STEP 1: Media Format Selection

Select a media format in which you will create your production plan and ultimately your final production. Be aware that this production plan will be the final production that they create in unit 4, and you can not create a project in unit 4 that differs from your production plan.

The media production design plan demonstrates how students will apply knowledge and maintain creative control of the technical processes they plan for their media production.

Group production work and group media production design plans are not appropriate for this outcome. The options include:

• a video or film sequence 3–10 minutes in length, including title and credit sequences

• a radio or audio production of a minimum of 8 minutes in length, including title and credit sequences

• an animated production of no more than 10 minutes in length, including title and credit sequences

• a photographic presentation, sequence or series of images that incorporates a minimum of 10 original source images that must be processed and printed by the student

• print production of a minimum of 8 pages or layouts printed by the student

• a digital and/or online production that demonstrates comparable complexity and provides user accessibility consistent with other media forms listed

• a convergent media production that incorporates aspects of a range of media forms and is consistent with product durations and/or descriptors listed.

YOU MUST STAY WITHIN THE SCOPE OF YOUR MEDIA PROJECT.

STEP 2: Brainstorming

Create a brainstorming mind map to elaborate on their ideas. You can create this using traditional methods or a digital format. Examples:

STEP 3: Audience

3.1 Answer the following questions: Who is my audience or audiences? What do my audience demographics include? What are my audience interests, experience and expectations of media works in this form? How will my audience be engaged by my production? 3.2 Create an Audience Profile Examples:

STEP 4: Intention

All media productions are designed for engagement and impact, they are designed to change the audience in some way. Now that you have an audience, how do you want to change them? What do you want the impact of your production on your audience to be? Here are some possibilities: · Educate · Entertain · Shock · Make laugh · Reduce to tears · Outrage · Provide a moment of peace · Encourage a particular behaviour or thought process · Persuade · Please What structural features and symbolic codes and conventions will you use to create the engagement with the text you intend? What techniques you will employ to engage your audience and achieve this intention? STEP 5: Annotated inspiration and referencing

In your work for Outcome 2 you collected and examples of media techniques that you found engaging or that you might use in your production. Now is the time to edit and curate these references into a focussed analysis of how they inform your production design. The aim here is quality not quantity. Each reference should be carefully annotated to explain why it has been included and how you might use the idea or technique to inform your production. You must include the title, author, year and a link to where you sourced the inspiration for each image.
