AdVenture Summer CampThis fun day-camp is for participants with disabilities age 14-21. Activities will include field trips, art projects, swimming and other great programs! The staff to participant ratio will be 1:5 and all participants must be independent in self-care needs, capable of staying with the group and without severe behavioral issues. Participants will work on money management and will need to bring approximately $10 per week for field trips. A detailed schedule with daily activity costs will be sent to participants. Participants MUST register one week prior to their start date. Time: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Location: Grace Jordan Community Center, 6411 W. Fairfield Ave.Cost: $72.00/week (scholarships are available)

Mountain Home Air Base TourWe will have the rare opportunity to learn about the aircrafts that fly in the military, inspect fighter planes and talk with the people that serve on the Base. The cost includes lunch at the cafeteria on Base, the tour and transportation from Fort Boise Community Center. Registration closes on May 4; refunds are not available after this date. The Air Force will do a background check on all participants prior to the trip so we will call you to collect your identification and social security information prior to the trip. Social ClubsThese clubs are ideal social opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities. Outings include bowling, dinner and a movie, sporting events and more! The staff to participant ratio will be 1:5. Members of the club will have the opportunity to work on money management and will need to bring $2-$7 for each outing to cover activity costs. Sun Valley Adaptive Cycling TripJoin us for a day trip to the scenic Sun Valley area for an adaptive bike ride. We will drive to the Sun Valley area, have a picinic lunch and then ride approximately 12 miles along the paved Wood River Trail. Participants are welcome to bring their own bike or reserve one of AdVenture’s adaptive cycles by calling Sonya at 208-608-7681. This fun adventure is designed for individuals who can ride at least 12 miles in 2.5 hours, stay with the group and follow directions. Participants will need to bring money for dinner on the drive home. Adaptive Swimming Lessons Adaptive swimming lessons are offered to participants with disabilities who want to develop swimming skills and water safety awareness. Two instructors and a lifeguard are on duty at all times. Previous experience is not necessary. Lessons will be under close supervision by the teachers, but will not be 1:1. Tent Camping at Payette LakeRelaxed campers are invited to join us at beautiful Payette Lake for an outdoor vacation. Activity level is moderate; we will take short hikes in the nearby wilderness. All campers must be able to get in and out of a tent independently and enjoy being in the great outdoors. You will experience lakeside tent camping, games, campfire cooking and relaxing in a gorgeous location. Adaptive Tubing WednesdaysEnjoy the hot summer weather at Lucky Peak while riding behind a boat on an inflatable tube. For safety reasons participants must be able to independently roll in the water from a face-down position to their back while wearing a life jacket; demonstration of this ability may be requested prior to tubing. Participants will take turns tubing and may be on the boat for up to an hour. This activity meets at Barclay Bay at Lucky Peak Reservoir. By volunteer request, this program is for individuals with disabilities. Whitewater RaftingOur adapted rafting program provides the opportunity for individuals with disabilities and one guest to take part in a whitewater rafting adventure. For safety reasons, ALL participants must be able to independently roll in the water from a face-down position to their back while wearing a life jacket and have the ability to grasp. Demonstration of this ability may be requested prior to the trip. Participants will get the full rafting experience and may be asked to help with some of the work such as loading equipment. All rafting trips are led by Boise Parks & Recreation’s Adaptive Recreation Coordinator and include volunteer support, rafting equipment, lunch and transportation from Fort Boise Community Center to the river and back. The float time is usually 2-3 hours on class II-III rapids. Return times may vary due to river conditions and trip accommodations. This program is designed for individuals with disabilities who may also sign-up one care provider/family member/friend who does not have a disability. So that everyone has a chance to go rafting please do not enroll in more than 4 rafting trips (after June 30, if there are still openings, you are welcome to enroll in additional trips). This activity is for participants age 12 and older but youth ages 12-17 must be accompanied by an enrolled adult.

This popular tournament will take place Friday, August 25 at Warm Springs Golf Course. The tournament starts at 6 p.m. and is a four-person scramble, limited to 15 teams. Participants will play nine holes of golf and then break for dinner. After dinner, everyone may golf 4-5 holes with glow-in-the-dark golf equipment! The cost is $68 per person, which includes green fees, cart for the first nine holes, night equipment, and dinner. A silent auction will be held during the tournament with proceeds going towards Boise Parks & Recreation’s AdVenture program. PROGRAMS FOR PEOPLE WITH MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS Individuals with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) are welcome to sign up for any programs mentioned in this Newsletter. However, following programs are designed specifically for individuals who have Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and their friends and family.
MS Walking ClubJoin us for a guided, hour long walk at a different park each week. Summer Wheelchair Rugby LeagueAdVenture and the Boise Bombers Wheelchair Rugby Team invite you to play Wheelchair Rugby in a league format. Two weeks will be for practice and learning how to play and for six weeks teams will scrimmage playing at least one game per night. All skill levels are welcome; you do not need to use a wheelchair to play, rugby wheelchairs are provided. Idaho Youth Adaptive Sports CampThis year marks the 30th anniversary of the Idaho Youth Adaptive Sports Camp! This camp provides youth with physical disabilities a memorable sports camp experience. Individuals ages 6-19 who use a wheelchair or an assisted device (walker, crutches, AFO braces, etc.) for mobility have the opportunity to try adaptive sports, develop skills and improve their fitness level. Participants will get to enjoy a variety of athletic and recreational activities. *Registration closes June 1; after May 20 the fee goes up to $80. Wilderness Within Reach Fly-In for VeteransThis rare opportunity is for Veterans who have a physical disability that affects their mobility (those who use a wheelchair, walker, AFO braces, etc.) and one friend/family member. We will fly in small aircrafts into the Frank Church Wilderness and spend two nights at the remote Sulphur Creek Ranch. Our cabins are very accommodating but are not completely ADA accessible and the small planes cannot accommodate power wheelchairs (call 208-608-7681 for specifics). Many thanks to Sulphur Creek Ranch, the Idaho Aviation Foundation and the pilots for making this unique experience possible. At the request of the pilots, priority is given to Veterans with physical disabilities who have not previously gone on a Wilderness Within Reach Fly-In trip. Each individual needs to enroll and pay the trip fee. The annual wheelchair basketball tournament fundraiser, ChairHoops was a great success! Sixteen teams competed in the three-day tournament from March 23-25. Players also helped raise funds for AdVenture by collecting pledges and bidding on silent auction prizes donated by many local sponsors. The tournament raised over $3,300 for AdVenture! Thank you to everyone who participated, collected pledges, donated and volunteered at this fun event!
