Dear Friends of Outdoors for All,

Thank you for your attendance tonight at our WHITEOUT Ski Ball Gala - we’re pleased that you could join us!

It’s been an extraordinary year for Outdoors for All and the thousands of children and adults with disabilities whose lives we’re dedicating to enriching through outdoor recreation. As a nonprofit, we strive to be “mission driven, yet business minded”.

This focus on the mission side of our dual bottom line is one reason we set another record for numbers of children and adults with disabilities active in our recreation programs: over 2,500 individuals!

Thanks to donors like you and our focus on the business side of our operations, we ended our most recent fiscal year again in the black. We’re reinvesting that surplus in our mission. Now, with your further support tonight, we hope to start our new fiscal year off right and keep growing.

Tonight you’ll hear from participant Kayla Wheeler who first started skiing with us many years ago and now is a Paralympian Swimmer. You’ll hear a testimonial from Brian Neville and Kate Orville, parents of Participant Liam Neville, and how Liam’s life has been enriched by being active in our summer day camps.

We know that you’ll be inspired by Kayla’s and Liam’s amazing achievements. We also know that their achievements are supported thanks to the dedication of over 700 volunteers and our intrepid staff team. Together, they make our mission possible: to enrich the quality of life for children and adults with disabilities through outdoor recreation.

And, you’ll hear tonight about one of those dedicated volunteers, our Honoree RB Brown. For decades, RB has done it all – serving on our Board of Directors, instructing during the winter season with the Skihawks Racing Team, teaching off-snow activities like adaptive cycling, two wheel biking and so much more. RB is simply the best of the best!

Volunteers and donors are crucial to Outdoors for All, helping in so many ways throughout the year to support our mission. They assist us by teaching lessons, they procure auction items, they work on task forces, committees and on our board, they repair and maintain bikes and skis (and a lot of other gear) -- and they do so much more!

Donors like you are also vital for Outdoors for All. You make donations, “raise the paddle” at the gala (don’t forget those matching donations from your employer), gather teams to ski and snowboard in our annual SPREEFEST at Alpental (coming up on Saturday, March 11, 2017) and make workplace giving directed donations through United Way, too.

So, thank you again for your attendance tonight. And of course, thank you for your support for Outdoors for All’s mission. Come see your support in action first hand by joining us out on the snow trails, cycling paths and water ways!

Sincerely,

Keith Dolliver, Board [email protected]

Almost Live“My experiences allowed me to witness kids accomplishing huge victories. For the ultimate goal wasn’t about teaching the children to ride, it was watching the children transform through acquiring skills and overcoming their fears. Each step they make is such a huge victory, you can’t help but be touched. I can’t describe how it changed my life and grew my heart watching these children acquire not just new skills, but watch their esteem grow with each accomplishment. Sharing these moments forever changed me and bonded me with these children.” - Greg Barich, Outdoors for All Volunteer (pictured center, with 5-year old Caleb ) ,

Dessert First! It’s As Easy as 1, 2, 3, 4

If you are the highest bidding table, you get the prime position of choosing any dessert you want! Here’s all you have to do:

1. Check out the scrumptious delicacies and assorted confections showcased at the dessert tables located in the back of the ballroom!

2. Gather your table-mates and place your bids on the dessert auction sheet located at your table along with the name of the person that will race to pick your desired dessert. Your combined bids will determine the order of how the desserts are chosen. The sheets are tallied and then with the highest table bid going first, each table gets to choose from the available desserts. Before the live auction begins, our table hosts will be coming around to collect the bid sheet. Minimum bid per table is $25.

Hint 1: Bid high to ensure your table receives the dessert of your choice. Hint 2: Be ready with your top three choices.

3. After all the dessert bid sheets are tallied, our lovely Dessert Hosts will come to each table starting with the highest bidder (see Hint 1). When it’s your turn, you’ll have only as much time as it takes the bidding table behind you to pick out theirs.

4. After item #16, Raise Your Paddle, desserts will be delivered to your table.

Volunteerof the Year

Congratulations Anne Wiegersma! The Outdoors for All staff and board of directors are pleased to recognize this year’s Volunteer of the Year: Anne Wiegersma!

Anne started volunteering at Outdoors for All in the fall of 2015 and immediately had a huge impact on the organization’s entire operations. He spends at least 15 hours a week volunteering in the administrative offices addressing database and IT issues. He ensures that the databases are running properly, finds solutions to database and IT problems, and researches and implements more efficient and effective ways of operating and communicating -- all of which provide a positive user experience for our volunteers and participants. Thank you, Anne, for all of your time, and for sharing your talents with Outdoors for All!

“Anne chose to make a tangible, meaningful difference by coming in three days a week, every week to tackle some of our most challenging issues ... Anne has done such more for Outdoors for All. We would be lost without him.” -Nicole Prater, Associate Executive Director

Tonight’sSpeaker

Welcome to the Neville/Orville Family! Remember your summers spent at camp as a kid? The lasting friendships you made and the new activities you were able to try and participate in? For hundreds of children and youth with disabilities, including Liam Neville, Outdoors for All Day Camps provide the opportunities to make these lasting memories.

At nine months old, Liam was diagnosed with seizures and received extra supports in school for language delays and a mild intellectual disability. When Liam started attending Outdoors for All Day Camps at the age of nine, he was shy and hesitant to try new activities, especially those involving water and boats. His parents, Brian and Kate, were shocked when he came home from camp one day and shared that he learned how to kayak and loved it.

Thanks to the support of counselors, volunteers, and his camp friends, Liam has blossomed into a leader. This past summer, at the age of 18, he served as a role model for our other campers and supported counselors in leading activities. As a member of the Day Camp community, Liam has created a social network for himself including great friends, such as Michael, Joseph, and Jack, and his girlfriend of a year, Helen.
