looking in opensalt.dk on the two item no I wrote? There you'll find photo's of the bottom etcSalt: From Europa??? where I don't know

Nancy V: I think sometimes a little bit gets lost in the translation. On Jytte's own website at www.saltkar.dk, she has different views of the salts she posts here. The two numbers in post #64 are the numbers of her salts you can look up on her website. In case anyone does not know, Jytte's website is linked through her collection page. Look for it at the top of her page. FYI - it does look like that gorgeous pedestal with the lobed base does have a lemon squeezer in the base.

I wonder if this salt is similar to Jytte's #59. It has scallops around the base and a lemon squeezer bottom. The bowl is what I call thin walled. It has molded ribs (dip molded?) that have been notched and between the ribs there are cut swags. This salt is oval, but I have a round salt with a round base same design.
71
Kent Hudson03-10-201601:54 AM ET (US)
Closeup of base in #70.
72
Kent Hudson03-10-201602:03 AM ET (US)
Another thin walled dip molded salt with an unusual base. I also have round salt with square base, same design. The ribs on this salt go about 2/3 of the way up and end in a molded arches between the ribs.
73
Kent Hudson03-10-201602:05 AM ET (US)
Hard to get a picture of the arches between the ribs, #72, but here is a try.
74
Jytte03-10-2016

Thanks for those additional details about Jytte's website, Debi. I had found it but it's easy to overlook that little link on the collection page. I only wish I had the record of my collection as complete as hers.
77
Jytte03-10-201601:35 PM ET (US)
Oh Nancy - it'll only take "a couple" of hours to get a site like mine and then it's very easy when I'm adding pictures here on Debi's site Kent - Thanks for the informations

92
Lynda LaLonde03-14-201612:15 PM ET (US)
Thank you Jane. I kind of wonder if these type oval pedestals are really old?
93
Nancy C Villaverde
03-14-201602:35 PM ET (US)
General answer is that they are all likely a hundred years or more old, Lynda. It seems the lemon squeezer foot is typical of antique ones. Newer pedestals don't seem to have that feature.
94
Susie P03-14-201602:59 PM ET (US)

I think this is silver though not marked. I have seen very similar with same figures as the Putti and Roman head. Glass is wheel Cut.

I am not sure if this HJ 329 as it has opalescent and the points are rounded. It has what looks like a W under the base.

Janelle: Opalescent rims will always be smoother because they were basically melted to make the glass change color. I don't know if they used blow torches or if there was some other method, but it does melt the glass. The opalescent WREATH AND SHELL aka MANILA loses the ribbing or notches on the rim. The clear glass have them but they are almost totally gone on the opalescent ones.I'm not sure without looking it up which company (Maybe Summit?) reproduced the Westmoreland pedestal salt, but I do know some reproductions also had the mark.

Thank you Debi, I bought this one many years ago. Nice to know possible makers. It is a pretty salt , even if a reproduction.
141 136 is gorgeous, Janelle! How long is the Sowerby? I've never gotten one of this type, but I know some are very large.

Very nice, Susie. I like your #131 a lot, too.

Nancy, The Sowerby is not large, the actual bowl is 3 1/2" long, handle to handle edge 4 3/8" and highest point on end is 2 /4"

Thanks, Janelle. I didn't mean this particular pattern, but A Sowerby with swans on it is over 5" long. H&J 139. Now that would hold a lot of salt! About a whole box of Mortons I think.

I just love rescrolling through all the salts, everytime I see a bit that I missed before, a flower here,a different edge there etc. I don't think I have ever seen one that I would not be proud to have in my collection.

I can't really think of a unique topic - one we have not done before. How about if we do Green Salts in April? It's been 4 years since we did it before.

Just got these today - The pictures do NOT do them justice - Under the diamond cutting is a row of round thumb prints - Heavy suckers too -- Yep - I have a couple green salts also -- When I went looking for oval pedestals - I found that most of my pedestals have round bowls -- Maybe we could do round pedestals one month - or did I miss that one --
