SPEAKING THE TRUTH IN LOVE

“Wake up O sleeper, rise from the dead and Christ will shine on you.” (Ephesians 5: 14) God bless you for setting time aside to study with us on this broadcast. It is our hope in the Lord Jesus Christ that you remain blessed in Him.

However, we wish to make it very clear that “Sword and Fire Broadcast”, being the voice of COMBAT MISSION ACADEMY, is not the compromising type. “We do not peddle the Word of God for profit” but are determined in Christ, against all odds, “to speak before God with sincerity, like men sent from God”. (2 Corinthians 2: 17)

“Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the Word of God.

On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God” (2 Corinthians 4: 1, 2).

We are aware that we may step on many toes as we hammer home the truth that liberates, but we shall not be daunted at all. The reason is that we shall “speak the truth in love” and the Bible being our final authority, we won’t “go beyond what is written,” whatever be the situation, time or circumstance. (Ephesians 4: 15; 1 Corinthians 4: 6)

It is time for Blood-bought Christians to wake up and be sure of the ‘God’ they worship and serve and be “READY TO TAKE THE FIELDS WHEN DUTY CALLS. ITS THE SWORD THAT CUTS AND THE FIRE THAT BURNS!

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to “Sword and Fire Broadcast”! Indeed it’s the Sword that cuts and the Fire

that burns.

By the Grace of God, this is an introduction to our series on Sword and Fire Broadcast.

The topic we are considering today is “WHICH GOD DO YOU CALL UPON?”

We are in the very era where the religious, Church goers and even Christians are more

confused than ever before. This generation with all its technological advances; having

even been able to land on the once dreaded moon, is more ignorant of God than all other

generations before it.

In reality, many can’t tell which ‘God’ they are for. They have been so much entangled

by the things their own hands have made that, they’ve lost any sense of the grace of God,

their Creator.

Many more Christians are getting confused when ‘God’ is mentioned because the world

is forcing them to believe that the same ‘God’ is true for all Religions and worshipers. Is

that really true?

The secular definition of God according to Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English

is: The Being Who Christians, Jews and Muslims pray to.”

Does this definition fit into what the Bible says? Is the God of the Bible the same God for

all Religions? Much more shall be made clear as we continue in the subsequent studies.

The objective of our study is not to denigrate any one’s Religion or Cult but rather to

challenge all of us to be sure of the “God” we proclaim. It is a wake-up call to all who

profess some religion and especially to them who profess Christ as their Saviour and

Lord. This is the time to be sure of the God we serve.

Page 4: Outreaching Every Nation, Tribe, language and People · Nevertheless the Bible says, “every one should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger

Our introductory text is taken from Jonah 1: 1-5 reading from the New International Version simply for an easier reading.

1. “The Word of the LORD came to Jonah son of Amittai 2. ‘Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come

up before me.’ 3. But Jonah ran away from the LORD and headed for Tarshish. He went down to

Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the LORD.

4. Then the LORD sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that

the ship threatened to break up. 5. All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the

cargo into the sea to lighten the ship.” Thanks be to God for his Word. Now let’s see what we have as our message. The key verses to start with, are verses 3 and 5

Verse 3 says, “But Jonah ran away from the LORD and headed for Tarshish.” Does this action of Jonah prompt you to sit up to ask yourself whether Prophet Jonah knew quite well the God he claimed to fear and worship? (Jonah 1: 9) Had Jonah forgotten or was he ignorant of the fact that God is Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent? Even though he was a prophet, he allowed desperation and self-justification to let him lose his focus on who his God is. Is that not how you behave when you seem overtaken by events beyond your control?

Remark that even when God spared Nineveh because of their repentance, “Jonah was greatly displeased and became angry.” In his prayer, he pointed out that he knew God would not destroy the people and it was for that reason “he was quick to flee to Tarshish”. (Jonah 4: 1-3) Nevertheless the Bible says, “every one should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires” (James 1: 19, 20). And so did Jonah’s anger not work for God!

Here, the question is, do we honestly know which God we claim to serve? Is the God you serve Sovereign and has the absolute right to change times and seasons as he pleases? (Daniel 2: 20, 21). In Jonah 1: 4, 5, we have a lesson or two to learn. 4. “Then the LORD sent a great wind on the sea and such a violent storm arose that the

ship threatened to break up.

Page 5: Outreaching Every Nation, Tribe, language and People · Nevertheless the Bible says, “every one should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger

5. All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship.”

The verse 4 says, “then the Lord sent a great wind on the sea …” to imply that it was not just a natural cause which could be managed by natural means and experience. It was a deliberate action of God to achieve his purpose.

The professional sailors took up the challenge physically to the best of their knowledge but to no avail. There and then, they could not realize it was a purposeful act of God, which should be tackled by the wisdom of God; for the Bible says in Proverbs 21: 30 that, “There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the LORD.” Throwing the cargo over board failed, for a much better way was required, which was to call upon “the LORD, the God of heaven, who made the Sea and the Land,” and not creatures that inhabit them.

Nonetheless, the striking point is that, when the going became tough, the predominant thought everyone had was to cry out to his own god.

Which God or gods do you call upon when the going becomes tough in life?

Moreover, the Bible says, “Everyone who calls the Name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10: 13). Note here that it didn’t say, “… who calls the Lord but rather, “who calls the Name of the Lord,” that is, a specific Lord must be called for one to be delivered.

Which LORD do you call upon? Do you know which LORD the Bible is talking about in Romans 10: 13?

Shall we turn to 1 Corinthians 8: 4 – 6 (NIV) “…We know that an idol is nothing at all in the world and that there is no God but one. For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many “gods” and many “Lords”) Yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.” A little more attention is needed here. Is the Bible telling us to believe in many gods and many Lords, when it says, “Indeed there are many “gods” and many “Lords”?

Strategically, verse 6 begins with “Yet for us there is but one God, the Father.”

What does the Bible mean by “yet for us”? Who constitute the ‘us’? What the Bible is making clear is that the religions and cults have their own “gods” and “lords” in the heavenly places or on earth but as for those born of the Spirit of God, (John 1: 12, 13) having the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, there is but one God, the Father. (John 17:1 - 3)

This implies True Christianity, not man-made Churchianity, does not recognize any other Lords apart from the Lord Jesus Christ; whatever be the dishonest intellectual twist of the truth others may put up.

Page 6: Outreaching Every Nation, Tribe, language and People · Nevertheless the Bible says, “every one should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger

1 Corinthians 8: 4 - 6 makes the God of the Bible and His worshipers very definite. The ONE GOD THE FATHER AND ONE LORD JESUS CHRIST are inseparable. Honestly, apart from Christianity, which religions and cults believe that there is but one God the Father and One Lord Jesus Christ? If they disagree with the Bible, on this truth, how then do they say that they serve the same God with Christians? Unfortunately, to some, their “God” cannot be called ‘Father’ and it’s even an abomination to say He has a Son.

Which ‘god’ did the sailors call upon? Each sailor called “his own god”. All of them did not call the same ‘God’ but each his own god. Why do you think they called on their own gods in the midst of such a danger? The only gods they knew and trusted, were those they called upon, even though in vain.

Why were they not able to call on the God and Father of Jesus Christ? The Bible says, “How then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? (Romans 10: 14). They knew nothing about the God of the Hebrews and therefore could not call on His Name.

Which name would you call in case the unusual happened to you?

Nowadays, the Name of the Lord Jesus has become only an exclamation, even to many who attend Church regularly.

It is not even a surprise that many who hate Christ and His people would unconsciously cry out “Jesus!” should anything happen suddenly on their way.

The matter is clear: Jesus is truly Lord over all. There are still those who have been taught that Jesus alone is not sufficient for their needs and safety. They pray day and night to call upon the saints to intercede for them yet should any danger befall them, they would cry out “Jesus!” instead of the “saints” they have put their trust in.

God’s people, it’s time to wake up! Which God do you call upon? Well, may be your ‘god’ needs dead saints to help him do what he should do. It is unbelievable that dead saints should be invoked to help those who are truly called by the name of Christ. Moses gave a warning to God’s people, in Deuteronomy 4: 19, 20 which all who are called by the name of Christ should know and heed to.

He said “And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars – all the heavenly array – do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshiping things the Lord Your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven.

But as for you, the LORD took you and brought you out of the iron-smelting furnace, out of Egypt, to be the people of his inheritance, as you now are.”

Despite this warning there are still many who call themselves Christians and yet make their followers call on the Queen of heaven. Apart from these, there are those who spend their

Page 7: Outreaching Every Nation, Tribe, language and People · Nevertheless the Bible says, “every one should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger

day and night to worship the heavenly array, the sun, the moon, the stars, but especially the moon god. THIS IS THE TIME TO WAKE UP O SLEEPER!

Are you among those who are still saying “they too are worshiping their God”? Well, if you say, “their god”, you are absolutely right, but one thing is sure; their god is not the Christian God, that is, not the God of the Bible, for it is He who has ardently warned against these practices, and would not change his mind to appreciate those who defy his commands.

The Bible says, “In the past, God overlooked such ignorance but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead.” (Acts 17: 30)

Here we are! The time of blatant compromises is over. God would not pardon or overlook such acts any more, for its no longer ignorance but a conscious rebellion against God. Coming back to Jonah the prophet of Gath, we see that when he was sobered by God, the sailors were greatly influenced by the Omnipotence of his God and they voluntarily sacrificed in worship to Him. (Jonah 1: 16)

Are the people around you able to easily identify the God you worship and call upon?

The commonest name one would hear in the homes, work places, public places and in fact everywhere some worship is going on, is “God”

Does this guarantee that all worshippers believe in one and the same God? Does the fact that two or more groups mention or use terms like God, Creator, Good God or merciful God, imply that they are talking about the same Being? Should we say that because I resemble someone’s father and fit into all the descriptions about him, I am obligatorily the person’s father? This is what is happening in the Religions of men who think when appellations and attributes are similar, they would be referring to the one and the same Being called God. This introductory study is particularly coming to awaken compromising Christians from their slumber in order to seek more diligently the God they profess, even the God of the Bible, the God who identifies Himself as “the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob”, and who proclaims that He has a Son. Dear worshiper, remember the Bible says, “Yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.” Are you now definitely aware of the LORD God you claim to worship and call upon?

Page 8: Outreaching Every Nation, Tribe, language and People · Nevertheless the Bible says, “every one should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger

Are you sure that the God you call upon, is truly the Father from whom all things came and for whom we live; whose Son is the One Lord Jesus Christ through whom all things came and through whom we live? Continue with us so that we discover the truth of God together and be made free to serve in spirit and in truth. God bless you.

JESUS EVER PRESENT TO SAVE

REPENTANCE PRAYER

Lord Jesus Christ, I believe that you are the Son of God. You are the Messiah come in the

flesh to destroy the works of the devil. You are the Way and the Truth and the Life; no

one comes to God the Father except through you.

I now confess and repent of all my sins and beg you to forgive me. Please cleanse me

from all unrighteousness and deceptions. I accept and confess you as my personal Lord

and Saviour.

For you died on the cross for my sins and rose again from the dead. I believe that your

blood cleanses me now from all sins.

Thank you for redeeming me, cleansing me, justifying me and sanctifying me by your

precious blood. Amen.

GROWING IN CHRIST

Now that you have given your life to Christ, you have become a member of His body. You

need to “grow up into Him, who is the Head, that is, Christ.”

From Him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament grows

and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work”. (Eph. 4: 16)

Please you may write to us for other Christian growth materials. God keep you and bless

you!
